Yes, I have the same exact question. I have a blue heeler puppy that is 4 months and is already larger than my 5 year old shiztu and the puppy is always charging, jumping on, nipping at older dogs ears, legs, tail. The older dog has already snapped and barked at puppy many times yet puppy still does it thinking it is play for whatever reason. He was friends with my moms dogs when we were living there, and he will play with my dads poodle. My dog normally doesn’t like bigger dogs. I see you have the opposite problem. My older dog tries to correct the puppy but makes the puppy even crazier. To a point where it seems like the puppy is attacking him to dominate. I just got the puppy is 4 months old and it's a Walker Coonhound. He goes in next week to be neutered. Could it just be male hormones?

Great advice. However, my daughter got an older puppy last week and today just got a younger puppy, 8 weeks old. For the most part they are good with eachother, tags wagging while playing with eachother and the eight week old clearly submits to the older puppy as the alpha but the older puppy gets aggressive with the younger pup when returning from going potty and when they get fed. Are the dynamics different with two puppies as opposed to one puppy and one adult dog?

this happened to me but with a family friends dog. Its only because the older dog had gotten sick of the puppy in his space and lashed out. We could have stopped it but we let it be, the cut was large enough for stitches. It does not mean that the older dog was being aggressive more the fact your puppy was going too far. Ever since that happened there has been no tension between our puppy and the older dog, the older dog was acting as a father figure almost. There are many things that older dogs consider rude and have to train the puppy in a way harsher for them to learn.

The dog just decided that she wanted to bully him, so she ran up to him and bit him. Some dogs don't have the right temperment to be around puppies.

I'm in exactly the same situation. My 3 year old wasnt introduced to other dogs early on so has some issues. There are dogs he gets on really well having said that. Yesterday we brought home our new puppy, we had a baby gate separating the two dogs and he became very aggressive, snarled and showed teeth when she would approach. Did you ever find a fix for this? He was never around puppies but he did get trained by our old pitbull mix and he did everything this guy said. He made contact and taught him what was right and wrong. @@MonkeySlut2217 yea they are great friends now, but at the cost of the old dogs trust, it took about 3 weeks, and basically we just let them be around each other with the older dog strapped up to the backyard tramp and then eventually we'd let them free and every time that she went to bite the puppy and attack it, i smack the shit out of her, my dad would hit her pretty dam hard hense why i think she lost trust in me. But with that said the puppy and i are greatly bonded because she would have seen that i was protecting her, insuing trust that im the leader or however you want to see it. But yea that was the only way us asian knew how, we have to really hurt the dog, like i kicked it and slapped it alot and pretty hard that my own hands hurt/....

I have found 3 newborn and puppies. One remained at home. My dog is 5 year's old, he is very gentle and love to play with puppies, but I think is jealous and not very happy. I'm worried that he might hurt him. In 40 years of owning dogs ( GSDs ) I can bring in a pup into my home with adults with no problem. I let them playfight. If it gets out of hand I break it up by giving the command enough, I have always had multiple dogs as I compete and title in SchH III. I currently have 3 GSDs and a mutt. My youngest GSD will be 4 and my mutt ( Lab/ Border Collie/ Australian Cattle Dog mix) will be 3. They love to scrap it out in a good way, but when I say enough they stop. I do not and never will go to dog parks. But they have all been socialized big time including other dogs and pups. I also certify mine in SAR and Therapy.

Hi, I have a few tips that may help. It is crucial that you are only allowing the pup to be with the older little dog when you are supervising. If they are playing, let them. But as SOON as the puppy starts taking it too far and starts to bully (which in the pup's mind they'll think they're playing and being fun), step in between them and point a finger at the pup and gently but firmly say "No." and redirect the pup to a different toy (it is crucial to not only discipline but more importantly REDIRECT). Then back away and see if there is any change with how rough the pup is. If the pup continues to be rough, step in again, say "NO." Then separate the pup for about 5-10 minutes. The pup may whine but let them, it's time out. You training the pup will supplement the older dog training the pup. You will teach it not to bite, how to play nice, not to jump, etc. It would be preferable for the older dog to do this, but the owner discipline will have to do. In the future, have the pup play by itself to wear it out before playing with the older doggy. So essentially the solution is you being the referee. I hope this helps!

This is an important topic. I have Boston Terriers. A puppy - 1 year old, and the “alpha”…so to speak… 6 yo. We have a 3rd who is very old and just stares at them. The two are trying to “work things out”, the two of them. They have hurt each several times, and have bitten me twice…hard. Only because my hand was in the way. They will play excitefully most of the time. But I am a “trigger” for the puppy who is attached to me. Me and my companion are at a complete loss at what to do, I keep hoping the puppy will grow out of it. And, the puppy is half the size of the older one, but just as powerful. We can’t let them see the fights through, one would be hurt too badly. It seems the puppy is not giving in to the older one’s dominance. WE NEED HELP.

My adult dog basically does this toward the hyper almost 6 month old puppy constantly, is this just normal behavior? He’s fine if she’s not in his face or nipping his ears or sniffing around when he’s got a treat or eating. He’s not chasing her down or biting, and it’s not even full on growls, just low noises in the moment. I’m sure it’s fine it just worries me he’s unhappy to have the new puppy around?

Our adult dog won't correct our 7 week old puppy. They keep sniping at each other, growling and chasing each other then my adult dog starts whining.

My puppy who is like the size of my palm scares my adult chiweenie dog. The puppy nips my older dog hard and bats at her. My older dog just whines

At that point I would separate the puppy from the older dog. If the puppy is the instigator, then you would have to step in and be the disciplinary figure for the pup. Is the adult dog bigger than the puppy?

My dog is 3 years old and we brought a puppy home from the pound he snapped at her in correction like explains however here lately he will latch on and shake the puppy and will not let go he seems to try to be killing her she got puncture wounds and I'm not sure what to do now pls help

My 7 yr old Chihuahua hates my 10week old pit mix. I really want them to get along but the puppy just doesn't listen to her. I think she thinks she a puppy too because she's the same size.

10 weeks is very very young, just give it some time they will work it out.

What if the puppy is not willing to submit to my older dog? I’m worried since my puppy doesn’t flinch when my older dog snaps at him. Older dog is japanese spitz mix and puppy is a pomeranian.

my puppy is 4.5 months old. we have a friend who has an 8 year old dog. my puppy is constantly jumping on him, he growls, barks, throws her on the floor but she just doesn't give up

I have the same problem. Hope the puppy calms down a little. He’s 3 months old and the old one is 13 yo and this beautiful hurricane came in to disrupt his peaceful environment.

I have a huge border collie, he’s 5 years old and I recently got a chihuahua, he’s 7 weeks old, today my older dog just went for the little puppy, the little one was yelping a lot, that’s when we intervened, I’m just scared because of the huge size difference

My dog Bella is a chihuahua and shes 5 year old but she don't exactly like other dogs, we got another dog name Sakura shes a pitbull, she only 7 weeks old she chill but playful, my dog don't mind her being around but when she comes near her, she'll give that look or snarl at her but my puppy don't get it my dog Bella don't intend to hurt her but when Sakura plays to much she nibble on her how do i get them to get along?

Our small dog doesn’t seem to have a filter on the size of the puppy though. I’m worried that the puppy will fight back and hurt him. He also seems to be looking for the puppy to do something wrong and will follow him around the dog park. Almost as if he saying “I thought I told you that this was unacceptable” and going at them again. He’s completely fine with adult dogs. It’s just that six months to one year phase that you talk about that seems to set him off. Is there anyway to get him to lighten up a little bit?

So my puppy will fight and do too much and then my dog will snarl or snap but my puppy won’t back down, she’ll just keep coming back to fight

what if the adult is a terrier and the puppy grows larger (retriever/sheppard size) will the puppy get the picture or will size give it more confidence to bully the smaller adult?

I just got a puppy a male and he is 12 weeks old my older dog is about 3 and she is a spayed female. We got Angel, an American Bully last year October. We've had Snowy (Spanish river dog) and Miracle (Maltese) for some years now and they've lived together in the same space for a long time and have become so bonded to each other, to the point where it's been totally impossible for Angel to even make friends with them, that's all she wants to do. Till date, every time we try to socialize them, Snowy and Miracle are having none of it and that makes Angel so sad; she feels alone most of the time. I fear they may never get along. Also, Angel is quite aggresive by nature; even playing with her can go south real quick. And the other dogs are quite small as compared to her, she keeps getting bigger and bigger. I just want them to be friends....😭😭😔😔

what if the 10 week siberian puppy is a straight savage towards the year old newfoundland, like biting his lips and just goin crazy...the newfie corrects him, often, but nothing has changed. fyi, we've had the pup for a week, so maybe more time?

I have the same problem. I just adopted my husko two days ago and I have a golden girl who is going to be 2 in Aug. She is very well training and behaved and I am hoping the puppy will learn a lot from her. They are kept seperated as it too early for the puppy to be roaming around the house so he has his crate and pen. The golden girl is very curious of him but doesnt initiate the play. Whenever I make them meet say on walks or in the living area, the husko goes crazy seeing her. She's just a big chew toy for him. He'll leave everything, even toys and start biting her tail, legs, face, ears what ever he can. She is tolerant and tries to touch his neck gently but doesnt growl. She does paw him and try and move away but he wont give up. He'll fall even yelp once sometimes then 2 sec later he'll back at her. At this point I have to take him away.

It's been 2 years since your comment, do they get on well now? I have a 3 year old dog and a 9 werk old pup my adult dog doesn't get a minute of peace but I'm hoping it'll pass and things will settle down.

can you help me with something so I got a new puppy dog and when my German sheperd met it it started sniffing it which is okay but then he started butting the female puppy it's colours are black and brown I'm not sure what breed it is.
