I just plugged in a new 9 liter 12 volt refrigerator to get it cold. I came to youtube with my question of how muchvpower/time it will drain from my Jackery 1000. You are using a 300 and if that 300 powered that big fridge for 24 hours then I know minexwill keep it cold for days. Yippee. I just got a 12v compressor cooler for my car for when I go grocery shopping because that way, I don't have to go straight home when food shopping. Since I don't feel comfortable having the cooler potentially run down my car battery, I've been looking at portable power stations but wondered how long they would keep a cooler running. Thanks to you, I have a pretty good idea what to expect in terms of real world runtime. Great job!

Any of the coolers I've looked at lately, on amazon, have an automatic shut off so it doesn't drain your battery. I worried about the same thing. Also I did not know until recently that you can buy a cooler that you can either use as a refrigerator or freezer or, genius!, one that has dual zones, fridge and freezer! 💃 💃 💃

My little dorm fridge has the little freezer part that`s inside the fridge at the top so I put bottles of water in it to freeze that will keep the fridge cool when I recharge the power station. Well...that`s the hurricane plan and I`ve tested it with good results. For redundancy I got two 700 watt power stations and two 500 watt ones and a tiny 2 stroke gas generator to recharge if it`s cloudy, plus I have a lot of cheap 300 watt ones for backup storage that I pick up when I see a great sale.

@caver6292
@caver6292 3 ай бұрын
@@ghilly_one1720 Pass-through charging is the process that allows your power bank or portable power station to be plugged into the main source while your device that needs charging is also plugged into it. It's like allowing two devices to be recharged at the same time....in this case the fridge is just consuming power, only one item-the power bank, or battery, is being charged while being depleted at the same time by the fridge. The trick is to manage to charge it at the same rate the fridge consumes or faster.

Obviously you know this but some folks don’t seem to understand these units are NOT coolers, also it is NOT a cool box, it’s got a compressor so it’s a REAL refrigerator. A cooler, an cool box, and a compressor fridge are all different devices and function entirely different. A compressor fridge is a refrigerator like in a house. Difference being Instead on being large and inside one’s home, this is simply a smaller portable unit. While they look vastly different they function the same, therefore both are refrigerators, “compressor refrigerators” to be exact.

I'm sure that will work fine. At night, with the solar panel drawing no power and not charging, the fridge should be good. Keep in mind, I'm Canadian, living about 500 miles north of the border and I do not get Texas weather. Any advice? I just don't want to buy the 300 and end up having to get a 500. Thank you.

If you can, I’d for sure recommend at least the 500. And there are a lot of 500-700 watt hour options that are LifePo4 battery chemistry unlike the Jackery that is a much safer and higher quality battery than the NMC chemistry Jackery uses. Most of the time much cheaper than Jackery too👍🏻 Oupes, Oukitel, Ecoflow …..all have superior battery stations than the Jackery in my opinion now.

When the cooler is 3/4 full with cans and soda/beer would that create a "cold-sink" to have the cooler not have to work no hard once they are at the chilled temperature? They could even be prechilled in the home fridge. I have read that this is helpful when the cooler is being opened and closed during regular use.

We are going to be in separate tents so we will need enough power to recharge 2 tent fans (usb rechargeable) daily, 1 iphone 13 daily, 1 powered lantern probably recharge only once mid week. I won’t have access to recharge the power bank bec not Close to any outlet so I need it to have enough power to last 7 days. I’m ok with solar recharge if that helps but not sure how reliable solar will be? I’d prefer power bank not station but if station recommended I’d prefer under 10lbs

Thinking of buying the Jackery 300 (290) but reviews say it will shut off if the 12 volt cooler (set at 41 degrees) or anything plugged in does not draw power for a few hours, that means the cooler would shut off with food in it. Yikes! Have you heard of this or have any suggestions how to prevent this from happening? You had your cooler set at 31 or so which is cooler than we need for just fruits and veggies. Loved this video!!

My Jackery never shut off, but it bud true if no power is drawn on the Jackery for an extended period of time it will shut itself off to prevent battery drainage. I’ve found that I use my cooler enough (opening the lid) that it requires the compressor to kick on often enough that I haven’t had this issue. You could also try setting the temp just a few degrees cooler to make the fridge run just a little harder.

@@ripeforthepickingbyedm or you could plug in something (DC) with very low draw to maintain a constant “pull” so the unit does not turn off. Only problem with using the plug and running the inverter is that it will drain the battery faster.

@BrianWatersOutdoors my coolers eco mode is on AC only. AC = 18w eco also Hi/Lo available DC = 42w only. So I am buying an inverter because of the maths.

Question, I’m definitely not an electrician, but was under the assumption that if frig pulls 30W then the Jackery 300 should only lasts less than 10 hours, am I missing something?
@BrianWatersOutdoors
@BrianWatersOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
That’s prob true, but this wasn’t pulling a continuous 30 watts. The cooler only turned on when needed to maintain the temp I sat it at.

Thanks for the reply. Does the frig you tested have an option that only pulls when needed? I have a Koolaton 12V cooler, listed as 48W, which drains my Jackery in 5h.

@@Ginogino12020 my cooler monitors the inside temp, so when the temp rises above what I set it at to maintain it will kick on the compressor to cool it down to what I have the cooler programmed at.

@@Ginogino12020 Sounds like you`re using a cooler without a compressor and thermostat. There are inexpensive types that use an electric heat exchanger type design that stay on all the time.

It appears to be well made. Westinghouse recommends a 5 hour break in period at 50% load. The included picture was taken during this break in period. I tested it with gas and then propane, and it ran well. I haven't yet tested it under full load, but will update this review if problems are encountered.
