Interesting build. Some years ago I was tempted to build a battery bank out of these cells and now I'm so glad I didn't! Thanks for all the great vids you post. You were instrumental in my building a LiPo4 bank and supporting solar system for my RV.

This battery is a great tool for me, thank you. I'm in the process of buying 2 mini lithium batteries to use for my 12V. Perfect timing. Thank you.

It's gone even further. All of the cells are removed from the pack now 😅

Interesting breakdown. About the only think I use 18650's for are flashlights and vape :) I like the batteryfinder, seems like a quick way to find deals. Thanks.

This battery looks to be a good quality, but the spot welds sure looked weak. I hope 18650 sells are still being made, I use them for several flash lights I used quite a lot. Excellent video.

this is 18650 with LFP chemistri, its 3.2v, dont confuse with 18650 Lion one in the market with 3,7v

I'm impressed with those battery arrangement, that's cool, but the weld joint are weak.

18650s still get a lot of use at my place. They're handy for flashlights, the UPS for my raspberry pi, etc. You're creative, so I'm sure you'll find a use for some of them. 🤔

I acquired 12 of those batteries and several BMS units about 10 years ago. 4 of them have been in my golf cart ever since. They still report 88-92% capacity. The original manufacturer was Valence but yours has been rebranded. You are correct that the battery doesn’t have internal switching and it relies on the External BMS. They communicate via RS485 using a pretty basic instruction set and will respond to polling. I could give you more detail but you are probably past that. The batteries are designed for Hospital-grade backup and are rated for 20-year life. The cell falling out is probably from being dropped. They are extremely robust cells otherwise. Also, it’s a shame you cut into that case. Opening it just requires a quick blast of air through the LED hole and the top pops up.

Mine are slightly larger at 99P-4S for 148.5AH.

The individual cells in my packs are labeled: +LISHEN VALENCE Proven™️ 3.2V - IFR-18650EC YN06 So they are probably 18 years old. And even the one I accidentally killed to
@LithiumSolar2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing this information. It's neat to hear you can communicate with them and it's not some proprietary encrypted protocol or something. Also, not so sure about using air to remove the top. Mine looks to be glued on with a superglue-looking substance. Maybe your cases are slightly different.
@paulmccoy2908Ай бұрын
@@LithiumSolar The glue is intentionally weak. It has worked 100% for me. Also what is the copyright info on the board? Is it valence?

18650 Lifepo4 are still better than lithium cobalt manganese. You could make some small 12v uses for those cells like holiday lights powered by a small solar panel and a battery of those cells .
@LithiumSolar2 ай бұрын
Agree that they're better than colbalt-based batteries, but I still don't have much use for them. I'll probably end up giving them away.

I was referring to the battery finder work you did, that looks like an incredible amount of work! I do enjoy your battery breakdowns also. Do you have any rack 48 volt batteries you’re selling?
@LithiumSolar2 ай бұрын
Oh yes, it took me quite a while to figure out the Amazon APIs and it's actually costing me $50/month for access to one of them lol.

Is there any market for used 18650's? I did get some 48v 10ah packs on amzn for $170 for my ebike. So they're still in use out there.
@LithiumSolar2 ай бұрын
There always seems to be someone interested if you're able/willing to navigate the shipping regulations. There's not really anyone that seems interested locally (to me). I had to give them away last time and even then, that person drove from a few states away to pick them up.
@GeomancerHT2 ай бұрын
I know many laptop recyclers that resell the used 18650 cells, in general they are at 70-80% of the original capacity and that is a lot for many people just looking for cheap cells.
@LithiumSolar2 ай бұрын
@@GeomancerHT The problem is shipping. A lot of people selling them are just dropping them in the regular mail because either 1) They don't know that they are restricted 2) They don't care what the regulations say. I cannot knowingly violate the regulations and ship them.
