BEST Solution for BALLAST LEGO TRAIN TRACK!?

I FINALLY found an amazing solution for ballasting LEGO Train Track! Ballasting truly transforms standard track into something incredible... the difference is night and day! With that said... the process is daunting, part intensive, and expensive. The straights are not to bad, the curves are pretty crazy, but the switches, holy cow they are intense! What is the solution to make it easier? 3D Printing!
I got the ballast plates from: trixbrix.eu/
I got the l-gauge instructions from: l-gauge.org/

I’m a Lego purist, but this is a Lego problem, not a Bricksie problem. It makes perfect sense for Bricksie to solve the problem in the most efficient way possible & it would be crazy for Lego to penalize him for it.

@@BDD_Builds I don't know about other countries but here in Australia the LEGO tracks and roadplates are some of the most expensive LEGO you can buy, price per piece. Not really sure why, it's like they don't want people building cities with official parts.

Regarding the critizism for using third party ballast plates: The lego train community is usally fine with this type of third party elements. The majority accepts third party elements which are not provided by lego, like train wheels in different sizes, third party electronics (PFX brick, SBrick, BuWizz) and tracks and switches with advanced geometry. Even the lego group tolerates/accepts those on shows and exibitions, at least that is what I have heared. Personally, I still use original parts for straight sections and 3-D printed parts for curves and switches. Building those with normal bricks is just a big waste of time and money, from my point of view.

Don’t listen to these comments man, you do what you feel is right. Personally I agree that I do prefer genuine Lego but I think this is a great temporary solution until like 5 years down the road you’re almost done with your city and you can take on that challenge then. I would also prefer for the train tracks to not look bad in that time 😂

these comments man... do what you think is best for YOUR city. don't listen to the haters. i love the ballast from trixx and I've 3d printed custom switch tracks on my own and I don't care about the color or the fact that it's not Lego because all I care about is that my trains can run the loop which fyi if u think 3ds prints aren't good they are, and my trains run great on them.

I don't see an issue or controversy with these 3-D printed parts. It is similar to how you use wooden beams to support your upcoming mountain and winter village, as you are using outside resources rather than Lego (you could use Lego to support the mountain and winter village, but it would be very part-intensive, much like it is here). I didn't see any controversy over that, so there shouldn't be any in this case. Also, it is your studio and layout, you should feel free to construct it how you want. Don't listen to any hate comments about this, Bricksie! (I am aware that this could cause issues with LAN, but again, this is no different from the wooden beams under the mountains, so I don't believe there would be issues there, either)

Those printed pieces look amazing and color match is nice. I am on board with alternate brands because Lego just doesn't make all the different amusement park rides that I have in my park. My thoughts on 3rd party is this. If LEGO doesn’t make a part or the parts required are cost prohibitive then 3rd party is the solution. Let’s face it LEGO is overpriced. We need to support some competition to put market pressure on LEGO to get their prices more reasonable. For a decent LEGO set of $300, you can buy a 3D printer, an electric scooter, or a really nice TV, a nice outdoor basketball goal, or a full size table saw. The opportunity costs of $300 is high. Be it for an adult or children that $ can be used for a lot of productive purposes. There needs to be some consumer pressure to get LEGO to lower prices. So anyone who is hardline LEGO only and discourages people from 3rd party products, you are working against your own financial interests. That’s my opinion.

Interesting video. As a model railroad fan I have mixed feelings about all the different ballasted tracks Lego I've seen. Some look good, some look "off". They all seem too uniform and need more color variation IMO. The contrast you're going to get between ballasting the yard and your tiled city loop will look good. The "subway" will offer the chance to try other techniques in different sections too. (I'm picturing little tunnel portals between subway modules for different scenes in the far future.)

Trains, trains and more trains. I've always wanted to get into model railroads as a hobby but the big three always stop me, time, money, and space. So I totally get the excitement and the love of trains. Have you considered using 2×4 plate and 2x2 for the ballast and railroad ties before? The black 1× looks very realistic while I think the 2x looks more cartoonish maybe. Loved the yellow eye brick peeping out on your mils plate lol😂

An idea for a future video should be to build/create a railroad crossing with those ballasted tracks on top of your MILS plates. I’ve been slowly trying to figure out a vehicle crossing for these when they are ballasted from a MILS road plate over a ballasted train track back to another MILS road plate (essentially 4 “plate levels” higher than the road itself).

I need lots of plate s atm for under 3 arear s of my track s I been slack in trying to get tracks strengthened in thos 3 spots to get my train s running 😊 the new road plates I hate and mile s just take s up way to much money. In parts but theirs way s around that 😊if creative. Trix bricks yes. New about the from 4 years back 😊as Manny other s I know yous them track part s. 😊 Lego. So need s to lift thay game. With train track curve part and switch track part s and get back to. How good the Lego train set s once s was.
