The Jellies we were covered up for are Irukandji and Box Jellyfish for way up north, they can be deadly but tights/skins/rash shirt material will protect you from them and I'm pretty sure it would from blue bottles as well. If there's blue bottles around you should see them washed up on shore as you walk up to the water so will have that warning sign and if you do get stung a warm shower usually stops the stinging 🤙

Great stuff as always, Briggsy! Was wondering if you could explain your preference for the Hyper M-OVER S80-2/4 over the LIGHT ROCK SPECIAL S902-2/4. Both are PE 2 -4 but the 9 foot can cast 20-90 gram rather than the 8 foots 20 to 70 grams. I also would have thought the extra rod length would help with casting distance and steering the fish when land based. I'm trying to decide between these two and hoping you can explain your apparent preference. Cheers!
@Briggsy12 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, if I was classic rock fishing where you’re up a bit off the water and need the extra length for casting and even just bringing the lure up the rocks I’d go the 9’0. If it’s flat and you’re low to the water and want to tweak the lure easier then go the 8’0 🤙 I like both sticks but for island trip’s usually go the M-Over, mainland spinning with a bit of swell 9 footer 👍

I try to hide locations for the locals where ever I travel too, not many people notice but it makes it pretty hard to know where it is unless you’ve been there. Boat fishing no one really cares but landbased fishos are more sensitive so I try to do what I can to be respectful to the locals
@DOBlob6 күн бұрын
Whats the need for pulling the line off the spool after casting before winding?
@Briggsy6 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, so a loose wrap doesn’t go across the other braid at a weird angle or even fall off the spool before getting covered with the other line from the retrieve, either can cause wind knots on your next cast. (Less important for a careful adult, but kids tend to get those kinda wraps if they’re not on to it)
@DOBlob5 күн бұрын
@Briggsy ah good to know, thanks, never really had an issue with wind knots but as a kid back in the day that used to happen A LOT! Now I know why. Also the old cast with the line wrapped around the tip was a cringey one.

Hey Briggsy, awesome video! I’m looking at the new saltiga reels and can’t decide between the 20k and 18k. Which of these two spool sizes do you use most? Is it better just going the larger?
@Briggsy6 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, I have both spools and I pretty much only use the 20k. I spool it with a fair bit of mono backing around 20m, do an FG to the braid, then spool about 350m of PE8 on top, feels like could hook a 100kg tuna from shore, get down to the mono and lock up stretchy fight it until you win back some M to the braid and finish it off haha. Pretty much just feels really solid and you can take on the whole ocean 👍

Briggsy why do japanese use 10ft rod for rockshore/landbased for kingsfish or tuna and for brooksy, cavy and you mostly use 8ft rods? Whats the difference?
@Briggsy20 күн бұрын
Hi Mate, I don’t like sticks over about 9’0. They’re annoying to tweak lures, too much length to do normal sweeps/tweaks (you hit the ground), if you’re wading that gets even worse (you feel all crunched up, elbows up around your ears trying to tweak it haha). If throwing heavy lures it puts more pressure on you when sweeping them (burns more energy in the long run). During the fight they put more hurt on you, shorter sticks way nicer in the fight. In general longer sticks feel less responsive/ snappy, they’re heavier and more cumbersome. But the good things about longer sticks is slightly better cast distance and during the fight you have more reach around structures. All up the shorter sticks for me just feel nicer to work lures with and fight fish 🤙
@emnico606319 күн бұрын
@ Thanks mate! That explains everything.
