I really love that this channel is just as helpful to me as it is to my friend, who has only just started riding. Even higher-level concepts are broken down in a way that riders who are just starting their riding journey can understand them and look ahead to what's coming. My friend is still steering mainly with the inside rein, but we're talking about the idea of turning with the outside rein so she doesn't learn bad habits like I did haha I need to try thinking of my reins like this next time I ride!

The poor horses I ride where I get my lessons have been suffering with my bad hands and being unbalanced. This should help me maintain my train tracks😊

having similar issues at times when she feels heavier on the left rein. This is a great explanation for me how to counteract it..thanks! . Having watched the video with Sigita riding Gee I remember you saying also that when the left rein is heavy then the opposite hind leg is not as active as the other. (I think!) That would make perfect sense in my mares case as she gashed her knee a couple of months ago and was out of work for some time...she tends to do this when. getting tired.

❤ your passion & heart. Give horse something to lean on (leg or hand) they will. So simple but hard to “always” follow 😊

Thank you both great explanation liked the physical demo , spot on more visual easy to follow, and yes that half halt , I can see that being crucial to balance the horse and help him understand what’s going on , thanks guys xx

My trainer, and others I've seen, periodically drop the inside rein (usually pet the neck). I understand that it's a check that the horse is tucked into the outside rein, but also (not sure on this), it's a reward.

This has helped with his wooden neck. Noticeably softer thru his neck by using this technique.

The timing of this post is uncanny as I have sore shoulders from riding this weekend. I was riding a new school horse in my lesson and I suspect he was heavy in one rein over the other. Shall definitely play with this when I next ride him.
