I have one question though, what is the benefit of adding clay bit by tiny bit, vs adding a big blob and then carving away at it to get the shape and detail you want? Thank you!

Yes it is a bent guitar string , self made tool , to make is you just need to cut a guitar string , bend it and glue it to a stick of wood 👍🏻

I haven’t tried mixing Fimo with sculpey, I’ll have to try that next time I use it. I usually use magic sculptor I work in a wax clay mix for pieces I’m casting. I love the wire trick! I remember I’d seen that years ago and forgotten about it. I’ll have to remember for my next armature I make. Beautiful work. We even use the same tools! Lol I admit I’m a bit of a tool hoarder though. If I see one I haven’t tried I buy it lol. I also make my own using guitar strings for wire looks and rakes. EDIT: Typos
