Driving the Icefeild Parkway just two weeks before the fires, I was shocked by the amount of standing beetle kill I saw, and had to explain what it was to my girlfriend who had never seen it before. The scale of this fire was entirely preventable, and the responsibility lies solely on the mismanagement of the Federal govt who mismanaged the forests around Jasper since you do not see that many beetle killed trees standing outside of the park, or on the other side of the provincial border in the Mt Robson region less than 45 min drive away.

One thing that is constant, or worse over time is bureaucratic incompetence coupled with arrogance. I have seen this manifest over and over again in the past 50 years of my life. Further, after many years of contracting to and working in the federal government... I have seen lazy, arrogant, incompetent again and again. It predates DEI, but it is a close relative. Qualifications, beyond being bi-lingual, do matter. Work Attitude and Work Ethic do matter. Th federal government incompetence disease will never get eradicated. The monster is just to large for that to ever happen. Standards are low and the beast is so large that the disease will never be eradicated. These employees, include those who work at home and judge their own productivity as being great!!! DUH!!!!!!

Bring back the BEAVERS and broad leaf tree fire barriers, such as Maples and of course, poplar and aspen for beaver food. Swamps and wetlands created by beavers, protect, or use to protect great swathes of forest in Canada.....Trapping and clear cutting has doomed our forests.
