In braver days, when society actually made known its determination to protect its innocents by the means of condgn punishment,. this type of violent murder would have seen the judge don a black cap and pronounce the sentence prescribed by law. No parole should be the least of any such sentence today. .

@1972hermanoben
@1972hermanoben 8 ай бұрын
Ah, pre 1964, when the country had never had it so good. Didn’t actually deter people from committing murder though, did it? Would you have been ‘brave’ enough to pull the lever on a hangman’s trapdoor yourself? Would you step up and do the job now? Innocent lives have been lost to miscarriages of justice too, don’t forget. Government statistics suggest that one fifth to a quarter of violent criminals go on to reoffend, so I can see where people’s frustration and concern comes from. Ever spent time in prison? No, nor I - it sounds like a hellish place to be. If this pair can develop and change over the course of ten years into a pair of cold-blooded murderers, I believe in turn that a lot can change in twenty years, or even half that. For either of the pair to reoffend would mean a certain return to prison and a longer stretch inside, possibly a whole life order. There’s a 75% chance that this first taste of prison punishment will deter them from reoffending. If the simple deterrent of returning to prison isn’t sufficient, it’s possible that expert guidance and the opportunity to examine how their lives have taken a wrong turn might equip them with what their life experiences as children has failed to provide. Their families appear to be heartbroken over their children’s unspeakable actions. I’m sure they never once imagined their troubled kids would do anything so monstrous. Executing Brianna’s killers won’t bring her back nor bring any peace, closure or comfort to her loved ones. The death penalty is proven not to be an effective deterrent to other would-be killers, whereas imprisonment has a 75% ‘success’ rate in terms of preventing lives gone bad from getting worse. Those young people, whose upbringing obviously failed them, will never be able to undo the harm they have caused, but the odds are that in the end their lives may not have been completely wasted. If there’s a chance of salvaging one or both of them rather than seeing a second and a third young life cut short, it sounds like the sort of outcome that Brianna might have preferred. I was eight years old when a brother a year my junior was killed. I was there at the time and saw enough to have had my recollection of events taken down by police, along with drawings I had sketched that illustrated what I’d seen. Rupert would have been fifty this year. His death was an accident, but the woman who knocked him down in her car might as well have been given a death sentence: her life effectively ended too that day. Our family life was never the same, nor was hers. Took a lot of bravery all round for everyone to keep going. At sixteen there’s a chance of redemption and rehabilitation. These killers’ lives as they knew them are already over. Justice is being served. Let their punishment begin. It’ll be many years before those young people are free again, by which time they will have been completely changed by the experience, one way or another.

That is so not the case. I spent years on a lifer wing. Most of the murderers I was with were quite unassuming people who'd never committed another crime in their life. They just snapped, often in a moment of infidelity., and are incredibly remorseful. Obviously this is not a reflection of all killers but definitely was a large proportion. In my opinion they are some of the least likely people to reoffend and statistics prove this.

A degree of wickedness that cannot be comprehended by ordinary people! If justified, I dearly wish the backgrounds of such people was publicised; if parental accountability is justified, then let it be so. How could 15 year olds even conceive of such vicious and calculated cruelty? The terrible case of young Jamie Bulger comes very much to mind and those young boys were appreciably younger. A heck of a lot of people are keeping their thoughts to themselves over this. The bad acts n motives of these two individuals are disgusting and atrocious. Evil is real and in kids this young can run out of control, coz of lack of developed character. But after what is happening across the western developed world it looks like bad intent is relative to whos doing it. ---( US politics).
