I used a usb a to c adapter to plug in a usb hub and it cut my wired and WiFi speed right down, found a comment on google saying check your devices plugged in. Yep pulled the cable out the back and full speed net again. It does however work if you plug it into one those small usb c hubs. Just incase anyone has the same issue as me.

This is the way I’m going personally. Getting a 2TB NVMe with a bus-powered enclosure. Small little footprint; will live plugged in 100% of the time to the Mac mini, and I will be storing my Home folder on there

I m planning to get the new Mac Mini M4. I already have the Dell G3223Q monitor , which is 32 inches , has 4K resolution, and is FANTASTIC for my PS5 set up. Do I need to change my monitor for the Mac Mini?
@techtonictim3 сағат бұрын
You made a great choice with that screen👌 and yes, it will work well with the Mac Mini M4.. I'm using mostly a 27" but often think I could do with something just a tad larger, your 32" should be a treat for the eyes :-)

@dan_hitchman00751 минут бұрын
You can plug in another one with a USB-C/Thunderbolt plug. There are adapters if you only have display port or HDMI on your display.

Very helpful suggestions for my (soon to be) Mac Mini Pro M4! You mention a MOKIN dock. I’ve used a j5CREATE dock for the past 3 years on my current Mac Mini 2018 Intel i7. BUT this j5CREATE gets so hot if I leave it plugged in for more than 30 minutes that I basically only use its SD card reading ports - afraid to plug-in a keyboard to the USB-A port and then have the dock start a fire or something. How is the MOKIN? Does it remain relatively cool during the day when you have it plugged in? (The j5 gets hot even if it is plugged in but no port being used!) Thanks for any comments and if others have feedback I would really appreciate it! Steve on 19 Nov 2024

Hi Steve, It has done so far.. however, it does get pretty warm if I run an external SATA drive attached to it along with a webcam but I must say, it's not so warm that I worry about it being left in there. I'm doing some more tests at the moment with various different storage devices in different combinations so I'll keep an eye on the heat side of things through that testing. Hope you enjoy your new Mac.. got to say i'm super pleased with it.

I just bought magic keyboard USB c without touch id at $99. Am i missing out on touch id version? Spending $150 without backlight is obscene pricing though.
@techtonictim2 сағат бұрын
Hi, It's a convenience thing really.. I do swap between the compact magic keyboard with touch and a Logi MX Keys Mini that doesn't have touch ID.. it's just a little easier unlocking etc.. I bought the magic keyboard on a deal as a 'used' item from Amazon.. it seemed brand new to me but I think I would have gone like you and saved the money otherwise.

Rather than buy multiple dongles, buy a Thunderbolt 4 dock and a TB4 external SSD to move your “home folder” to. Don’t need a full TB4 dock? Get a USB 3 hub with the ports you need. And I’m a fan of the Apple Extended keyboard, the number keypad is a necessity if you use a lot of numbers.

Will a DVI to USB C adaptor work to connect a non-Apple monitor?

Not sure on DVI.. I have the M4 Pro and it supports USB C to DP and of course built in is HDMI. I'm currently connected to an LG 27" have have a Dell (both HDMI) in the office and they're both superb.. I've just ordered one of these and I'll test it then let you know - amzn.eu/d/fuOmErS 👍

They don't want to ruin their "rep" about their sleek, slim form factor. If they admit you need dongles coming out the wazoo for the best connectivity options due to their leaning on style over substance, then the illusion is broken.

I am sure someone else mentioned USB C connected speakers, ideal if you are swapping to the mac mini
@Kevin6t88 сағат бұрын
I just use my monitor for the output source for my speakers. It has both USB-C and a headphone jack. That way I keep my headphone jack on my M4 Mac Mini open for my headphones.
@techtonictim2 сағат бұрын
Have to say Steve, the diddy little speaker in the new Mini is surprisingly good.. definitely better that the M2 Pro Mini speaker.. I have some Amazon Basics also here to use for anything that needs it a little louder which are rather good otherwise I plug in the Beats headphones so I don't upset others😂

Do you need a thunderbolt Hub at the back or the mokin is enough?
@techtonictim3 сағат бұрын
It really depends on what you need to connect to it.. I do also have an Acasis TBU401E enclosure with a 2TB drive plugged in the rear for additional storage that's super quick.. an upcoming video takes you through some various options..

Can you expand the storage if I were to buy the base model.. also, have you a display you’d recommend, about 24” and 4K I think ? Thanks for the video
@techtonictimКүн бұрын
Hiya, yes but not currently easily internally.. these new Mac Mini’s do seem to have their SSD drives in sockets but it’s not that clear yet if users can swap these out. However, you can easily add more storage via plugin SSD drives etc.. in an upcoming video I’ll go into the various options in some detail 👍 For the display, I currently use an LG 27” 4K screen and i’m very pleased with that.. I’ll post some links shortly 👌

@@techtonictim The SSD is proprietary in its connectivity and interface with the Mac, it's not user "plug n play" swappable unless some off-brand comes out with a clone model as a means to upgrade (whilst voiding the warranty). Apple only moved back to a module SSD drive to make it easier for the Apple Store employees to do a quick repair.

I’m using a Satechi Mac Mini Stand for my Mac Studio right now. I bet they’re developing one for the new Mac Mini as we speak. I do see the need for additional ports and a place to put an external SSD, but I think I’d rather wait for an all-in-one stand/hub instead of having multiple separate dongles and extensions. But the uGreen stuff is really nice and solidly built.
@techtonictim2 сағат бұрын
Yes, I think you're right.. I can see a few good options coming pretty soon. I too had a Satechi one that went under my original Mac Mini M1.. With you having the Studio, are you tempted by the M4 Pro ? I imagine there might be an updated Studio coming next year though🤔

New sub here. Great channel. Would you be so kind as to answer a few questions. I mostly use Final Cut Pro & Photoshop to create videos on my Billy Luna Crime Stories YT channel. I am working in 1080p, but plan to start working in 4k. Currently I am Using a Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD (2TB & 4TB) to edit off whilst using FCP. I like to use Final Cut Pro, Photoshop and 40 web browser tabs open simultaneously. 1) For my needs, which exact configuration of the new M4 Mac Mini should I get? (Pro or no, RAM, SSD) These are the two configurations that I have been mulling: $1,079.00 Apple M4 chip with 10‑core CPU, 10‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine 32GB unified memory Or $1,799.00 512GB SSD storage Apple M4 Pro chip with 12‑core CPU, 16‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine 48GB unified memory 512GB SSD storage 2) Is there any speed or performance advantage in going with a 1 TB SSD vs 512? 3) Do I need to worry about fan noise when I’m recording on camera video or voice over?
@dan_hitchman00728 минут бұрын
If you don't need the computer right away, I would wait for the inevitable M4 Studio Max more than likely coming in the Spring. A tricked out M4 Pro will be ever so close in price to a Studio Max. With multiple tracks of 4k video to edit, you will need the extra horsepower in the Max's GPU cores. I have read of more than one person having issues with the Pro depending on the software you use. Mini's for professional video work can be hit and miss because the GPU section isn't as robust.
