Briggs & Stratton 17.5hp Intek Engine Tear-Down | Thrown Rod Cause of Failure?

In this video i teardown a Briggs Intek engine that was unfortunately fairly new at the time it failed.

ABOUT ME - I am Mike, 27 and have spent my entire life dedicated to all things Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE for short) , i began this lifelong journey when i was only 3 years old, i found OPE fascinating, comforting and extremely fun. I legit grew up in a greasy garage working on lawn mowers :) i spent 21 years working out of a garage (with no heat or air conditioning, just a big ole' fan) next to my house (my childhood home in the city and now current home somewhat out in the sticks ) and turned my lifelong hobby into a legit business in July of 2016 - it has always been my biggest dream to own an OPE sales & service center at a commercial location - that came true in August of 2020 when i bought my 1,800 sq.ft heated & cooled dream shop situated on 1 acre of industrial/commercial multi-use land. It has been a wild ride and continues to be as i am one of the only and VERY reputable shop's in my area. I have been #1 recommended for 4 years straight. It is enjoyable at times and miserable at times running your own OPE sales & service center - but i love it regardless :) I am certified by all four major small engine manufactuers and i am an Authorized Servicing Dealer and Authorized Service Center for MANY different brands. I may not put out many videos and there will be times where i don't upload for months on end - hey i'm busy - as long as the grass is green and the sun is hot - there's a broken lawn mower headed my way. Dangit!! You cut the video at EXACTLY the point where I needed to see how the governor comes out! Mine was knocking badly but nothing was broken, the rod bolts had come loose (or maybe weren't tightened), but I shut it off before anything actually broke. Cheaper to replace the rod (cylinder is pristine) amd even the crank if necessary, than to buy a new engine. But FIRST I have to remove the brass governor sleeve/bushing and NOBODY shows how. Could you please take a minute and describe how?? Thanks!

Did you find out?? My dad wants me to fix a 16hp Wich suddenly made some bad noises and shut off and now he says it sounds like it has no compression and also that it sounds like it keeps spinning around after he lets go of the starter button. In all fairness I'm not keen to do the job but I'm at least gonna have a look before I recommend him to buy a Chinese knock 9ff engine for 450usd.

Question I have same engine if I don’t run it at full throttle is that better for engine or does it cause a dramatic loss in air cooling

What oil would you recommend for that type of motor? I have a 2010 lawn tractor and I used 5w30 synthetic and it's burning oil, I was wondering if I should use thicker oil. Thanks.

5w30 is too thin, in a Briggs if temps are above 40F outside ambient, use only 30W and nothing else but straight 30W small engine oil.
