Correction. At 3:31 I say that you have 15 points, when you have 17. This doesn’t change the bidding. Also, at 7:55 I say that Partner knows you have 5+ Hearts. This is an error! Partner knows you have 4+ Hearts. My apologies.

Okay, i see where you explain replying 1s means 5 because if 4 & 4 in majors partner would have bid Hearts before Spades…. Thanks Jad

3:14 Rule applies a different criteria from lesson 7, where both level 2 and 3 can be carved out from 13-18 points. May I know if because its a minor suit thus only level 2 can be bid with 13-18 points?

Hi. The difference is that you are bidding a new suit: one that has not been bid by you or Partner previously. In that case 2 means 13-18 Points. If the suit has already been bid, then 2 means 13-15. The new suit bid gives you more room to find a fit.

Hello M Delokk, can you make a reverse bid with a 4 card major? Meaning I have 5 card minor and 4 card major and 17+points. Thank you
@jadbridge
@jadbridge 8 ай бұрын
Hi JD. Yes, you only need 4 hearts for the reverse bid. In the video, I imply 5, but that is not right. My apologies.

JD, I was working on a new video today and realised I forgot to mention something in my response to you. When you make a reverse bid, the number of cards you need depends on Partner’s bidding. If Partner’s bids tell you that they don’t have a particular biddable suit, then you DO need 5+ to make a reverse bid in that suit. This most often happens when they have bid 1NT. For example. You open 1H and they bid 1NT. You know they have at most 3 Spades. So, you need 5 to bid 2S. I hope that clarifies things.

Jad, at the 7:52 mark on deal 702 you say partner knows you have 17 pts and 5 hearts. If you can make a reverse with a 4 card major, how does partner know? And after you bid 1 diamond, Partner bids 1 spade denying a 4 card heart suit. I'm confused and trying to work this out with my bridge is for everyone partner.

Hi. Thanks for your comment. You are correct, you only promise 4 Hearts with your reverse bid. I have commented on this before, but will pin a comment to address my error. Apologies for this. So, let’s look at the bidding. After your opening bid of 1D, Partner bids 1S. If Partner has 5+ Spades, they can also have 4+ Hearts. Partner just needs to have more Spades than Hearts. So, this bid doesn’t deny 4+ Hearts. Next you bid 2H, showing 17+ points and 4+ Hearts (not 5 as I state). So, Partner’s Heart bid shows 4+ Hearts. I hope this ends the confusion caused by my error. Cheers.

When partner bids 1spade in reply to your 1 heart isn’t partner denying 4 hearts?

Hi Jab, Can you please explain the rule at3:14 regarding a rebid of a minor suit you need 13-18 pts, but at 6:42, a rebid of 2H, the points requirements is different 17-21pts. Is it because it is a rebid of a new major suit not a rebid of a minor suit
@sophiekong
@sophiekong 8 ай бұрын
Hi Jab, I finally understand why it needs 17 points. It is because because we need at least 17 points to make a reverse bid. Thank you very much.

12:31 Can you agree that any 5 cards major should always be opened over a longer minor (over-riding the opening the longest suit rule)?
@jadbridge
@jadbridge 10 ай бұрын
Hi again. No, I don't agree. In the example in the video, you only have 14 points and your major suit is Hearts. If you have 18+ Points, always open the longer minor because you are strong enough to bid the major suit at the 2 level if necessary. This is shown in the previous example in the video. When you have less than 18 Points the need to pretend that the minor suit is shorter is most important if your major suit is Hearts. That is because Partner is quite likely to respond with 1S and put you in a difficult situation. If your major suit is Spades, you can still bid 1S if Partner responds 1H. I should add here that a 1NT response by Partner is rarely a problem because it is narrowly defined and you almost certainly have a fit in the minor suit. This area can be tricky and you will need to use your judgement. Good luck.

Hi Jad, considering your response about the major suit being spades, does a reverse bid (as below) still need 17+ points by the Opener? (You do say the need to pretend equal length spades and a minor suit is not so important as with major Heart suit and a minor) bidding sequence: Opener 1 D Responder 1H Opener 1S, Here The responder can answer at the 2 and not the dangerous 3 level.

Why did u say south has only 15 points on her second bid? Doesn’t she have 17? I know it makes no difference in how she bids but i’m wondering why u say 15 points.?

Hi. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It’s a mistake. I should say 17 points. I will pin a comment to address the error and also change the subtitles. Thanks again.
