The word Prius traditionally would make most people think of a boring, slow, but fuel efficient car. With the latest generation however, Toyota has completely changed that. Follow along this week as we detail everything new about the latest generation Toyota Prius.

People treat the road like a race track, so naturally power and 0-60 are priorities for them. In a truly civilized society, those factors should not matter beyond the basics.

I agree! I am not interested in these YT vids where they're like 'I usually drive only sports cars and race on the freeway, but did you guys know the Prius is actually a good car?! 😮' It's like yeah we know that Captain Obvious 🥴. I own the '17 Prius. Before this I has that '12 Prius C. I drive a Prius because it's the best value for my money, not because it can race others on the road. I've also never had an issue speeding up or blocking cars from illegally cutting me off (to their surprise and wallet's demise).

That’s interesting. I agree, but they also seem surprised that with it’s sporty design the entry point is lower and the cabin roof is lower I’ve driven a couple of sports cars. I was disappointed that this version was not as roomy as previous Prius, but I’ll gladly trade that for this sexy new silhouette.

OMG, you don’t want 19” wheels on that car, you WANT 17” wheels for better cushioning against potholes and what not. I can’t stand when any vehicle’s best trims increase the wheel size, but it’s even worse for a Prius.

I have a 2008 Prius with 204,000 miles on it. I paid $7500 for it in 2015. I can’t see paying the huge mark ups on this. I was given a price of $48,000 out the door about 7 months ago. What an insult.

Seesh that's insane!! I have a '17 Prius, and although the body on the new Prius Prime is gorgeous, it's much smaller and the fuel economy doesn't inspire current Prius owners to upgrade given all of these dealership markups. I honestly appreciate my '17 more, as if it were brand new 😅

@@NovaPrincess I just wanted to update you. I bought my new 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE on January 25, 2024. So far there have been zero problems. I can’t say enough about it. I get an average of 55-57 MPG city driving. Sometimes I get as high as 63 MPG depending on the grade etc. I paid $25,000 total cash out the door and then got $1398 for my trade making the deal $23,602. I went through ten dealerships haggling and five months but finally got the price I wanted. It came with a free lifetime power train warranty at Toyota of Denton. My sales manager was awesome. His name is Alex.

@@NovaPrincess I definitely think the Corolla is best because of the cost. I looked at the current sell value or ask online for a used 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE like mine and the ask is between $25,000-$26,900. Where as the new Prius is way more expensive and marked up. I think for most the Corolla is more user friendly too especially on the pocket book.

@@NovaPrincess My favorite feature is the gas mileage. My old Prius barely managed 35MPG-40MPG. The Corolla gets 55-57. I am noticing though as the Texas weather is warming up the needed AC lowers the MPG to 53-55. When it’s 100 degrees I hope it’s still at least 51-53. If you buy a new car remember to change the oil at 500 miles then 1000 miles then every 5,000 miles. This advice came from a Toyota Master Mechanic with over 30 years experience. Engine break in with those two oil changes add life to all engines. Manufacturers won’t tell the public that.

I’m a class A commercial truck driver ( Tractor Trailer) . Everybody hates truck drivers! Truck drivers hate Prius Drivers…lol. This new Prius has converted me. I’ve been a 4cylinder turbo car driver for 15 years. I’ve owned two Saabs, a Subaru WRX, and now a Volkswagen Golf GTI. I just recently started car shopping via the internet and this thing caught my eye. I couldn’t believe this was a Prius! I swore I’d never buy a Prius. Now I’m actually excited to get mine. Hopefully by the end of April. I’m not expecting similar performance to the turbos I’ve owned. I am however thinking it’s not a huge drop off. Then you consider its fuel efficiency, and I’m just like wow. I mean seriously? This car is just as quick as a Honda Civic SI, and gets double the fuel economy, and is available in AWD! I saw them in person for the first time this past Monday. It really is a cool looking compact. So yeah, another hater won over by Toyota. In my opinion, they hit a home run on this generation. I’m not racing, tracking, or modifying this thing. But I’ll be able to get around campers on my twisty Mountain Roads when it’s safe to do so! Great video, and great review! Thanks!

Prius was never "dog slow". Especially accelerating from a stop. BTW, my 2019 Prius XLE gets 56.6 mpg overall, 58.6 in the (mild) winter. I got the car in January 2020. Given being retired, the CVD lockdown, a full tank of gas from dealer, and discounted Kroger gasoline, the $142 vehicle registration ($100 surcharge just for hybrids) cost me more than gasoline the first year. Completely eliminated the benefits of the hybrid that year (cheaper non-hybrid Corolla would have cost the same to operate with cheaper up front cost). Skrew you, Ohio Governor DeWine.

2022 Toyota Prius owner here - I can fit an entire 26" wheel size bike inside my car. I just have to push the passenger seat up a few inches. No need to take off a wheel. Here is a tip. I noticed that you put the bike with the drive side (chain and derailleur) down inside the car. You should have flipped the bike over so that faced up. 1.) putting those down increases the risk of damaging your bike's gears 2) You also risk damage to the car's interior by getting grease/oil on the car's interior from the drive side of the bike.

Diameter of the wheels of a bicycle is not the most important to determine if it's fit in the trunk. Size of the frame matter : 58cm & more ( L , XL ...XXL ), there the difficulty begins. But anyway keep your gen '16-'22 .The new one at a poorly designed opening in relation to the total width of the rear.

I am 6 feet tall and she is 5 foot 4". I also disagree about the difficulty getting in and out of the car. Neither of us find it to be problematic. Also, the only way to test drive this here in San Diego County is to pre-order one, and drive it when it arrives. And I do not believe you can get one here for sticker price either. The problems are it is lower than what I like to see out of but once you get used to it it isn’t a problem. The one thing is people passing you on the right or the left really blind you with their headlights. Of course I imagine it’s the same with a Lamborghini. I turn my mirrors way down and that helps and I can still tell when someone is there. During warm weather my wife drives 30 miles round trip in all speed ranges and gets around 61 mpg. In my 2004 Prius the steering wheel sits relatively low and is not adjustable. The gauge cluster on that model is towards the bottom of the window so it works like a HUD. The guage cluster on the new one does the same thing. You position the wheel lower to see the cluster over the top of the wheel. Just lower the steering wheel. The audio button is there for the passenger. The driver has the steering wheel control. I'm 5'-11" and have no problem with seeing all the gauge cluster or with the rear seat headroom. @@David_Journey Yes, the steering wheel depth is adjustable (~4"-5" push/pull). I really don't get the dissing review of the new Prius cluster position in many review channels other than their own old preference or resistance to this new change. To optimize viewability of HUD/gauge cluster, you can lower steering wheel all the way down and push it all the way in (as object closer to your face will appear larger in size, so do the opposite). For people who have short height, you could also raise/tilt up the driver seat for clearer view of the road and cluster (assume if you are 6'2" or lower that extra headroom is available). I really dig the new design/position of this new cluster a lot more than centered cluster of the old Prius which for me makes no sense.

Great review. I would go for the option of solar panels which has been estimated to get 3-4 miles per day (not much, but that is 1000 FREE miles per year). This adds up if you do not drive much or do no drive every day. The solar panel will generate electricity when I'm sitting in traffic (at least I get something when stuck in a commute).

I once moved 1500 miles with all my possessions in the back of my 2008 Prius, including a large computer, desk chair, two suitcases of clothing, and a bunch of other stuff. I once slept in the back of my 2008. I feel like in trying to appeal to Prius Haters, they sacrificed a lot of things that Prius fans have loved, like cargo space, visibility, and practicality. I hope the 2024 or 2025 models fix some of the issues with this generation, like the gage cluster, otherwise my next car will probably be a 2022 Prius Prime

I have been a Prius owner since 2004 when we bought our 2004 model. Then again in 2010, 2016 and now 2023. All silver cars. The 2016 car was great never a problem and a constant 62-64 MPG. With only 40K on the clock it was time to change. I ordered a silver XLE in late April and took delivery on the XLE in mid-June. I'm 6-2 and yes getting in is tricky but I'm used to it now. Getting it all programmed was tricky as well. Once Getting only ONE FOB for the car was a shocker and made me feel uncomfortable. They said I "should" get a key before Christmas. When I got it home, I noticed what I thought was a strange LOUD noise from the front end. I stopped by our son's house to show the car and asked about the noise. Yes, it was LOUD and coming from the front of the car. My son KZbind the problem and found it is supposed to be there. NO ONE tells you about this "feature". Needless to say, I fixed the "problem". The back storage is much less than my 2016 and getting in and out is way below what my 2016 was. I've got a little over 2k on the clock and the MPG has gone up to 53-55 MPG so it is getting broken in. The car is much quieter than the 2016 and more features than the others. Today I found a locksmith that was able to get me a programed FOB as a spare for $425. Think of it, you lose or damage your FOB, you are stock with a car that you cannot drive. My XLE model has the smaller screen with the volume knob on the left where it should be. I'm getting used to the CarPlay and you have to have a cell phone to male everything work. But the GPD will always be up to date. All in all, I give this model an "okay". Prius@solarbright.com

I went online and saw how to fix it. I took the speaker out that is in the front left side under a shroud that comes off. I went to Amazon and ordered the 3-pound molding clay. I wrapped the speaker in Saran Wrap and then applied about 1/2 inch of the clay around the speaker and then wrapped the entire speaker with heavy duty black duct tape. It makes a huge difference.

No the speaker was not loose. The speaker is the PROBLEM and to lessen the noise you need to do as I posted. You cannot just remove the problem speaker as an error will pop up on the screen. The noise is VERY loud when backing up and half the noise when going forward until you hit 19 MPH. They "claim" all EV's and HEVs have this but I have not heard the noise on any Teslas. So go figure.....

I just finished my 35th move, which was roughly 43 miles 1 way, and used my '23 Prius for everything except the larger furniture that wouldn't break down enough to fit. If I had a roof rack, I would've used that (keeping the weight limits in mind, however) because I hate being that friend that asks to use another friend's truck. Using one of my best traits, spatial reasoning, I stuffed this car, and took several trips. The mpg alone saved me $$ as opposed to renting a truck, but I still missed my old '94 Toyota pickup. With that said, had I known that I was going to need to move, I wouldn't have bought this car. It's not very comfortable for trips longer than an hour. The infotainment system messes up a lot. Weird things happen, like I use the seat heaters all the time (upstate NY), and their setting stayed ON until next time I started the car. This was great! Well, now sometimes they're OFF when I start the car.. like yesterday, it was OFF every stinkin time SMH. Same thing happened with the air recirc... I always have it set to recirc the air in the cabin, mainly because I hate smelling the exhaust of the vehicles in front of me.. it worsens my headaches. Lately it's switched itself to pull in fresh air, but not every time. It's friggin frustrating. Idk man, I love working on cars, and still have my mr2 turbo that I bought in 2000... but now I'm a single dad and I don't have time. I just need s##t to work hahaa!

I'm loving mine so far. On the downside, less storage than the 2012, and touch unlock only works on the driver side now (though it now has an app and still has the key fob ... which incidentally you get 1 not 2 initially and supposedly you get sent a 2nd... we'll see). That's annoying, but it drives great and I'm really getting used to the superb iPhone integration and safety features (like blind spot warning). And I averaged 52mpg on my first tank. I have to squeeze in (as you do) but I guess I'm the right height because I can drive comfortably and see the instrument cluster.

Touch to unlock actually works on both driver and passenger side. You can change the settings on touch to unlock in the setting menu of Toyota infotainment suite system (on 12inches touchscreen, not in the driver’s HUD/Info screen) to unlock doors on both sides when you double tap the door handle. I really don’t understand why they did the default setup to unlock only driver side…😑 out of the factory.

Point on build quality is well taken. The current Corolla feels a bit insubstantial and although well protected from engine noise and equipped with pretty good ride quality suffers really seriously from road noise to the point that it's only really restful to drive on well laid asphalt in good shape. We are long time Prius owners and are well aware of the great advantages of the older cars as well as their significant disadvantages! Certainly on the surface the new Prius is absolutely gorgeous and in my opinion one of the very best looking cars on the road, period. However one of the most amazing things about the Prius has always been packaging. Even on our 2008 Gen 2, the back hatch area is cavernous, the back seat is spacious. The outward visibility is fantastic and it's just super easy to drive like a little go-kart. Now I perfectly agree with people who think that that old car is slow and homely. True. All is not wine and roses with the new one however, they made a lot of compromises to get that sleek look. The trunk getting smaller the rear seat certainly smaller, the front seat as you say with the low headroom and the doorway. Personally I would rather have 60 or 70 miles per gallon instead of 200 hp. But the worst thing is the company Toyota. They are not building remotely enough of these cars, they're very hard to find on the lot for test drive, Toyota has become an order-and-wait company pretty much. And the dealer markups and real world end prices are out of hand. The attitude of Toyota the company and the dealers is that they are a super premium brand and that people will basically jump through any hoops they need to in order to get a Toyota. I mean hello it's Toyota not Ferrari. Also the hybrid thing was great technology 20 years ago. Get up over 100,000 miles like we have on our Prius and you start to see all the complexity and all the things that can go wrong with these systems. We have found that they are not as reliable as their reputation. We ended up getting a VW ID.4. Second choice was Tesla. I mean it's 2024 and they still don't have an all-electric Prius. I just don't understand it.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Toyota seems to be getting a bit arrogant these days. They are trying to create scarcity for the new Prius to somehow increase demand, but it seems to be a self defeating strategy. After more than a year since the initial release, I have seen only 2 of these cars on the road. Over the same time, I’ve seen hundreds of Teslas and many are brand new too. Now I think I know why. Compare the price of a Tesla Model 3 with the new Prius Prime (dealer markup included) and they are about the same. The huge dealer markup, lack of availability and a competitive alternative in the Model 3 seem to be stunting Prius sales significantly. The scarcity strategy seems to be backfiring.

Hey, I am still a bit of a hater. My 2021 Toyota Prius Prime and Hybrid are wonderful! Sure, the new one is nice but.... With my old ones, I beat people off of the red traffic light EVERY time! See, I know how to drive them. The new one is faster but do you know how to drive it? The new Prius is lower, making it hard to get in and out of (front and back). It doesn't have a heads-up display anymore. The steering wheel gets in the way of the speedometer display. Also, trying to buy any Prius in many states is like trying to buy a unicorn with a golden horn!

My main complaint is that they put the 19” wheels on the top trim, which compromise the MPG and ride smoothness. I don’t want to have to choose between highest-available tech and best-possible MPG; if I pay that much money, I want both! Truthfully, I’m not clear why people, apparently, find rubber-band-thin tires visually attractive. I personally want to see more tire and less wheel!

All they had to do with the outgoing 4th generation Prius was drop the new powertrain in it, and give all Priuses, not just the Prime, the Lexus-style front end treatment of the Prime instead of the Batmobile look of the hybrid Prius. But with this version they've seriously impaired the headroom.....in a way that actually increases aerodynamic drag (this is one area where the reviewer is mistaken)....and they've made the tailgate just tiny and the trunk overall too narrow. Tesla with the Model Y didn't get hung up on this low, narrow roof line -- it's a notably high roofline, like the old Prius -- and it's still more aerodynamic than any Prius.
