To suffer through what they went through, and to be given a chance at freedom only to choose to give it up to rescue men they felt responsible for their suffering on the single principle that it was the right thing to do. What a powerful choice. So beautifully written.
@snapgab
@snapgab Жыл бұрын
To be fair, it wasn't actually men they held responsible, Dalinar didn't use bridgemen and actually went out of his way to save them from Parshendi archers one time, Sadeas was responsible for their suffering, so they actually saved people who were hurt by the same tyrant as they were.

@@snapgab Yes, but they were still complicit in enabling the system that is the cause of their suffering. To Kaladin and his men, there is no difference. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” So the point stands, it was a powerful moment.

@@suzu8253 In a world like that you cannot think complicit in enabling the system. Thats something we as modern humans can think off, but the books are not in our time, our morals shouldnt be there in that way. But its an absolute show of bravery and integrity that they went to save them. But slavery were common in that world, even Kaladin dont frown at the whole slavery thing that much, even if he values life above all else.

@InsanitiesBrother 8 ай бұрын
@@sebastian114 Did you read the books? Kaladin and his men hated and blamed all light eyes. Sure they were conflicted a bit on some being worse than others. But they definitely saw Dalinar as complicit at this point in the story.

And holy hell 10 books in the series so if sanderson releases every part every 3 years that's 30 years of consecutive writing can't wait for this saga to end really really love this series.

I love Kaladin"s arc. I'm honestly glad it took him a while to grow to the point he could speak the 4th ideal. If it was easy it would mean less. The fact that he had to learn and grow as much as he did in order to say the word shows how much he's grown from the slave in the cart who was clutching a poison leaf
@Erick-tv8oq
@Erick-tv8oq Жыл бұрын
@@thematman92 Kaladin had to grow out of a fundamental character flaw that nearly killed him multiple times, and left him basically crippled and unable to emotionally heal. I think the reason why his slave scars never healed before the fourth ideal was because he subconsciously blamed himself for the deaths of Tien and his previous squad under Amaram, and refused to heal them as a sort of self inflicted punishment. A reminder of his 'sins'. By accepting that there are those he will not be able to protect, he essentially forgives himself, and lets go of the notion that everything of bad that happens to those he loves is his fault. Honestly, one of the most emotional moments in the series.

I felt so much more 'impact' from G.A. version then the Audible version narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. It is questionably borderline. It is a positive compilation where I attempt to induce Stormlight Nostalgia and promote Graphic Audio and their epic works! I try very hard to use very small pieces of book and I make sure that credit is given in every comment. I know from channel comments that many people are not aware of Graphic Audio and it makes me happy when they discover it here and are super excited! I sincerely believe this is a positive thing however I of course will remove the content if it were ever an issue. Enjoy while you can :)
