The steering can be easily mounted in a post 1960 car if you use the steering column and tube from an oval up to 1959 bug. as simple as that, only use the older horn system with the charcoal contact on the column. :)

I have a flat 4 in my super and I agree, it’s kinda close to me. Anyone make nice steering wheels(14-15”) that have the splines in them? Or a short adapter?
@aircooledaccessories4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, great informative video. I just watched as I was fitting one to my 64. Also I'd just like to let you know the wheel sits identical to a stock wheel. The deep aluminium adapter puts it just right to the deep dish on a 60s wheel. If it sat further away it'll hit the turn signal. Keep up the great work 👍

I would grind off the horn nubs an drill a set screw into the wheel to hold the button.

The Banjo steering wheel looks really great but not comfortable on the hands specially during long drives just my personal opinion ✌️

@@jeffeylumanog7673 ok so on a 62, you would need a much bigger adapter to mount the banjo, thus making it closer to you and putting your arms on an awkward angle. Yeah I only recommend this wheel on the earlier bugs as you do not need such a large mount.

Hello Chris! Would you happen to know if the flat four banjo wheel is the same to the empi version?

I like my Flat4 wood wheel! but it feels a little cheap (laminated wood veneer), you get what you paid for.

Have you tried using a suction cup to remove the horn button from those wheels?
@classicvwbugs6 жыл бұрын
I haven't, but that is a good tip!

You can push the button out using a the long end of an Allen wrench through the (3) through holes on the back of the steering wheel.The holes are found near the perimeter of the wheel.
@classicvwbugs6 жыл бұрын
@@georgebeltran9469 Yes but I should have mentioned that usually you would come across this issue when the wheel is mounted on the shaft and all installed in the bug. If it is all mounted on, you will not be able to pop it off as you mention. So you have to pop it off from the top.
@georgebeltran94696 жыл бұрын
Chris Vallone , I have mine mounted in a 65 Beetle and the holes are still accessible after it is mounted on the adapter and shaft. The shaft and adapter does not obstruct the perimeter holes along the edge of the horn button diameter. Even a long thin screw driver can be used to push the horn buttons out and avoid potential horn button damage.

Very good to know George! Thank you. I did not know it was accessible on a later model.

The three mounting screws on these banjo wheels tend to come loose after a while lots of complaints about these steering wheels it's a bad design ...i think cip1 and other makers of these wheels need to get rid of the 3 bolt screw adapter and have a one piece ...my friend had a wobbly steering wheel once on the fwy do to the fact the 3 mounting bolts tend to get loose ..he was scared after that happened.. hes was always retighting his banjo wheel before he went out for a ride and hated it so he went back to his stock wheel much much much safer buys beware...

Do you know if the Empi Banjo replacement horn button will fit the Flat 4 Banjo Steering wheel?
@classicvwbugs6 жыл бұрын
I am not sure as I have not tried mixing brands.
@whitesnake14396 жыл бұрын
Two things you show will make me pass. 1 is that design on cap install is bad- I don't want to nick it up removing. 2 is that polished adapter piece-should come ivory or black to match the wheel.

That sucks I wanted one for my 66 till I seen how they have a adapter that makes it sit farther to you. I won’t buy one now thanks. Saved me 300 bucks and I would of took that off my car and probably sold it for nothing

Hi actually I just fitted one to my 64 and it sits identical to a stock wheel, I think Chris has forgotten that the 60s wheels have a deep dish on them unlike a pre 60s wheel 😉
