Wow, That brings back memories. I was handed a 96 Geo Metro to play with. And since the previous owner looked like she used it for a demolition derby contender. There wasn't one panel or door or even the top that wasn't seriously damaged. I thought I would try my hand at auto-body repair, just because. Amazingly, I did teach myself after many many times of redoing the same areas and not liking how they looked. But then I finally understood how it was done and refurbished that car back to new condition. Even the inside headliner and seats, carpet and you name it. It was amazing the difference in that vehicle once I was finished refurbishing it. The new paint finish was near perfect and the local body repair guy stated he couldn't have done it any better and was amazed I did that on my first attempt. And it was that same red color as well...

why tear in on a motor with 280k on it ? replace it with a good used motor
@jimchance50064 жыл бұрын
@@marksimmons3801 Good question. These motors are known for running for like 500k miles, but the prizm ones (mostly 1998 and later) burned lots of oil. So the ones in the junkyard are all ran out of oil, thats the only thing that kill these things. Even a good junkyard motor will start burning oil shortly after I install it. To fix the issue, you have to drill 2 extra oil drain holes in the piston. I figured I could either get a junkyard motor that will maybe run for 20k more miles before oil consumption kills it, or I could rebuild mine with fixed pistons and run it for another 200k.

This isn't the 70's anymore. Most other brands caught up to them in quality...

@@TheWonderer7 In what world? American cars are scrap metal with shiny paint jobs, gauranteed to break down after 5 years

Shoot! Started right up! I'd be driving that little puddle jumper around town, fix brakes, and add oil as needed! I'll bet it still uses less oil than my '72 Chevy Vega did, many years ago!😁😀

I love Geos! They're great cars. It's kind of sad to see two sitting in the woods. I see them all over where I live. Thanks for sharing!

They are as dependable as a Honda and cheap to repair. Easy to park. I've removed the passenger seat to haul 8 foot lumber with the hatch closed.

Why do people just park and leave their old worn vehicles? Literally, a one minute phone call to a junk yard will get a guy to come get it and cash in your hand. Just saying...

Depends on your location. Steve is obviously well out in a rural area.

As a northerner I have to wonder why do folks not repair vehicles with clean bodies. Anything without rust is worth putting money in to in my book. If you can fix your own that is.

At current scrap prices he would probably have to pay them to take it.

Mike F cuz we don’t care about driving them anymore but don’t want rid of them. It’s nice to have back ups to your back ups when you drive old shitty cars
