This mower came in with a few issues. I disconnected the throttle cable, replaced the diaphragm, tuned it up and adjusted the idle (a couple of times) A tune up of course.

Good, simple and quick fix Bruce. I keep a couple of those diaphragm kits for those crabs on hand. It never fails one will come in when the parts store is closed and you need the parts to get an easy fix out of the way and get the customer back in business. That particular Briggs engine was one of their best and durable made. Have good one Inspector Gadget.

I think the briggs pulsa prime is a great little engine and design. Simple & durable, especially if one uses non-ethanol fuel. So easy to work on. The only real problem is usually that carb diaphragm which is easy to diagnose, and quick & cheap to fix.

Our repair inventory is flip flopped. I always get way more riding mowers than push mowers. Good thing too....lol. As you well know....steering wheels over handles! I use cable clips or Velcro wire wraps to hold the safety handle. A little faster. Cheers my good Friend! Sean~

I've had that hook bind before too! I scribe a line in the aluminum at the back edge andI always file a little of the carb's mating surface off along the back edge ,where the diaphragms always suck inward from (1) being the farthest span between screws and (2)folks tightening the air filter screw like it is a headbolt! Haha! My favorite carbs though. Sounds great!👍

Sometimes when they are running without the filter installed they will suck gas out of the filter hold down screw hole, especially if the tank is full. The hole is open into the tank and the motor can get too much fuel. Just run the screw into the hole without the filter to be sure it doesn't. I wash and clean the filter first thing and it is nice and dry by the time I need it.
@BrucesShop7 жыл бұрын
Yes the older ones were worse for that, The auto chokes actually had a hole right through to the bottom sucking pure air. Thanks for the great comment. You are right on these too.

i put direct throttle to my briggs and stratton engines. get rid of the governor and only use wot on a thick patch of overgrowth or drop it to a low lumpy idle while trimming the lawn. I drilled out the baffle. I'll take it out for a walk and mow a few spots that are often left untouched for years

@BrucesShop7 жыл бұрын
I use a small amount of gas. I can't say you should though. I don't put oil on them. I had a lawn mower last for 27 years with a foam filter. I have a dusty big yard too. By the way it was running when I sold it.
@Cragified7 жыл бұрын
I miss the pulsa-prime classics even if they where under powered for anyone that didn't mow religiously. So simple, reliable, and easy to work on. For some reason even if you didn't oil the foam filter they seemed to oil it themselves through the crankcase breather ;) I still have a 20" Murray built in 1987 that's the reliable fall back when the ones I pick up for free finally give up their last. To bad it has a 100 thousand bent crank and the wheels aren't adjustable, no bagging or mulch, or I'd use it all the time. Those old classics could take abuse and last. Tecumseh and the B&S 600-700 series not so much. To often they never had their oil maintained and the rod sleeve wears and it's not worth replacing cranks and rods in them, just add a little oil thickener and use them till they blow.

If anyone has this engine and it surges and wont run smooth and right, especially if a new gasket set has been put on , these plastic carburetors warp on the engine side mounting surface and either have to be replaced or you can sand that mounting side down as flat as possible and add SEAL ALL Sealant or a PERMATEX gas resistant sealant to the machined surfaces when putting a new gasket on and a tiny smear on the gaskets also. SEAL ALL sealant >>(resistant to gasoline, oil, paint thinner, and most solvents. Seal-All is also water resistant immediately upon application Sets in 2-3 minutes. Fully cures in 2-6 hours) The gaskets can be bought at most major car parts stores--eBay also for under $5

How long do those diaphragms usually last, I have a 4 year old 3.5HP B&S engined mower, and it's sometimes grumpy starting, air filter is clean, oil is new, gas is fresh, figure it's either the spark plug or the diaphragm needs replacing.... Once it's going it seems to be OK.....
@BrucesShop7 жыл бұрын
There are OEM diaphragms and then there are aftermarket ones. I am sure the OEM ones last longer. I use both and there is a difference. If the mower is a beater (like a $40 mower) I will use an aftermarket. Then I have the B&S one for good tune ups. That is a confession sir.

Hey Bruce . Do some of these motors have a metal main jet inserted in the plastic under the screen? It's my first time working on a Briggs with a plastic carb. After I took it apart there was a little metal piece left over. It looks like it could be a jet with the small hole it has through the middle?

You carb will be different than these. In the video attached go to the 26 minute spot and see the rod coming out from under the rewind housing. That is for the throttle on the carb. Easiest way on these now is buying the carb and gas container preassembled on eBay or Amazon for 30 bucks. takes off the old bad carb and tank and install the new one. Of course unless the extra 15.00 dollars won't break your bank of course. The only reason I said this is sometimes you get a bad diaphram like I did and by the time I bought the next ket I was already out 30 So for me lesson learned
@BrucesShop6 жыл бұрын
Yes that is right if you are only doing 1 or 2 or on the other hand charging higher shop rate to pay for the parts. I would probably use 4 or 5 a month. If you are charging shop rate you can't afford fiddling around like I do, You have to get it done right away. I don't have a problem with shop rate but the whole idea of my channel is to fix things as inexpensively as possible. Sorry for the ramble haha

@@BrucesShop OK, been many years since my 92902 days. Wondering why that extra tiny governor spring is needed. Also trying to figure out just how that primer works. There is not fuel in the little pick up tank on top after cleaning, so forcing air through there won't do much. I guess the air from the primer is directed to the diaphragm which picks the fuel up the long pick up tube, dumps it in the little tank, then forces it up through the carb nozzle pick up....
