When Daphne did that in the show I was INFURIATED and I didn't understand why it was such a big deal because she didn't even allow him to speak but r@ping him legitimately IN THE BOOK?? What is wrong with Daphne??? All she had to do was ask him what he meant by "can't have kids" and none of this would have happened

I enjoyed the Bridgerton books but the first one is my least favorite, bc of Simon’s deception for one, but most importantly bc of what Daphne did! It’s way worse in the book than in the show! Her inner monologue during those scenes was pure psycho

So true! And then they framed it like she wasn't in the wrong for r-wording him!! Like she was justified and then it all just works out. Like it was total gaslighting for poor Simon. After the show aired, I was surprised in this day and age, with younger generations being all for "me too" and consent for everything, there was 0 talk about this being wrong or weird at least!

(I haven’t read the books, and after hearing how worse “it” was I don’t know if I want to.) For sure their deception and manipulation of each other is horrible, BUT i still say so far Simon and Daphne are my favorite couple because of their immediate chemistry and friendship. I enjoyed their banter in the show and it sounds good in the book based on this video. They’re messy and I would have liked them to have communicated better before things got ugly but it seemed to work out in the end. But after hearing how worse the whole…thing with the forcing was in the book…now I feel crappy that my favorite couple is kinda ruined. Like they worked it out but…still.

In the series first season, it's Lady Whistledown who declares Daphe a diamond, not the Queen. The Queen simply says she's flawless. I never read the books, so I don't know if the Queen uses that phrase from the beginning. But in the series the Queen only uses that word about the girls, AFTER Lady Whistledown has declated Daphe a diamond in the first season.
