I think the power button placement designer on the Mac mini is the same person that had the charging port location on the bottom of the Magic Mouse. Apple is giving us all 1 thing to bitch at per product. 😂😂

You know what's weird? With the Education discount the base Mac Mini is $499 and the Airpods Max is $549. Just odd that a desktop computer is cheaper than headphones.

Not really surprising. Prices are a function of market forces, not cost of manufacturing. More people are willing to pay higher prices for a noise cancelling headset than for a basic entry level desktop. I bet the people buying the expensive airpods max are not buying the mac mini entry level. They're buying the very expensive m4 pro models

Totally agree. If they're hiding the power button, then they should hide the option to "Shut Down..." Mac mini's are my preferred computer, but that doesn't mean that bad design shouldn't be called out. Apple praises their environmental credentials while encouraging people to leave their electronics switched on.

The charging port still being on the bottom of the mouse is on purpose. If you use your mouse plugged in then it isn't a "wireless" mouse.

Theoretically it defeats the purpose of the Magic Mouse being "wireless" BUT IF they REDESIGNED the Magic Mouse to be able to be used WHILE PLUGGED IN then the "WIRELESS" WOULD be OPTIONAL People DO LIKE HARD WIRED connections for their peripherals like headphones mice and keyboards when they're working on important things

I have a Beelink Ser9 and have on order the new base model m4 mac mini and both are the same exact size and equivalent in power for both widows and mac users on one desk and i love it.

Brian, about a year ago I took your advice and bought the fully maxed out M3 iMac. I love it. Should I get the new M4? Or not really a huge upgrade? (I went from 2012 to 2023 with the same iMac and it still runs)

You really won't get any significant gains from year to year upgrades with a Mac, the last big jump was from Intel to Apple Silicon. And now Apple Silicon is so good. I'm not sure exactly how you use your computer, but your iMac should treat you well for a long time.

The people that are making a stink about the Mac mini power button have to be PC users. Mac users rarely have to use the power button. The M4 Mac mini power button location is no big deal. My BTO version will be here soon. Very excited!

Bullshit about the button, there were many better places than below the bloody thing 😂 I turn off the machine every day for the simple reason that the mini keeps going out of standby by itself every hour or so and turns on my keyboard and mouse… being RGB they light up my entire room😂

Thank you for great content! I can not believe that Apple still making that "Magic Mouse". Recently had to go to a short trip and decided to grab my magic mouse 2 with my MBP M2 max. This mouse is HORRBLE!, after about 10 min of working my hand started to cramp up... WTF. Ended up using trackpad for the rest of the trip. Came home, took a hammer and this mouse, walked outside and smashed it! I can not believe that the company who literally invented mouse, still making this crap and can not do redesign... What are your thoughts about Magic Mouse?

I love the Magic Mouse 2. Have one for the Mini and one that I can use with the MacBook Air or iPad Pro. I bought one of the Logitech that was supposed to be the direct replacement and hated it. Then bought one of the fancy ergonomic Logitech ones and hated that even more. They're both sitting in a box somewhere and haven't seen either one for a couple of years. When my boy comes up for a condo clean out I'll find them and throw them in the box for the charity shop.

I would buy a 256 Gb M1 Mac Mini in preference to a 256 Gb M2 Mac Mini. This is because The SSD in the 256 Gb M1 Mac Mini consists of two 128 Gb flash modules, whereas the SSD in the M2 Mac Mini consists of only one 256 Gb Gb flash module which is half as fast as two modules. This leads to the most important question about the 256 Gb M4 Mac Mini. Does the 256 Gb M4 Mac Mini have two 128 Gb flash modules or only one 256 Gb Flash module? If the £599 M4 model has two modules then it is a very good buy. Otherwise the 512 Gb £799 M4 model is the only sensible choice.

I watched "2024 M4 Mac Mini Teardown" by "Brandon Geekabit" and it reveals that the flash memory is located on a removable daughter board resembling the standard M.2 2230 flash memory board in a Steam Deck. Superficially it looks as if this daughter board is a standard part but I suspect that Apple has modified this board to have a proprietary design to make user upgrades impossible.

Yeah, but these aren't the 2nd rate machines you get as a PC. These use Apple Silicon and NEVER have to be turned off. I've had a Mini M2 Pro 32g/1t since it came out and I've NEVER turned it off. Not once, Not ever. I just let it go to sleep and wake it up when I use it. And it automatically turns on by my watch by touching the space bar, or any key, or clicking the mouse.

I'm still using the mouse and keyboard from the 2015 iMac Retina and they still only need charging once or twice a month, in the evening while I'm asleep. Actually I think is a bit uglier... the logo size seems disproportionate in relation to the mini box, the case. The logo should be smaller. But love the mini. And want a mac mini carry case!

I am working in 1080p, but plan to start working in 4k. Currently I am Using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD (2TB & 4TB) to edit off whilst using FCP. 1) For my needs, which exact configuration of the new M4 Mac Mini should I get? (Pro or no, RAM, SSD) 2) Can I get maximum speed via Thunderbolt 4 or 5 using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD? I would really like to save $ by not going with the pricey Apple storage & sticking with the externals. Thank you!
