If you need the brightness of 500 watt halogen, this conversion is not for you. For what I like to use a work light for, the LED conversion will work just fine.

I've got this same work light. I'm going to do this conversion as soon as I can get the bulbs BSR! I actually took these apart and used to used them as stage flood lights at a restaurant I used to DJ at. They worked great (=

Thanks a ton for this video! It was such a relief having this solution on a photoshoot. Needed just a few more lights so I improvised. The heat from the original bulbs was just too dangerous, but there is no heat at all from these! Outstanding, thanks so much! Tipbot?

as a heads up, they also make higher wattage J118 LEDs. (so you can theoretically go brighter)

I appreciate the video! I'm in the same situation. Have a shop light and want to make it run cooler and cheaper. Thanks!

I have the exact same lights. You can actually store the Halogen bulbs in a screw off cap which is part of the handle.

Good video but i have one little question. Why wasn't there a comparison of the light throw between the different globes rather than looking at the glowing globes themselves ?😁

I know with the halogen light the back of these work lights gets really hot, does that still happen when you change the bulbs to led?
@stinkycheese8046 жыл бұрын
No, LED use much less power so much less heat. Only problem is, it's supposed to be a LIGHT and now makes a lot less of it. You can also buy lower wattage halogen bulbs if you just want less light and have higher CRI.

Brian, what exactly was the brand/model or item number from amazon? Thanks

Some are 3" (78mm) and some are 4-5/8" (118mm), so measure your bulbs. They're $3.16 or $5.09 from HongKong via ebay Neutral White (4000k-4500k color) SMD LED 16W Replacement Halogen Lamps | eBay is.gd/NY32wy Roughly 100w of pure white light. The smaller are 75w. // From Amazon, they're $14.99 a pair and come in two sizes two colors. Warm white is 2700k (the sickly yellow color of incandescent lamps) and Daylight 6000k (a bit on the bluish side, but bright white) KINDEEP 2pcs 118mm R7S LED Bulb 75W-100W Halogen Equivalent, AC 110V-130V, J Type R7S Base, Daylight White 6000K, 2-Pack - - AmazonSmile is.gd/xIJvmK These are non-dimmable, so choose your size, color, and whether or not you want dimmable (not especially recommended, as different manufacturers have varying luck with that.) // I did something different. I took half a pair of AmazonSmile: Miady 4 inches Square LED Light Bar 48W Flood Work Light Off Road Lights for SUV, ATV, Jeep, 4x4, Pickup Truck, Boat , RZR Car (Pack of 2): Automotive is.gd/VZ4a5D (which actually draw just 27w, but each is very bright), mounted it on a Radio Shack box $7, connected to a 5ah 12v lead acid motorcycle battery through a $1 switch, charging it with a $6 1a 12v charger. I used it for painting the house, scanning the yard when I heard funny noises outside at night (it lights up the yard easily), so you know it's mobile and can be set on anything. I'm going to drill a hole in a piece of aluminum sheet and bungee it to my photographic tripod for higher lighting next time. I kept wanting to use the ladder the last time.

Is this work light the 6p15 model?
@ScorpionRegent4 жыл бұрын
If it were only that easy. The LED replacements I got were a fraction too long and I had to pull out the reflector and modify the contact placement so it would work. It's what happens when there's no quality control.

Website says to replace the ballast. Have you had any problems like flickering, burn out? Thinking about buying some.
@stinkycheese8046 жыл бұрын
You must be looking at the wrong product instructions. Fluorescent work lights have ballasts. Halogen don't.

I wouldn't really call this a shop light. I have the exact one and use it for drying paint and working under the house and outside at night and for other things that require a bright bulb. LEDs are cool and this is a good video but it kind of makes the light useless for it's intended purpose. Good video though.

Turns it into a 100 Watt light.

LED lights do not last and are not as dependable as incandescent period. Best thing is to keep the halogen light the way it is and buy another light(keep both types). The incandescent will last a lifetime(and your childrens childrens lifetime) and if kept in a dry location can be stored and fired up anytime in the future. The epoxy that holds the LED to the lights circuit board degrades over time and other components degrade(I have many LED lights fail in short order including a $130 Nighcore 2000 lumen flashlight that lasted 15 minutes total use in eleven months until it failed). These LED lights are NOT as bright as 1000 watts of halogen either. So have both for the LED is good when working inside especially in summer and the LED is easy to drive with small generators during emergencies but always keep the tried and true incandescent around just in case. LED lights break and usually are not DIY repairable, unrepairable lamps would have been a joke in days of old but its a reality these days.
