I think she must not have known what she wanted at the time of purchase and has changed her mind the closer it gets to the wedding. We haven't seen a bride yet hate a dress and buy it.🤔 Well, unless it was cheap.
@lindaliriel4 жыл бұрын
I nearly was that girl. My mum didn't want to come to my dress shopping (she wanted me to buy one in a wedding fair and I just didn't feel happy with that, also because she is very pushy). When I went to my first fitting she came alone with me to see it. She declared my dress made me look old and fat (I have a 20 BMI). She tried to guilt me into buying a different dress, one with little butterflies sown on top which I hated (ok for someone else, but NOT me) and ultimately I was brought to tears because I felt miserable in the dress she was pressuring me into. THANKFULLY I was already aware that my mum is on the narcissistic spectrum. I became angry when she acted like a victim the moment she noticed the shopkeepers disagreeing with her and looking at her for making me cry. I told her what she said was hurtful, although she of course denied even saying it, but everyone there heard her. I told them I was still going to get it, but she had messed with my mind enough for me to browse internet etc...ultimately none appealed to me as much as mine. Had I not realised my mum was on the spectrum, I might have ended up buying a cheap dress from that fair, or some horrible unflattering thing she "loved". Side note/happy ending: when I went to pay the final cost of my dress was MUCH lower than they had anticipated: they didn't make me pay for the fittings, the veil nor the custom bolero. I think the discount was their way of "hugging" me after that episode with her. I got married in MY dress, which my husband loved and which was a success for the people I care about. I didn't feel old, nor fat, nor a princess: I was a queen in my own right :)

"I'll cry if you walk down they aisle in that dress" Even though she redeemed her self in the end I would have lost it with my mom had she said that. I would probably have responded 'No worries Mom, no one will see you since you won't be there". I detest these bullying mothers who are either trying to relive their own wedding experience, playing dess up with the daughter for the last time, or just basically making the wedding all about them. That is why I am a strong advoate of the bride paying for her own dress and getting what makes her happy. I had a similar experience with my mom but it concerned my glasses. My parents retired a few states away and I went to visit them after about a 6 month absence. My mom was delighted to see me but hated the frames of my glasses. We have an excellent relationship, so I let it pass other than to tell her that I was sorry she felt that way because I liked them. But she wouldn't drop the subject to the point towards the end of my visit she said that when I returned for my next visit she hoped that she wouldn't be seeing those frames. I assured her she need not worry because she wouldn't be seeing them again. I was looking her straight in the eye and she got the point: I wouldn't be returning anytime soon. Her face fell and she apologized profusely. BTW I was in my 30's and the frames were typical of the style at that time, so they weren't outrageous. I should also say that she brought up the subject during the entire week long visit to the point that dad told her to stop and that if sll she had to complain about her daughter was her choice in frames for her glassess she really didn't have any complaints worth mentioning.
@narrationsworld25533 жыл бұрын

@interestedobserver-gk3ih3 жыл бұрын
@@narrationsworld2553 This was just the tip of the iceberg and the story went much deeper and was in essence an allegory to our actual relationship. My mom was a controlling helicopter mom who was always trying to manage my life and career. When she didn't get her way she would yell and scream at me then not speak to me for 10 days. She intimidated me and at times frightened me as a child and I had to fight to stand up for my self. She once told me that I might as well give in because she would nag me until I did. The message she recieved was accept me as I am and the decisions I make about my career and my person or I won't be back. It was a turning point in our relationship. I would always listen to her point of view but the final decision was mine and that she would have to accept it because I wouldn''t put up with her nagging, or her feroocious temper. I had a highly successful career that resulted in a lucrative retirement so I knew what I was doing. I worked in a highly technical field in management which she did not have a background in. I feel like when it comes to buying a wedding dress, you should get the one that you love and feel the most beautiful and confident in, you shouldn't get a dress that your family and friends love but you hate, because at the end of the day, it's your wedding and not theirs.

So true. A lot of time my husband will tell me he really likes an article of clothing that I'm wearing but don't really feel comfortable in for whatever reason. And sometimes I really love something he tells me "not so much" lol.

I would have loved to have seen the entire episode....no cutting of scenes or anything because as soon as the bride said, " I bought the dress because of you..." And the mom doesn't respond back..at all. Says a lot about their relationship...

I know everyone sees the second mom as mean, but coming from a family with extremely avoidant people, I wish that my mom was in touch with her feelings enough to tell me when she doesn't like things. It's so refreshing to not be forced to interpret odd body language and lack of enthusiasm to know if I look terrible in something.

I will never understand the obsession with having mom's approval on the most important dress of their life. If my mom hated a dress I fell in love with I'd just tell her "sucks to be you then, this is my dress."

Mothers should not be askedd what THEY want on a day like this. They had their day. And their likes and dislikes are not the same as the Bride. No person is the same , whether theyr ur blood or not. Bridal shops shouldnt give Mothers a choice invthis matter. Moms can view their opinions if asked and also be respectfull in how they say what. Its rubbish that Moms make this day so difficult for the Brides.

I’m married 36 years and I intentionally did not take my mother to buy my wedding gown all those years again and I would stand by that decision today you’ve got a remember people have their own motivations their own opinions and most people don’t know how to keep it to themselves especially parents go buy your wedding dress buy the one you like ignore any naysayers.

I am always so shocked with some of these Mothers! I thought I'd never be a bride, but I found my Prince Charming a month before lockdown this year, so it's been a different style of dating etc. Anyway we are engaged and I hope to go wedding dress shopping next year..... I know my Mum will be happy as long as I am, we are so close that she knows all of my body hang ups, and she would honestly tell me if she felt certain areas weren't flattering, but she would do it in a kind and honest way. I don't know if some of these mothers are asked to play up for the cameras, or are just rude, but they can ruin so much for a bride! X

She can speak her mind with no problems. Her mom doesnt seem pushy. For me, she is the one being unfair. She is giving her mom a heartache. If she planned to go with the flow with what her mom wants she shouldve just forget what she wants and not to speak of it ever again.
