It is very easy to remove head without undoing the valve rockers! Just unbolt the head and pull the stem and head as one piece. Make sure you note that the stems are not identical! The steel one is the exhaust and the aluminum being intake. Be sure to always install the stem the same way it came out do not flip it end for end. It would still function but if there were any wear that was matched it is always better to install as it came out. Still check valve clearance. Gor those without inch pound torque wrench it equal 14-18 ft lbs of torque

THANK YOU so much for making this video! My local 🚜 dealer wanted almost $500 to do this exact same job. Thanks to your video I ordered the things I needed and had your video for guidance every step of the way. And I really appreciated your providing all the torque specs for all the bolts. A couple of other DIY videos indicated they liked to add Permatex copper Spray-A-Gasket to the new head gasket, so I added that to all 3 gaskets (head, rocker arm cover, & exhaust) and I'm glad I did (I put one small scratch in the head scraping off the old gasket material and the copper spray gave that gasket just a little extra for that imperfection in the surface of the head). Another user showed a great way to gently but effectively remove all the material the razor blade can't get off: spraying the surfaces with WD-40 (or an engine cleaner) and using 400 grit sand paper to wet sand the remaining material off. That really helped get what scraping alone couldn't. Can't thank you enough for making this video! As Red Green says, "If the women don't find you handsome, at least they should find you handy!".
@StephenSmith-it5zy6 ай бұрын
I sanded with 400 grit and WD too. Worked perfectly. No smoke and only spent $50 for gaskets (head and valve cover), oil, and new air filter. Runs perfectly.

a friend of mine bought a brand new zero turn mf riding lawn mower and only got 2.5 seasons out of it before the head gasket went . the warranty ended 3 months prior and the place " kmk sales " would not help . not good people . so now the owner has to haul the mower 80 miles to the nearest dealer to see if they'll actually be able to get a warranty on an obviously defective part . its obvious the part was designed to fail to make someone gain wealth .

I'm back here after doing this in July 2018 to refresh my memory on the torque specs. Can't complain the job lasted 6 years (did not use an OEM gasket-Ebay). Good luck to y'all out there doing this, very simple if you follow these instructions and it works.

This was a great video. I was able to completely disassemble and reassemble in one afternoon. I would only recommend converting inch-pounds to foot-pounds because most torque wrenches come in foot-pounds. Thank you for a clear and easy to follow video!
@danbell38274 жыл бұрын
Most 3/8 drive torque wrenches are set in In-lbs. The problem with Ft-lbs is the numbers are way too low. Most 1/2" wrenches won't go below 30-40 ft-lbs, and even the ones that do are likely not accurate that low. 150 in-lbs is only 12.5 ft-lbs. For torquing wheels, suspension parts, etc you want the bigger wrench, but you need a smaller one for a lot of things, too. Worst case, the conversion isn't exactly hard, either. Just divide by 12.

These are known to blow head-gaskets based on how they are designed with bolts being so far apart at the exhaust stroke part of the piston/head. So I want to make sure it's tight enough. First time around one of the bolts broke so i bought brand new ones (8) and they were a bit different ... tad bit longer, larger flange on bolt-top and they had 5 tick marks on the head bolt instead of 3. So was that a 5 grade-bolt upgraded to a 7? thanks a ton in advance!!!!!!!!
