Thanks for getting this together Brian! I am all about sharing this hobby with people that I know enjoy it as much as I do!! Its obvious in of your reviews that you love this hobby!! It shows!! So a couple things. The tape is nothing special. But I use it because its easy to tear. Its perferated and no need to unravel. It holds really well but you can just tear it to get it apart. Also the black ziptie is to get the burner positioned properly so that you can glue it in place. I use thick CA on all of mine. Once in place you can clip off the zip tie. Also the burner is a good indicator of the battery condition! Once your battery is low the burner wont come on. Later in the video you saw that it was barely coming on and thats why. Also the best thing to use to get the light not to bleed and also reflect more light, just use white paint on the inside. Its the best all around color. Thanks for posting the video and feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

The tailhooks on Air Force aircraft, including the F-15, F-16, F-117 and F-22, serve two purposes, assisting in emergency landing situations and to secure the aircraft during maintenance engine testing.

Brian, you have shared much with me - I will share with you a landing technique for the F-16. I learned this from a flying buddy who is a commercial airline pilot. He came up with a mix that lets you float / glide the F-16 in like a dead stick trainer. He put it on a switch. He turns on base and cuts power to 30 percent then turns on final and cuts power to zero or near zero. From there to landing is mostly hands off unless minor corrections are needed and you can add a little flare at the end if desired. He has up elevator mixed in with the throttle as the throttle is lowered. I'll share settings if you are interested. I'm sure your F-16 would land consistently and without running off the drive way with this technique. It takes the speed away and makes for very short landings. You can do it with high alpha manually but this takes the guess work out of it.

Cool! I just need to practice more ;)

He has probably been eating the little birds , the hawks have eaten about all of our mourning doves. They ambush their pray and often hunt in pair’s. I have seen as many as 7 hawks hunting in a pack as we run the hydro seeder and the pigeons come in by the hundreds for seed. Very interesting to see they are quite efficient, they will knock a pigeon out of the sky about every 15 minute s . I have had them eat their dinner just a few feet from me..

so after the ramp how was your CG? I running the smart 4000 with some counter weight. It would be good to loose any additional weight also thinking about trying 5k pack you have and luck with the bigger pack?
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 3 жыл бұрын
I have used the 5000mAh pack, but not since adding the ramp/lower the Rx mod...In my early flight, the 5000mAh doesn't add enough flight time to justify, plus it's only a 30C, whereas the 4000mAh 6S 50C. This or the 3200 6S 30C seems to be the BEST choice...flying 7-8 minutes with 4000mAh (down to near 0% though). The CG is way better. Better, more reliable flare on demand, and drops the nose at a far lower speed...the stall is just tough becasue of our landing approaches at our site. A straight runway with clearings on both ends would make it easier, since I have to sink BEFORE coming into high alpha, or I risk slamming the nose down on the runway. It's a balancing act, for sure. I need to get into high alpha and fly in the "bowl" over behind the garage, and just make a circle ending on the runway, with a glorious landing...but I bet I can only do that OFF CAMERA - LOL

I was a little nervous also when I first got the F-16 as it was my first 70mm and plane with retracts. But once I maiden it it was a pussy cat. It flys great and just bring it in with a little speed and nose up to land. Don’t be afraid go for it

Hey brian i got the eflite f 16 Thunderbird i was just wondering how u made those those gear air breaks u have on urs those this look pretty sweet wanted to try them out thanks love all ur videos very informative
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 3 жыл бұрын
Super easy, I just cut up a piece of clear plastic, and sized it to cover the gear, when retracted, then zip tied them on each landing gear. I first used a piece of thin cardboard, getting the size "just right" then I used that as a template on clear piece of plastic. The rest is history! That being said, moving the RX a bit to make the lipo sit on top was a better mod, and probably a bit easier. That allows the CG to move back sufficient to get better flare for landings, and better high alpha....this was done in my "LED Afterburner" mod video (last of the series), if you'd like to see how I did it.

@@BrianPhillipsRC I saw the video I was using that for my install on the firey booty I havent done a maiden on this jet yet I've only been in the hobby couple months. I've been flying warbirds love them but tend to crash alot. I'm in my hanger doing rebuilds more then flying but I love it I learn alot. I flew my first jet last week. F 16 falcon 64mm, i did the maidan on it. I flew that bird better then the warbird I've been flying lol so I'm getting closer to the Thunderbird hopefully before the snow flys. I got the 5000 6s smart for the Thunderbird. I'm not sure if I wanna use that for maiden what u suggest. I was thinking the 4000 6s. What is ur new cg with that battery/rx mod u did thanks for ur response!!!

I have a question... I purchased a Spektrum 4000mah 6S 50C Lip Battery: 1C5 that does not have balancing wires for charging. I guess they somehow built them into the control pack of the battery. It looks like the balancing wire is the power source for the afterburner. I'm relatively handy when it comes to finding other sources of power but do not want to damage anything. Does anyone have thoughts on an alternative power source?
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 2 жыл бұрын
G2 Smart packs have a charge control circuit built in where the wires come into the pack...older SMART packs were referred to as G1 and DO have the balance port still, and the auto-balancing was not quite as good as the G2. If you crash a plane with a G2 pack, take the time to VERY CAREFULLY remove the pcb - pretty cool to see! Now, as for your quesiton.... I was told they're (horizon hobby) working on an adapter for just these situations, but my suggestion would be to do one of the two methods... 1) Use a second small 3S pack (Assuming it's a 3S burner) 2) Steal power from the Servos via the onboard ESC 3) Install a second SBEC or UBEC and set the output to what you need...this would be way too much work for me, but if I were running dual burners or wanted to make a "tap" that could be shared between models this would work pretty good. (Idea for Option 3 - look how small these are! amzn.to/39efmi9 | how huge this is, and high voltage input amzn.to/3xJuFsF - remember, if you NEED 10VDC or so for 3S emulation, you'll need to have higher than typical BEC voltage! ) ...or just use a G1 pack (SMART, but just still has the balance lead.) Also, just keep in mind that you'll probably burn out your burner if you go straight off the discharge lead (too much voltage on 6S). Good luck.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi there - The gentleman that sold me the afterburner suggested that I just get a 3a 12v UBEC and connect it that way. If I understand him correctly, the UBEC would be connected directly the ESC Pos/Neg. cables that essentially connected straight to the G2 battery pack. The output end would connect to the afterburner and that's it. I do have a 3s battery pack and connected the balancing wire just to test the LED and it worked great so I just need to order a UBEC from Amazon and do some work on Monday.

LOL - There will never be a video of the camera crew flying it - LOL As for the lipo sideways, that was more than likely to get the leads to the side, since the canopy would have not been able to close otherwise...but this is just from memory.
