Hi, in this video you will see Florida's new long distance train - the Brightline train, soon to operate under the Virgin Trains USA brand. I have booked the highest booking class, called select. I will also show you a different, cheaper train as some bonus content at the end of the video.

The prices are extremely reasonable for the journeys you made. I had no idea such a line existed. No plans to visit FL soon, but when I do, I'll try and travel by this train. Thanks so much for sharing and ignore the naysayers- they have nothing better to do than complain :(

I enjoyed my trip with you. I was very impressed when I took the same trip during Thanksgiving 2018. Food options will probably expand once the train reaches Orlando. I hope a cafe lounge car will be added for that longer trip but I get conflicting answers when I ask. Thank you for pleasant video.

Hello and thanks for watching as well as your comment! That’s always super interesting for me to hear about the travel experiences of my viewers! I’m happy to hear you had a good trip on the Brightline train. A cafe car or bistro would certainly be a great addition to their product and I think it deserves more passengers. Let’s hope the extension to Orlando will help to achieve that, because in my opinion it’s a rather enjoyable travel experience! Christian from travelmentary TV

I’ve used both trains. Personally I like the Tri-tail better. Tri-Rail is much more convenient to get around once you arrived at your destination. The fact it takes 34 minutes longer is not a big deal to me.

And to the guy that complained that the video is too old, but deleted the comment afterwards: This is only a little hobby in my very busy life. I have many things to do besides this channel, studying, working etc.. It is not a professional channel. As much as I love to share my videos with an international audience, I don't think anybody is entitled to get anything from me or is in the position to demand anything. I only make videos for the fun of it in my very limited free time. You either accept that or go and watch full time KZbinrs. Have a wonderful day.

Extreme arrogance!
@travelmentaryTV
@travelmentaryTV 4 жыл бұрын
The Cambridge Dictionary defines arrogance as “unpleasantly proud and behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than, other people”. I fail to see where that applies to me, at least in the context of what I wrote above ;). I’m just saying I’m a small KZbinr that creates videos for fun. That also means, I can only release a limited number of videos, partly, because the way I edit them is a bit complicated, partly because there is a life outside of KZbin. I love to make these videos and it is so cool that people from all around the globe are watching them. I have nearly a million channel views now and that alone is fascinating. Sometimes though, there are people that are sort of self-entitled and they think that creators have to deliver them the entertainment that they want, when they want. But life doesn’t work that way.

Way too slow process boarding. Checking bags totally stupid. Everything seems like it’s done as an experience instead of transport. It can hardly be any success done like that. I live in Europe and train service on a route like that would be 24h ever 20-30 minutes. And much more efficient. I don’t get it. However great video :-)
@travelmentaryTV
@travelmentaryTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Sir, when you look at it from a European standpoint as you do, I tend to agree with you. Especially in the US a train service must bring clear advantages to the customers, otherwise people will choose the plane or the car. It has to be very quick and reliable. The Brightline is not bad though, many things were done right. The boarding process seems slow, but on some European long distance trains it’s also quite long. The Eurostar (see my video) is an example and there were discussions to implement security controls on all long distance trains in Europe! Finally, I would like to thank you for having watched the video - and for sharing your view. If you liked the video please consider subscribing, there are many videos online and many more to come! Friend, Your bright line walk-through was so good and so helpful. I’m going to be using it next month. Your video did much to relieve The usual anxiety I have when I go to a travel location for the first time. You have such great skill and description. My blindness is, like most people, not complete, but it’s very individual. I have a P sized portal through which I can see, although blurry. It’s finding things, searching which is always pesky. Like: where is the light switch when entering the bathroom? Where and how are the seating numbers posted? Where is the restroom or snack bar or attendant located in relationship to the seating? Where does one turn to exit when leaving the train? How does one purchased a ticket it’s pretty easy. How does the ticket interact with the facility? Does it have to be scanned? If it is scanned, where is the scanner and where is the insertion place. As I said, you do a great job and I certainly wouldn’t want to bore the general public with these little things, but if you could simply talk through a little more with the specific actions you do, that would help. Like a play-by-play commentary Buy a sports caster. I enjoyed your work immensely and I have subscribed because I insist on traveling and I try, as much as I can, to be autonomous and dignified. Information is key to this and you are a big help. Thank you.

Hello, I appreciate your feedback and sharing your perspective as a traveler! I am always happy to read that my videos are helpful to other travelers! Your comment made me think about a lot of things. Allow me to elaborate a little bit on some of my thoughts. Let me start by saying that on the one hand one must keep in mind that in spite of trying to be informative, I am not producing instructional content on this channel. In the end, these videos are still made for entertainment purposes. Therefore, it would be rather difficult to include more and more details, because that would change the character of the content significantly. Also I believe that I couldn't give all those important details in a precise and complete way. On the other hand I can imagine that sharing those little details could be so important to people, to take away anxiety and encourage participation in what we all love - traveling. So I'm thinking about what a possible solution could be? Nothing should ever stop you from hopping on a train, plane, ship! But how to achieve a better travel experience for everyone? How to deliver the additional information that some groups of travelers require? Those are the questions that your comment has raised in me. Given the fact that you are addressing them, I assume that there is a lack of those pieces of information or they are scattered at different places and are difficult to find. What I can think of is the following: First of all, I believe you could help a lot of other people if you would write down your travel experience and share it online, maybe on sites like TripAdvisor. Add some photos to it! Other travelers will thank you and will follow the example. Secondly, there might be a niche for a site, that focuses on exactly that. I remember that on another occasion, I recommended a site called wheelchairtravel.org to someone. A similar website or even app featuring the information you asked for could help many travelers. Despite the shortcomings of my videos I would be very glad if they are still at least somewhat helpful to you. Thank you for watching and commenting! Christian from travelmentary TV

The problem is that trains compete with government funded freeways. A lot of America's present-day rail system was built by private companies over a hundred years ago. Once governments got involved in building too many freeways suffocating rail companies, taking control of them and tearing down their networks. It goes to show most people on the political side of this don't know what the hell they are talking about. Freeways aren't hardly capitalist and railroads aren't socialist. It is reasonable that a more rural community would build a freeway and a urban one would prefer to build railways. It's just political arguments to show that your way of life is better even though the communities are entirely different.

Great video! Thanks for posting. I honestly wish they would have utilized catenary/pantograph technology. Less emissions and seemingly higher speed capability. However, aesthetically speaking, the catenary cables can be somewhat of an eye sore...especially in major metropolitan areas. I wonder why we don't utilize third rail powering technology on high speed commuter rails. Hmmm...third rails are more rugged and can endure a bit more of a beating over time. I assume it has something to do with speed capability. If I'm not mistaken, I believeI read somewhere that catenary cable systems are capable of carrying a much higher voltage capacity. I could be mistaken. Regardless, this is a beautiful train. They really did an excellent job with the overall aesthetic experience and turnaround times.

If they would of made the tracks higher on beams not on ground level they would of achieved higher speeds. Something is wrong with the planners of the tracks. People are interested in speed. Going 79 mph will not bring costumers.
@travelmentaryTV
@travelmentaryTV 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I think speed is only one of many aspects. I do believe it is important and I agree with you that the Brightline would probably do better as a high speed train (especially on a longer route). Nevertheless, speed alone doesn‘t make or break a good railway product. Service, station buildings, integration with other means of transport, reliability, number of trains are equally or even more important than just the maximum speed. All things considered I would still say the Brightline train is a solid offering, but trains are a difficult business in the US.

Are you able to speak to the wheelchair accessibility of these Brightline/Virgin trains? How does someone who uses a wheelchair get on, and where do they sit? Also, how many wheelchairs can be on a train at a time? Is there a limit? Last time I wrote a train, it was the Amtrak Coastal Starlight. Hubby and I spent 2 1/2 days traveling from San Diego to Portland Oregon. It was a very rickety ride. And I had to stay in one place the whole time. I couldn’t move from car to car, which was a bummer, because from what they said on the overhead PA, a lot of fun was to be had in the parlor car.

The issue with more advanced food options, is if you're suggesting things like a precooking meal. Brightline does not have a kitchen car on board. Something like this would also raise costs, and Brightline doesn't have a lot of people riding on it, surprisingly. Not a lot of peoppe means not a lot of money. Not a lot of money, means no money after a while, especially with the costs of purchasing the items needed for the meals, preparing them, serving them, etc. You also have to take into account the cost of maintaining such a service.

travelmentary TV Yeah, I threw up three times on a plane trip, something that does not happen when I take trains
@travelmentaryTV
@travelmentaryTV 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I wouldn’t say it’s much better than the Acela. Certain aspects are better, but the Acela is not a bad train in my opinion. It is just older, but for example I actually found the onboard catering more convincing on the Acela than on the Brightline train. And once it becomes the Avelia Liberty, I will need to re-evaluate it. Also it’s a very different train service, the Acela is a long distance train with a higher maximum speed, while the Brightline only covers a short distance and is a diesel electric train. In fact, I’m not a fan of comparing trains that serve different routes anyway, because as a passenger you make your decision based on the means of travel that are available on a particular route. So the Brightline train doesn’t compete with the Acela or some state sponsored railway service in Asia, but first and foremost with the car and to a certain degree with the Trirail.

@travelmentaryTV

Hi, yes, the Tri Rail makes significantly more stops than the Brightline train, hence the longer travel time of something around 1 hour 40 minutes from Miami airport, depending on the train. The Brightline train, which is temporarily suspended, takes about 1 hour of travel time from Downtown Miami to West Palm Beach. For precise information, schedules and the current status of the train services, please consult the respective railway operator, as I’m just a KZbinr that made this trip quite a while ago. I used to live in Florida back in the 1980s and 1990s when Brightline was just a thought/concept. I knew it was reality and they are working towards their ultimate goal of Orlando and eventually, Tampa, where I lived. Considering basic Brightline is $14 and the public train is close to $7, they are priced competitively. Depending on the schedule I had to maintain and when the trains ran that would determine which one I took if I lived there and worked. Thanks for the review, it gives you a good idea of what is there now and in about a year I guess Orlando will be available (2022 is the plan).

But the Eurostar lounge offers indeed “more substantial” things to eat, a greater variety. Thank you very much for watching and sharing your thoughts on this video! Christian from travelmentary TV

Hi - great video. I was down at MiamiCentral a couple weeks ago, and since your visit they've also opened up a big food hall on the second story with outposts from several local restaurants. Also, management confirmed there will be expanded food options once the long-haul leg to Orlando is opened in 2022.

Hi thanks for watching and your insightful comment! That’s good news you have here, because I also felt that something was missing without some restaurants. How was your impression, were there many travelers? I read the Brightline business hasn’t met the expectations in terms of passenger count yet.

The tri-rail does have one advantage in that it stops directly at MIA airport and at the FLL airport stop there is a free shuttle bus ride to the terminal included in your fare.

Yes, the connection to the airports together with the low price is a strong point in favor of the tri-rail. Thanks for watching and it would be very cool to see you on this channel again!

Thanks for watching. It's a nice train and once they complete the section to Orlando it will become even more attractive to choose the train.

Love your video but why did you block out faces?
@travelmentaryTV
@travelmentaryTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, the reason is that I want to ensure the privacy of other travelers as well as the employees to the extent that I can as a creator. Maybe somebody doesn’t feel comfortable appearing in an online video? So unless people are part of a larger group/bigger picture, I try to blur faces as a rule of thumb. Thanks for your comment and for watching the video!

Well, I'm not affiliated with Brightline in any way, shape or form and hence am not responsible for their website, so it's probably better if you get in touch with the train operator. There are different options to do so on their website. I can't give you any specific technical assistance, as I'm just a KZbinr.
