I would have been blunt about the ring situation and tell Pat to never associate with me or my family again and threaten to file a report with the police. Hank needs a full redemption arc. Emotional distress, emasculation, and seeing that the US judicial system , whether it is for child support or divorces, isn't objectively fair. It goes by the biases of the judge. As a wedding photographer, I've only seen "they aren't going to last long" couples twice. The groom had depression just like this guy, but was also alienated by his own friends. The bride's actions made me uncomfortable and made for a dangerous environment. The story on Hank alone is something I can relate with Mr. Castro (the groom in my story).
