Nice work Jay, it's good to see these old bricks reused instead of getting crushed or sent to landfill

Some pretty long stretches of brickwork there, Jay! That's when you need the banter between the lads to stop boredom setting in!

Jim Newlands i just looked up the meaning of s banter hahaha , hilarious but your right !!! I think they Should implement it by law , minimum one banter a team goddamned cuz the wall is just endless with those headers

Like the look of that trowel .. does the swan neck give you a bit more leverage to spread the mortar ?
@JayKTS

Anthony I feel It does , the balance when it’s loaded with mortar is just different because it sits closer to your hand

Evan King thanks a lot ! Where you from ? When i was 30 years i wanted to go work in Australia actually . But was just too old for a working holiday visa

I wished I lived in Australia, no winters. I live in Québec now, mon pays c’est l’hiver... maintenant. Grew up on the west coast in British Columbia, now I sweat 😓 my balls of in the summer and freeze em off in the winter. There are still people that work hard and do good work, but we don’t have the same building style or practices that Europe seems to have. Everything seems to be built cheap and to fall apart after a few years... Anyway, just my opinion, keep shootin out the vids Jay! Edit: I’m a (molenbouwer in een hydro-elektrische dam) hope that’s correct. I have done a little bit of everything, some construction, renos, like working with cementitious substances, or at least I try! Have a good one and thanks again for your vids!

They talk french where you live ? Belgium also have 2 main languages , french and Dutch , actually 3 , there is a small part German . Merci beaucoup

Salut Jay, oui nous parlons français au Québec et l’anglais (les 2 langues officielles). Moi, je me débrouille en québécois 😁. Yes Canada is a pretty good country all around, not the best but far from the worst place to live... Certainly not as much history and charm as you guys. Here in Québec language and cultural heritage can be a touchy subject as it must be in Belgium so it’s kind of like walking through a mine field, you gotta be careful sometimes. I live in the greater Montréal region, just a little south east of Montreal (Rive-Sud), nice area to live. By the way, one of my neighbours is a Wallon, never asked if he spoke Dutch though... Toi, Tu habites quelle région?

Lovely job Jay ..... in England that is English bond. Do you just do the brickwork or do you point it at the end too ?🧱👍🏼😎
@JayKTS
@JayKTS 5 жыл бұрын
Steve and Alex thanks , I just looked up what English bond is , it looks like the stretchers are starting the same in each course ? In this wall the cross bond is only with 3quarters in the corners and windows So the one course stretchers start with 3quarter -header-stretcher-stretcher-str The next course stretchers start with 3quarter- stretcher-stretcher-stretcher- This is actually the Antwerp or maybe Flemish 🤔 way of crossbond , I do know there are more variants here in Belgium and Holland but all are still true crossbond as the stretchers are in uhm 🤔 ...stretcherbond haha Oh yes and pointing will be done by a pointer , I do point smaller things or sometimes it’s demanded to do the pointing directly , that’s a price difference , and if I need to point that house it would take too long I guess 😂

Jay Puyenbroeck . Looks very similar and makes a beautiful wall 👌🏼🧱👍🏽😎., Our header course starts with a header then a half header called a queen closer 👌🏼
@wolfhachmuth7731

It's called dutch bond in uk. Every 2nd stretcher course has a header after the 3quarter.

I am not sure what the weather over there is like but, using reclaimed bricks in the UK is the norm to match old buildings ect .The main issue with “our bricks” is that they are perhaps over a hundred years old which means they have had one hundred summers and winters and even may have been used and rebuilt twice .The Old houses get demolished and this pile of crap gets tipped in a yard the bricks are manually dressed (Cleaned) and stacked on a pallet with the good looking ones on the outside and all the misshapen bricks within ..So getting to the point of my comment regarding brick sealant .With the bricks now being weak on the face side thus allowing rain water and frost to enter and further destroy them I apply a couple of coats of spray on ( good quality) brick sealant which is sprayed on with a manual pump and wants the brick has absorbed enough the sealant you have in effect a gore-text like finish which should last a long time and you can’t see it ...☔️☔️☔️☔️🇬🇧

Ronnie Biggs very interesting ! We do have many products like sika for instance , I did use products in the past to make the surface more water resistant but preservation not yet though , the bricks I’m using are not that old .. maybe 40 to 70 years , not sure of it off course is just my guess , they come from several demolished buildings , who knows what landed in there Thanks for the info ✌🏻
