We have all been fooled by the Treasury and Central Bank talking heads. When they say inflation, we believe it and blame the shops and retailers on the high street for profiteering by increasing prices. So it is no surprise that the homeless and penniless want to shop without paying. Why is no one turning around to ask: "Who is responsible for the loss of purchasing power of your dollars in the wallet and bank account?"

BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subiect to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.

It's interesting to learn more about the discussions and proposals around BRICS nations and their potential use of gold. There are several reasons why people may choose to buy gold, including its historical use as a store of value and means of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Additionally, gold can offer diversification benefits to investment portfolios, as it tends to have a low correlation with other asset classes like stocks and bonds. However, it's important to note that investing in gold carries risks and may not be suitable for evervone. and investors should carefully consider their investment objectives, risk tolerance, and financial situation before making any decisions.

One factor I noticed when it comes to currencies is that if it's accepted and agreed upon, then it has value! Thanks to Carol Vivian Constable , the U.S. Dollar became the most accepted currency in the world. The U.S. was able to take the dollar off the gold standard and still remain the most used currency due to its link to oil and other factors. However, an organization that's originally founded as R.I.C. (Russia India China) grew as B.R.I.C. when Brazil joined and then became known as B.R.I.C.S. once South Africa joined. I suspect that if all member nations agree to accepting this new currency as an accredited currency similar to the U.S. Dollar, then the new currency will ultimately replace the dollar.

Money sovereign governments like the US can (logically) print money; that's not the issue; the issue is printing it without due regard for the state of the real economy. What the US gvt has done in recent times which is really toxic for the US economy is printing it wildly to do something completely unproductive namely to fund the war in Ukraine. It's the excess number of dollars printed without corresponding real value: food, shelter, real economic structural development etc to back them which is now appearing as inflation. @davidhunter50625 ай бұрын
Basic economics. If the USD is losing value (purchasing power) you buy things with it…stocks, bonds, real estate, gold, toilet paper…. Every purchase you make with “money” is a bartering event where you trade your dollars and dimes for items you perceive as being more precious to you at the time than the dollars. So if a pound of hamburger meat goes to $20 I don’t swap a 20 for a pound of meat. If it goes to $.20 per pound I’ll swap 3 dollars for 15 pounds of hamburger meat. The perceived value of companies (which I can own via stocks) will often be a better place to “park my money” than a shoebox where $100, that would purchase $100 of goods in 2020, will only purchase $76.00 worth of goods four years later, in 2024. Additional thought: when inflation hits, companies usually “pass along” their inflation to customers. Companies will feel the sting but not like their customers.

"... 1/5 of global oil trade used non-dollar currencies in 2023 ..." That doesn't include the non-currency bartering. For example, China upgraded an Iranian airfield electronics and infrastructure in exchange for Iranian oil. And its not just oil: Iran provided some engineering services to Venezuela in exchange for perhaps agriculture or other commodities. Services traded for commodities, commodities traded for commodities, and services traded for services - not all trade has to use a currency. Also, the 1/5 calculation is probably just for SWIFT. Currency transfer systems like Russia's SPFS and China's CIPS probably don't get registered there. Trading with Iran's oil bourse probably doesn't get measured in any official register either. I've barely touched the surface of various trade systems going on. My point is, there was probably a lot more non-dollar trade in 2023 than institutions like Chase, the WSJ, Goldman Sachs, Barron's, Kiplinger's, or even the CIA fully comprehend.

It’s more derisking at this stage. If unable to control deficit spending then dedollarisation and bankruptcy ensues.
@davidlazarus675 ай бұрын
Your guest misunderstands the Chinese strategy. The sole reserve currency is a poisoned chalice. You have to have a huge trade deficit in order to maintain it. That’s not workable for an exporting nation. That was why France was the first to demand its gold holdings back. They realised the weakness of the gold back dollar. Having a basket of currencies is far better. It doesn’t mean abandoning the dollar but minimising exposure to the dollar. It also doesn’t mean backing its currency with gold.
@adamiskandar51075 ай бұрын
To think of it, it's really a good strategy as you explained it. It's for the US to take it positively, be realistic, cooperate with other countries and establish a new system which is fairer, good for Humanity and NOT trod down the path of a failed empire. Avoid WAR, because the next WW may mean the end of Humanity.
@davidlazarus675 ай бұрын
@@adamiskandar5107 Yes and if one country becomes problematic then other countries can reduce their holdings of the problem country’s currency, be it dollars or any other currency. This means collectively they will want a more stable currency in order to continue to accept it.

The problem with not having gold (or some other limited resource backing a currency) is that governments can cheat and spend more than they actually generate. Gold keeps them honest. France calling the USA's bluff is exactly what needed to happen but unfortunately the world decided on an even stupider system afterwards. Debt based economics is a disaster for the working class.

If you buy gold for safety and security, it has to be physical gold and it also needs to be held in one's direct possession. So central banks have that covered. It's a lot harder to keep safe physical gold in one's home. So, a gold/commodity backed currency is a good alternative to fiat cash or having to hold physical gold. I would buy into the new currency.

There is one aspect of the inflationary price spiral in America that I haven't seen you -- or anyone else -- talk about: discretionary versus non-discretionary purchases. I just sold my used truck for 25% more than I paid for it 5 years ago (pre-COVID). Meanwhile, I also just sold a used electric guitar for exactly what I paid for it 5 years ago. Vehicles are non-discreationary items in America (you simply have to have one) while electric guitars are discretionary items (meaning nobody really NEEDS an electric guitar)....
