Ive been waiting for 20 years for real time ray tracing. "Lighting" has always been the key for photorealism. So CLOSE! maybe 2 or 3 more generations of cards and we'll have 100% ray traced lighting in games that run 60+FPS.

what i also love about this is the realistic camcorderesq post fx looks wonderful. its just peak aesthetic and graphics together in a almost a decado old pc runing in realtime yet we dont get none of it in the current day, not even a demo

@HaloBaller9813 anything that uses DX12 can use RT core acceleration. As long as the programmer know how to code for it.

@HaloBaller9813 Ray tracing is an umbrella term, as any technique that traces rays to render an image. Path tracing is a part of it as well: NVidia RTX just abstracts intersecting rays with the scene, it's up to you which rays you trace and how you interpret the result.

How is that possible? On the geforce gitan presentation, they use 30 geforce titan in sli mode to render the transformer in real time, wich hardware was used here?

@@sasaha8389 What casts and recieves rays? A path tracer emits rays from the camera and tries to find emitters, are you confusing photon mapping or Bidirectional path-tracing?. RTX is helpful because it has hardware BVH acceleration.

I know how to get the graininess to go away. 1. Some sort of anti-aliasing 2. Blur effects 3. Depth of Field 4. Lower pixel counts 5. All of the above

Es posible saber con que grafica se a utilizado, y cuando saldria una demo?. Tambien estoy interesado que ande en amd radeon si es posible. De momentos no sabemos nada y si andara con amd seria unos de los pocos motores de render que funcionaran bien asi que espero su respuestas. Gracias

It has the same problem as all the nice GTA mods... Reflections on cars arent that shiny, except all cars would be fresh cleaned and waxed all the time. Also rain on a street has a mirror effect, but nowhere would it look like that. Its all just too flashy and shiny to be real life like....

The goal of this video is to provide a technical proof of concept of real time ray tracing. Who cares of reflection intensity, that's something adjustable in a second time. This tech demo was supercool for that time and still it is today.

Morph Verse Nvidias RT cores can probably be used to accelerate this though, possibly fast enough to make there be almost no noise at all real time.

@@Zoza15 this is running on a GPU. In fact, GPUs are much better at this than CPUs. RTX should definitely help for this, as it introduces some of the calculations done here as standard features. It won't be fully realtime yet, especially at higher resolutions, but I'm curious to see what RTX can do here.

It's a bug with the graphics engine due to the fact that real time path tracing is a newer technology.

NovaXP It's not a bug as such, more do do with the demo computer not being fast enough to fully trace a frame in an short enough time to not notice.

Not a bug. If the developers set the number of rays up there would be no graininess but it would drop from 30fps to 15

@@CianMcsweeney You need hundreds to thousands of rays/pixel to reduce noise to almost nothing. Denoisers are the way to go.

@@SerBallister nah not hundreds of thousands, thousands, that's been my experience from using programs like Blender, also please keep in mind that I wrote my initial comment 4 years ago, before any talk of using AI accelerated denoisers really existed

Raytracing has been around since the '60s, it just took 70 hours to render a single frame with two spheres

Patent pending? How can you patent ray tracing, it's not even your idea? Or is it just your particular algorithm you are trying to patent? In that case, very poor wording on your part.

TheComputadude hate the game, not the player. the patent system should change instead of us being annoyed at people who take advantage of it whilst it's refusing to change with the times.
