Awesome temporary fix for my 92 integra! Used a .093 x 1-5/8 hitch pin. And a Dremel worked just fine. Just becareful because the grease will pressure out. Just use a rag, cover it and let it seep out.

I had soft struts in the tailgate so I bought a small pair of needlenose locking grips for $3, cut some old fuel hose and inserted them on the end. SO now i just lock grip one of the struts at the height i want.

Some lift gates are tremendously heavy and could literally kill ya, but for this it's feasable with a slight under cut to keep the clip pinched in prenting a slide out. "I don't wash my trash before I throw it out." Reminded me of Einstein statement regarding someone commenting on his hair needing to be cut. He replied, "Why prune a dead tree?"

I like you bud. Yes. genius! You think like I do. My chev blazer struts new are bad in 6 months. The heck with that. I like your clip trick very much. Thanks for sharing your amazing brain power. I got to tell you about the driver side door hanging low and won't close. replaced the top hinge pin three times and it never improved anything because the hole is warbler out. I can't believe it took me so long to solve it. One day I was frustrated with it and I asked myself what would I do to fix it? I can't believe I didn't ask myself that sooner. I looked at it and boom solved in a nano second. Well I would put two bolts in there instead of one pin. I went and got four bolts with double nuts for each bolt. I got lock washers, 1 for each bolt, and ten washers for each bolt. I knew I was going to build something that would work. I got two size bolts just in case, right? I was thinking maybe put the washers on the bolts with a nut tightening them down, stick the bolt in my drill and turn the washers down to the perfect size for each hole on the bench grinder. I just did this today, I'm so proud of myself, I set up for the project took the door spring out dropped the pin out, with the door supported on my floor jack. I dump out my plethora of nuts and bolts hardware and start brain storming how to make this work. Bingo I got it. So the bolts I bought were carriage bolts. What I did was turn down the square section under each bolt head to fit each hole. I beveled the turn so they tapered into the socket for a perfect fit; bolt head flush with the hinge surface. Then I actually turned down the leading nut in the same manner. When I tightened them up it centered all the hinge holes back to where they are supposed to be. I followed the leading nut with a lock washer and a full nut to prevent them from coming loose of course. I had to opene and close the door a few times and re tighten everything before everything was seated just right. I couldn't believe it when I swung the door shut and it shut first time. What a pain in the tail that door has been having to lift up on it to close it. Damaged the catch on the jamb, broke the rain guard. All that has been repaired. I was quoted $800.00 to $900.00 to have a body shop do it. I'm out $50.00 for some nuts and bolts, a window rain guard full kit and some JB Weld. It's a good trick, Maybe you can use it some day. Great video thank you. I just bought a Cordless USB rechargeable "Dremel" and a bunch of "Dremel" high quality cutting bits blades and the works, First thing I'm going to use it on, ... see if you can guess.

Presto pin. Great idea. I was wondering if drilling a hole through the rod would be possible? I too am worried about the pin slipping off. Do you think the steel has been hardened to a degree that would make it very difficult to drill? Thanks for sharing.
@hless4216
@hless4216 10 жыл бұрын
I don't see it being an issue drilling through, as long as it's dead center. It probably can't be too big because it might compromise the integrity or too small so the pin can't support the weight. The pin would most likely have to be the strongest part. Then how does one secure the pin?

On a different subject, I am looking to getting into rubber tramping (living in a rv type vehicle full time) most likely using a truck camper. I leaning towards getting a used diesel powered vehicle. Which Diesel engine is by far the better?

I drilled a hole in the black tube under the stantion. Then I stick a a bolt or chopstick thru the tube all the way thru. No chance of it being knocked off like clip. And easier to just drill a hole than angle grinder Carnage. Great channel by the way. Your skills and Vids are top notch.

I was about to do the expensive fix. I think I'll do the 3/8 hose plan until I'm up to buying a cutting tool. I'd rather have money in tools. They've broken on my mom's nice car. I think I'll do the real fix there as under the hood where would you put hoses? Lol
