Morning from Texas T-Bone. I hope you read the comments on the old videos. This was very helpful. Think I fixed every other potrential cause for "gas in the oil" before seeing the video. Learning alot. I am also firing up my KZbin channel (Boomer Bloc) where I hope to do some small engine repair. Will always reference your videos. Happy Holidays!

Wow--my Deere L118 started smoking yesterday and oil was everywhere. I checked the oil and found it was way overfull, so I knew right away gas was getting into the oil and diluting it. The oil I drained out was very thin and full of gas. I had no idea of the cause but I searched Briggs and Stratton oil dilution on KZbin and found your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

My 3 year old Husky zero turn decided to fill the crank case spilling the oil out the exhaust, the crank case had over 1 gallon of gas in it when I drained the engine and had no oil left. It had sat for 2 months as I did not need to cut the grass due to lack of rain. the engine actually hydrolocked from the amount of fuel in the cylinders. Ran fine after draining then engine and flushing it. Now to get to the root of the problem. this looks like a good place to start. Thanks for the great video.

Fuel in crankcase is caused by a leaking carburetor or a fuel pump leaking thru the pulse line.

I'm having this problem with a B&S 40R877/0001-G1. Is this happening while the engine is running, or off? It's on a JD Z235, and the gas tank sits lower than the carb, so it can't be gravity.

@Grrrnthumb4 ай бұрын
Compression lock has similar symptoms, but no gas in the oil or extra gas pouring out the spark plug hole like this problem does. Usually caused by broken compression release lever on the camshaft. Tbone has a great video here on how to diagnose & replace camshaft

I have a 20 HP Briggs & Stratton motor for gas, i have a same problem, i changed a carburater complete for a new one, and the problem is still remains. Please can you help me?. Other sings, gas is expeled by exhaust pipe, oil in air filter.
@RaleysSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
If your old has gas in it only two things can cause it. Carburetor or fuel pump leaking gas thru the pulse line into the valve cover.

Hello sir, Love your video. I Have been struggling with this issue with gas getting into the motor. I'm very familiar with needle seats and carbs. I have had a lot of dirt bike carbs over the years. Anyways, I cannot get rid of this issue. I have drained the tank and new fuel filter. My struggle is, I just purchased a brand new briggs and Stratton carburetor and put it on. Its doing the SAME thing, where white smoke and gas is filling up the oil. I'm at a complete loss knowing it has a brand new carburetor. I keep thinking what else it could be? Gas tank not totally cleaned out. This is on a John Deer Z425 zero turn mower.. any help would be appreciated.
@RaleysSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. You may have a bad fuel pump. Remove the pulse hose and see if it is wet with fuel.
@Mark-jz4dz2 жыл бұрын
@@RaleysSmallEngines . Do you think the fuel pump or lines is getting debris so the needle seat won't close? What is weird, if I change the oil again to remove the gas and put oil back it starts up like a champ and can mow the lawn fine. Give it a week later, gas is back in the crankcase when starting it back up. I'm going to change the lines and then look at pump. That's about all that's left. I didn't think about lines Until now...im going to order a new pump. Do you happen to have that part # for. 23hp John Deere z445 Briggs and Stratton
@RaleysSmallEngines2 жыл бұрын
@@Mark-jz4dz just order a Briggs and stratton vacuum operated fuel pump. Don't use aftermarket.
@Mark-jz4dz2 жыл бұрын
I just want to say this fixed the issue. I can't figure out why a fuel pump makes the needle seat stay closed. This should be done by the floats in the carb. I'm definitely not a small engine guy, thanks for the recommendation, I probably replaced the oil 6 times because I thought I had this fixed. So simple...

@@donaldshimkus539 Mine is 25 years old, and I've never had to replace the carb. I cleaned the jets once just to say that I did it. It does have the 2 BBL carb, though, not the one in the video. It still runs great. From what I've seen, most Intek problems seem to be operator induced. I do have to admit that I may actually have to replace the rear tires on the mower soon. I changed the fronts about 5 years ago.
@donaldshimkus539 Жыл бұрын
@@tinkerscorner54 I have 2 lines of thought here, 1 is if it's operator issues all other brands would fail at a similar rate. 2 is those who buy this cheaper product are less knowledgeable about it's operation/maintenance and therefore tend to cause their early demise. The few that last are owned by folks like yourself who know how to take care of their equipment.
@tinkerscorner54 Жыл бұрын
@@donaldshimkus539 You are correct. All of them fail if neglected/abused. I see it in all types of engines, transmissions, suspension parts, tires, etc. Especially in cars. And then people get the rude awakening about what neglect/abuse costs them. They expect you to fix it cheap but don't seem to have a clue that it would have been much cheaper to have the maintenance done in the first place. Not to mention driving/operating habits . . . I've seen some really funky examples over the years. Some really great equipment just totally trashed out way before it's time from not even taking the time to learn to use it, let alone take care of it. On the other hand, you don't see or hear much about the good ones. They just go down the highway in their 1974 Pinto with 500K+ miles on the original engine, or their 1997 riding mower that still looks and operates as new, better than the newer, similar equipment. Or their 1971 Motor home that, may not look all that great on the outside but is a jewel on the inside and under the hood. Mostly what we see and hear about are the problems. I like the "Free Mower in the Trash" videos. Those are the ones where you see all sorts, from neglect and abuse to ignorance and not knowing any better. It can be either a jewel or a money pit. Take care and have a great day!
