His voice sounds the same live as he does on most songs. I mean hell, one of the best reasons to listen to him outside his lyrical genius, is how raw the music is.

My wife officially moves in 15 days after being separated for the last 4 or so years. This song captures that feeling of resentment towards borders, nationality, and borders perfectly.

Loving you is easy I can do it in my sleep I dream of you so often It's like you never leave But you're gone below the border With a nightmare in between I'm sending the coyote To bring you back to me Where there's a fancy hotel waiting In south San Gabriel Where the movie madams sunbathe The playboys para-sail And I know you think I'm crazy But most people they can't tell So I'll meet you there tomorrow If I can have you to myself Inside the time I tried to occupy or waste Since you've been away It's hard our plans are stalled on calling cards I can't see your poker face While your voice is sounding so brave Our Lady Guadalupe In plaster on the wall Joseph Smith saw Jesus in America Well I don't know much about it It doesn't matter much at all Just keep your head down lady As you travel through the dark And if I should seem distracted By the color of the sky As a copper wire sunset plays a lullaby It's just to know they've stolen Another day from you and I It gets me feeling low down When the moon is fulling high They bait the route To take the place that's safe That you might wait a day A lonesome broken dawn That finally comes Just as I was losing faith You keep every promise you make Loving you is easy I can do it in my sleep I dream of you so often It's like you never leave But you're gone below the border With a nightmare in between So I'm sending the coyote To bring you back to me Yes I'm sending the coyote To bring you back to me

this is such a beautiful song. it's a bit different then the old Bright Eyes, but it is still so poetic. and that is what's beautiful about their music, it's so poetic. there are very few artists today who sing poetry, most of the songs are just the same meaningless whining.

They don't deny that they're a studio band. What makes Connor's music beautiful is the amazing lyrics, feeling and truth behind the music. Things that I don't think you'd understand. Connor's solo songs without effects are just as amazing and this song in particular has hardly been altered at all. We think he's the shit because he is, what have you done with your life?

I love Conor's invocation of Our Lady Guadalupe, the patron saint in whose spirit traveling migrants find solace and the will to trudge forth. The coyotes unlike border patrols possess a protective instinct. Since this is a protest song, I think the song isn't about a woman but a migrant or migrants Conor sympathizes or identifies with.

@thorsteinn85 I was at the Concert For Equality in Omaha on July 31st 2010 when he played this song live. It has absolutely nothing to do with Poison Oak. As much as I love that song there is absolutely nothing similar. Honestly, this song is not even a Bright Eyes song it is a Connor song with Mike Mogis producing. He had this absolutely wonderful family friend who had a mom who had to flee Fremont and it was all about that.

@thebluriscoming12 i have to disagree with you. conor's grown as a person, and once you hit a certain age, you understand happiness comes from within, not externally. cassadega (and his self-titled album) was great because of his regeneration, his deeper understanding of the world and himself in it. suffering is only one portion of the human experience, and i'm glad he's now willing to explore other emotions through his music. thus, regarding the comment below, he's as confessional as ever.
