"You cannot have my pain" has to be the single most powerful line I've ever read in a book. Dalinar choosing to take responsibility is incredibly moving.
@unfire2 жыл бұрын
A close second I'd say. "You cannot have our sacrifice" by Mayalaran at the trial makes all the visions of the Knights shedding their shards bring up SOOO many questions for the lore of all the books to date. But I definitely had to grit my teeth at Dalanar's resolve.

What I love about this scene is that it does away with the whole "Someone else was controlling my actions" trope. Yes, Odium was influencing Dalinar, but Dalinar still CHOSE to do what he did and he CHOSE to take responsibility.
@althor12472 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the most you could say is that Odium made him more extreme, but Dalinar still would’ve done it, its his fault and that only elevates the character.
@mengobcknkmp2 жыл бұрын
Well I don't think it does away. Those are two different scenarios. In this case Dalinar is influenced, but there are cases when a person is actually being controlled by a bad guy.

"I know I messed up, but it never would have happened if so-and-so hadn't..." This is not true acceptance. Other people are always making mistakes and that will not change. But would it have happened if you had done what is right? What you knew, deep down, you should have done? Accept that you made a choice that led to a bad outcome, that it hurt yourself and others and it never would have happened if you had acted differently. This acceptance is healing because it means that you are no longer fighting to change an unchanging past by lying to yourself or focusing on details that aren't actually causing your guilt. Let the past be set in stone. It is whether you like it or not. Now focus on what you can change: the present. Let yourself feel the pain of the past so that it may stand in stark contrast to the person you are becoming. Every journey must have a beginning.
@ellysetaylor5908 Жыл бұрын
The journey. If you can't do it for yourself, do it for those that need you or who will need you when you've turned yourself around enough to be relied upon. These people will appear as you grow, but they need you to start now.

Are glory spren like spiritual spren or something?
@alexcavoli61912 жыл бұрын
They are cognitive beings, they form from actions and thoughts of sentient beings. They are more a story device to add to each scene. This one specifically shows how epic Dhalinar is by refusing odium. Glory Sprin are very rare seeing as true glory is rare. And to summon so many for a single act is well absolutely glorious. And it's the combined realms power that scares off the void sprin and Amararam not the glory sprin. They don't have an effect on things they are caused by them not the other way around.

I disagree. This is why I'm thankful you people aren't producers or writers on any of this shit. The idea of Odium's voice sounding old and frail works because he is this omnipotent father figure to those who suffer, but it works in contrast because he sounds weak as hell. His voice sounds like someone your bitch ass could take in the street. So, so thankful you fucking retards have no position to deliberate in a position of power on this matter.
