Appreciate the sharing of your knowledge. I’m a 356 fan but never considered a Ghia.

I bought a ‘73 Thing new in ‘73. I live in St Louis. That was the coldest car I ever owned. Even with the gasoline heater (that went back to the dealer 13 times). For no heater. You could turn on the heater timer and make it toasty hot but by the time I got to work my parka was zipped up tight around my face with gloves on. There would be frost inside the doors. Having owned several Beatles I was used to the windshield fog the other cars were nothing next to the Thing.

8:40 looks like a custom support ,where the original jack position used to be

I appreciate the 23-window vans, but I would never purchase one due to not being original. I will check the auction out to see what they go for. I have a 69 Ghia that is in the process of getting the engine overhauled for the first time; it has never been worked on and never had the case savers installed under 30,000 mileage.

Lovely; a ‘69 Ghia was my first car; a hand me down from my father. I would’ve still had it were it not for the fact that one of my brothers totaled it.

@@vayabroder729 My car sat for 40 years until I found it. It still had the original front disc pads. I had a 66, and my wife totaled it. She was unhurt.

@@johnhash6417 That is awesome! Try to keep the 83 mm cylinders; they are very sturdy.

@@vayabroder729 He is. I am very fortunate to have a mechanic whose Dad is a master VW mechanic. He had a hard time finding a German Cam but located one along with an original new German oil pump.

Hey that was pretty interesting! Thanks for sharing, Chris! I'd love to buy that Thing but Bidenomics prevents that right now

The lack of trim on the window weatherstripping is the first giveaway that a car is not “all original”. Same with clown like paint and bling on motor. And yes; I don’t like whitewalls on newer cars; they don’t belong. Brazilian cars are being imported with hefty asking prices.
