I struggled with anxiety during pregnancy. Here’s how I overcame it!
✅ FREE Mini Birth Class - www.builttobirth.com/free-min...
As a first time mom, I was so excited to give birth but I was also sort of scared about birth and the unknowns I faced. When I was giving birth for the second time, much of my anxiety came from work and uncertainty over caring for two during the postpartum period.
In this video, I’m sharing with you how I prepared for labor and delivery by strengthening my positive mindset and finding anxiety relief.
In this video, I share how I overcame my fears (specifically about tearing during birth). Listening to positive birth stories helps prepare you for your own positive birth story, affirmation meditations/hypnobirthing prepares your mind for childbirth, and more.
If this is your first time pregnancy and scared to have a baby for the first time or if you’ve experienced birth trauma in the past, this video is going to give you ideas on how to navigate those fears and anxieties to prepare for your happier, healthier, and easier birth.

I gave birth six days ago to my precious son (I’m a first time mom)!! I did your online birth course during pregnancy and it was so helpful! I had such a positive birth experience at a birth centre with a midwife (not a hospital), vaginal delivery, fully unmedicated! It’s amazing what a woman’s body can do!

I'm almost 40 weeks and just always feeling like it could happen anytime is overwhelming. I've watched Bridget through 2 pregnancies and her videos always bring me peace of mind and feel confident with the information that she provides. At this point I'm not so much anxious about the actual birth, but the waiting for the labor process to progress. I've been dealing with a lot of prodromal labor so this video has perfect timing during this time of trying to distract through early labor. At this point it may be my body but I'm definitely not steering the ship at this point, my baby is 😅

Hang in there through the prodromal labor!!! I had that for two weeks with my first… but when I finally did go into labor it was fairly quick for a first labor/delivery (or so I was told by my midwife!) it can be exhausting and discouraging!! But keep your heart in the right place and trust your body that you WILL know when they get past that certain intensity that it is the real deal!!! No one I knew had experienced prodromal labor and they thought it was false labor/Braxton hicks contractions and I got so tired of explaining that they were NOT the same thing. Mine would always gear up in the evening and go all night and morning sometimes 14 hours straight- it was exhausting! Hang in there mama!! Your baby will be here soon!!! My son was born at 41 weeks!

Just took the free Mini Birth Class. Wish I had discovered YOUR course before I purchased another one. :-( There's nothing WRONG with the one I bought, and it HAS been beneficial for a first-time mom! However, yours seems SO MUCH MORE organized, informative and resourceful for ALL the stages; Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum. And way more accessible in a variety of ways! My husband came across your channel early in my pregnancy and I subscribed, but between nausea, stress and overwhelm, I didn't watch much of your videos as I tried to concentrate on ONE source of info at a time. Now being 37+3 I find myself even more anxious not having practiced 'enough' or educated myself 'enough', going to quick videos of guidance to help practice & solidify my breathing, calming techniques, and even more education (especially about preventing tearing etc). Throughout this pregnancy journey, I feel like I have missed so much info and education and not for lack of trying, just debilitating nausea, stress & anxiety. All that to say, I am thankful for your channel. Even though it may be too late to purchase your course, I really appreciate the free content you provide for tips & guidance to navigate throughout this journey. Praying for a more calming, natural and healthy labor, birth & postpartum journey!

Your advice on breathing and affirmations proved to be exactly what I needed for my labor and delivery five weeks ago. This was my SIXTH baby, and I was counting on all my experience from my previous natural births to carry me through. At full-term, I was miserably uncomfortable, and I tried twice to induce my labor naturally through a method that had always worked for me, but it didn’t work with this baby. Baffled, I looked for advice and found your channel. I truly believe God led me to exactly what I needed, and through your videos, I realized that even with all my experience, I was subconsciously nervous about giving birth again, and reluctant to experience the pain again (even though all my births had been positive experiences). After several sessions alone in my room with your affirmation mediations and breathing practice, I finally felt in the RIGHT head (and heart) space for birth. It was wonderful to feel so prepared and at peace. The very next night, I went into labor, and it was my best birth experience yet! (By choice, I labored peacefully alone through the night, woke up my husband right before transition, and he caught our baby almost exactly an hour later, right before our midwife arrived! It was amazing!!) I’ve felt so grateful for the resources you’ve provided through your channel, and will wholeheartedly recommend you to friends. Thank you so much!

I’m so glad there’s someone on here that has had multiple births. I’m having my 5th baby, and I have only gone through one unmedicated birth, and I had to be induced. It was a miserable and terrifying experience, and I never wanted to do it again. However, after watching many of these videos, I want to try again, hoping this baby will come naturally on his own! I’m praying for it. I’m just barely 36 weeks. I’ve been practicing my breathing because I often times find myself holding my breath when I’m stressed. I hope it helps in the long run, but I’m still nervous.

I had slight tearing during my second birth and when the nurse offered to put a stitch in it I said no thanks, and it healed up nicely by itself. During my first birth only 10 months earlier I had a large episiotomy and lots of of stitches that went all the way inside. It took many months for them to heal and I swore never again. I had 4 kids and no tearing or stitches with the last two.

Getting an epidural is okay. Particularly if you're already in active labor (like 4-5 cm) the chance of it causing other complications is pretty low. You can refuse most other interventions, assuming there's nothing wrong.

The main thing I'm afraid of in regards to me is the pain. Both pregnancies I've been through I've had the absolute worst back labor. The pain is so bad I cannot escape the anxiety. With this third pregnancy I know that I'll most likely have that horrible back labor but I'm going to move that thinking to only a possibility. I'm thinking very positively the last birth I couldn't make it through without getting pain medication in the end. I am going to try even harder this time around. I know how my body works and what I'm capable of. I'm preparing and have been since I found out that I'm pregnant even if I don't have that good of a support system. I am a strong person. 🧘‍♀️

:( sorry to hear that, I’d encourage you to seek out some birth stories that are labeled positive - even watch a few real births like water births to help you get a more realistic and healthy mindset on labor and delivery.. tv will often show a horror story for birth and even the way babies and children are depicted is pretty poor.. they won’t show the calm, the beautiful and deep moments.. it doesn’t make tv if a women isn’t screaming at her man - thats what people expect because that’s what’s shown .. but really your labor is super tied into what makes you you.. not all women scream and labor doesn’t have to be earth shattering.. you really can have that protected space and make it what you want it if you work together.. this was something that really helped me check out mighty mamas virtually pain free birth - watch the free video - that alone was super eye opening and gave me so much courage!

I found the breathing exercises extremely helpful and calming as well..

You are definitely not a loser. I have had 4 babies and 3 were with epidurals, and they were all beautiful experiences. And like you said, you had your baby and that’s all that matters. It’s all a choice, right? Some people more at peace with the medicine and intervention of doctors. I honestly did. But with my 5th and last pregnancy, I want to try the other way and see how they goes. It just a choice. Not trying to “be a hero” or whatever. 🙂 So don’t worry about what way you choose. It’s yours alone and no one should make you feel less because you chose differently.

The interventions that come with an epidural make me feel uncomfortable (i.e. supplemental drugs with the epidural, urinary catheter, IV catheter) -- What is funny and also confuses my partner of my feelings about an epidural is that I'm a nurse. I frequently insert IVs, and urinary catheters, administer drugs,.... I just don't (think) I want it for myself. I can support patients all day who need these things but when it comes to me, I am honestly terrified. It's funny, right? I'm not closed off about epidurals but being on the fence and not knowing what I want for myself is what is giving me anxiety.

I had an epidural with my first and the interventions that come with it as you said were honestly the worst in recovering from than the actual birth. My urethra was on fire to pee for days and the constant baby monitoring band on my stomach gave me a terrible rash. Next baby, I'm skipping the epidural for these reasons

@@Koreacasian oh my goodness! Thank you so much for your input! I always love hearing others’ REAL experiences of the aftermath. Im sorry tho that you didnt have such a great experience tho. I find it interesting that the continuous baby monitoring is a deal breaker for going unmedicated next time. I like how thats a simple factor tho and agree withyou. There are just too many tubes and cords that have to be hooked up to you, it isnt ideal. On top of painful urination. Bummer.

@@jazellegeotina3995 Yes, exactly, too many cables and tubes... that's why I'm planning to have my second at home. Even though going without pain meds is scary, I do believe the labor will go smoother, faster, and safer as I trust my body to do what it is supposed to. Plus, nowadays hospitals are so quick to do a c-section and I'm adamant about natural vaginal birth.

I’m a nurse as well! I did end up getting an epidural late in labor at the very strong encouragement of staff. Did not enjoy the experience of it. Dropped my blood pressure, couldn’t move, struggled to push effectively, and so on. I really wish I hadn’t and I’m planning to never use one again (unless surgery is needed for safety). But I have had friends with great experiences as well, so whatever choice you make is the right one!

Hi Bridget ! Thank you so much for your advices. I actually have a concern during labor, when only the Head is out, how much time can the baby resist in that situation ? I remember you said that in your first delivery the doctor hastened and turned the baby's head in order to take her out. I actually don't want this to happen to me... Yet, I would like to know What's the maximum duration the baby's head can be like 'stuck' there. Please let me know

My last labor with a midwife I got my daughters head out during 1 contraction and waited until the next contraction to push her body (probably a minute or 2 between) she was fine and the midwife was even talking to her and saying she was blinking and looking around. As long as there's no cord around the neck and no distress in mom or baby, in my experiance, it's not a concern. Baby is already head out so next contraction baby will come :)

I believe there is only distress when/if babies shoulders get stuck. You can switch positions to help this too and it is not always necessary for them to help turn/pull baby out. In a hospital setting the latter will be far more common unfortunately…. Because of their nicu protocol and such. My son was yanked out of me and it was super traumatic. But with my daughter, I had a home water birth and she flew out in one/two pushes in literally under a minute- All that to say!! don’t stress about it and let your fears/wishes be known to your birthing team so they will make it a priority to get you in a good position or switch positions if possible before resorting to pulling/turning if necessary!!♥️♥️

In my experience ( pregnant with my 5th) once the head is out the next contraction comes really fast and that baby is out! Every woman is different but I feel like the head is the hard part once it's out you really don't have time to think about the rest.

Hi Bridget! I hope this comment finds its way to you. Our son came 8 weeks early, he is healthy and strong the NICU right now. We were not perceiving complications to our birth, and I was surprised to be having a premature birth especially two months before due date. Anyways, we had the best preemie hospital birth which I credit to God. But I also think God lead me to watch your videos. The hospital didn’t break my water, let me give birth not on my back. We also somehow got away with not pushing for 6hours when I was FULLY dilated and had a vaginal birth without interventions. It was the grace of God, but also from watching your videos, I had the guts to communicate what I wanted. I don’t know how many people you get to hear from, but thanks. You helped make my birth experience a positive one :)

Know that every labor and delivery is it’s own unique experience!! I’m so sorry that happened for you!! I had a similar experience with my first but my second was all the redemption I needed and I just believed in myself and my body and my baby and I kid you not I would do her birth a thousand times over!! It was so beautiful!! Yours will be too!! I watched a lot of Bridget’s videos again in preparation and I think that helped me let go of a lot of that trauma and not carry it into the next birth! I wanted this one to stand apart and there was no reason to bring negative energy into that space because it wasn’t helpful or good for me or baby! You’ve got this mama!!

Hi Bridget. I was due 2 days ago and my fear is my labor will go too fast. My husband works an hour away, babysitter for my other kids is half hour away, and the birth center is another hour drive after they all get here. This is baby number 5 (baby 4 I went from no pain to calling midwife in the car 15 minutes later saying i wasnt sure if we were going to make it the hour drive to the birth center- labor stalled in the car so we made it but she was born 2 hours after that call). I've talked to my midwife about a fast labor and what to do if babe is coming in the car but it's still nerve wrecking at this point if babe comes before hubby gets home. I know likely before you see this I may have already had my baby, but thinking maybe another mama may have a similar concern and what should a mama do if shes at home alone and baby decides to come?

I had a precipitous labor with my last baby and I caught her standing in my living room. As soon as I accepted the circumstances and pushed back the anxiety it was the most peaceful beautiful experience I've ever had. Sometimes we make plans and God laughs. Things happen how they're meant to and now I'm due any day with the next one ☺️ this one will be an intentional homebirth. 😅 You will be great, and so will your baby. A healthy baby is what really matters. Sometimes we detour from the route we planned, but we still make it to the same destination.

I was going to say, prep everything you can in case you have an accidental homebirth/free birth! Just talk it through with your midwife all the things you might need and look up everything you can to be prepared!! Maybe see if your baby sitter can come hang out during the day to help with the kids and if you feel anything happening that might relieve some of your anxiety about it! Home births on purpose or on accident are usually some of the most peaceful and amazing experiences!!! ♥️ you got this mama!!! And who knows!! Every labor is different so maybe you’ll have a lot more time this time!!♥️

Well my baby came 10 days after his due date and yes it was super fast! Woke up to my Water breaking at 2am and immediatly went into transition, woke my preteen daughter to let her know we called the sitter but we had to leave now! We not intentually hit/nearly hit several animals, and ran a red light as I started pushing in the car. Made it to the birth center but nearly had him on the stairs going to the room. Total time from water break to baby out was 3 hours.

My due date is Aug 17 but due to me having pelvic girdle pain, I decided I want to get induced and that will be at 39 weeks. This is my second pregnancy but I am feeling more nervous this time around because of the pelvic pain. I’ve been watching your videos which have helped be more calm but I am so nervous of the pelvic pain being more intense at birth that I won’t be able to go natural without the epidural. Have you had any mommas that had pelvic girdle pain and how was it for them during labor and delivery? Any tips on what I can do during labor to manage both the pelvic pain and contractions at the same time?
@14sierranicole

I had PGP during my second pregnancy and I didn’t notice any difference than with my first! I had two natural births one hospital and the last one home water birth! If you’re induced that might(I’m not speaking from medical knowledge just assumptions) make it more noticeable because your body might not be ready for labor and delivery yet- so it might be more strenuous on your body! But idk! If you’re using an OB I recommend finding a midwife to speak with about it! Because typically (in my experience OB/Gs kind of fear monger- it’s just their field unfortunately- not always but often- so just be aware and do a lot of research ♥️)

@@vanessaandrade6300 have you tried any kind of KT tape? Or any kind of belly band to help lift some of the pressure off your pelvis? - I had an awful reaction to KT tape BUT it was worth it some days to relieve the shooting pain. Maybe see if you can find a belly band with support- I can’t think of what it’s called right now… and I know sometimes swimming and other forms of gentle exercise can help!! But it’s kind of just a guessing game for each individual!! And go with your mama gut girl!! I was definitely just throwing my two cents in there! And again that had no medical research behind it at all!! I just know generally when being induced it’s harder on your body overall!! But you’re not weak for possibly having to chose that!!! At all! You have to make the decision best for you and your baby and reserve the strength you do have for birth♥️

@@14sierranicole I have not tried the kt tape but I have been wearing a belly band. I’ve also done physical therapy and been seeing a chiropractor. My provider suggested to take physical therapy again which I’m planning on doing it because it did help me. I just struggle so much when I get out of bed that I have to use a walker to assist myself getting up and to walk the first couple steps. Other than that I can manage the pain through out the day for most part. Hopefully with physical therapy and having a positive attitude( which I’ve been lacking) I can make through the pregnancy
