Learn something new everyday. I always travel 1st class from Ljubljana to the Netherlands with transfers in Munich and Koln but never knew that there was a lounge included.
@travelmentaryTV3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching and your commment! As far as I know, the lounge is only included when booking a Deutsche Bahn Flexpreis ticket (it used to be different). I don’t know how it works with international tickets though. Anyway, Slovenia to the Netherlands sounds like a nice railway trip! Christian from travelmentary TV
@jbarrosomartins3 ай бұрын
How good is to travel on a train that strange people can have guns and knifes (no Xray like in Canada). No Lounge, and do we need to talk about German train stations?
@travelmentaryTV3 ай бұрын
I’m sorry, I’m afraid I don’t completely understand your comment, but I will try to reply anyway. First of all, there is a lounge, which I have shown in the video! The other thing is that in Europe only few railway services implement security controls, because railway travel has traditionally been different from airline travel in various ways, most importantly there are much more passengers, so real security controls would be difficult to do on a large scale. Railway stations in Germany are under the guard of the Federal Police (Bundespolizei) and especially in the big stations like Cologne you see them patrolling. Besides that, gun violence is very rare in Europe. Attacks with knives are more common, but can happen anywhere, not necessarily on a train or in a station. However crime is statistically much lower in Europe than in most other places. With that being said, it is always good to be vigilant, as life without risk doesn’t exist anywhere. I wish you happy travels!

German long distance trains (old and new) are in general very comfy and airconditioned. I personally prefer singledeck trains, but that's a matter of taste, I guess. But... German long distance trains do have a big problem: they are often running late or are even cancelled. So you need to have some spare time to deal with that when it comes. And I am not joking: in a few weeks time I will travel from my home country, the Netherlands, to Switserland and DB recently send me an e-mail (which is absolutely good service!!) that the second train of my trip is already cancelled and that I am free to take any other train...: so the first 30 minutes delay is already a fact. I am an experienced user of public transport all over Europe, so I know already what I will do. When you are not, I can imagine it can be a bit nerve wrecking...
@travelmentaryTV3 ай бұрын
@@JaapFilius Hi, thanks a lot for your comment. That’s absolutely true. The German railway has some fundamental problems, that have to do with the structure of the railway, the absence of competition and a huge system length that is both difficult and expensive to maintain. I have addressed those things in one of my older video and things haven’t changed since then… I was probably lucky on this trip, but as you state, if you travel with DB, you better be ready for delays and cancellations. Nevertheless, I wish you that things work out for you and you have a nice trip! Christian from travelmentary TV

@travelmentaryTV My 7 car set was a Sprinter service, which was really fast. The ICE 4 is still fine for the Sprinters, but they can upgrade the 7-car sets to 265 km/h. The XXL set was swapped to a normal 12 car set for Hamburg - Frankfurt, but the seat is the same on the 7-car set and it's still quite comfortable, but not as great as the ICE 1 seat.

3:19 A little detail about the station ; the building with the clock tower behind the train is actually the station building of the French station- yes - Basel SBB is in fact a two-nation-station, Basel SBB /SNCF. The German railways have their own station on the other side of the city-center… The French railway to Basel was the first train line in Switzerland 🇨🇭 in 1844.

The amount of info you dropped was NICE!!!! the only thing I would gripe about (only because you dropped so much knowledge) is whether the train is considered a higher-speed or high-speed train and if the service obtains the later.... But I will be looking for more of your videos in the future if they are like this.
@travelmentaryTV7 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks a lot for watching and your comment! That’s a good point you made with the speed of the train! Generally speaking, it’s always a struggle to decide which piece of information makes it into the video and which not, because it also has to do with the length of the animations etc. For instance at one point I also wanted to explain that Alstom is a French company that manufactures the TGV, but I found it just too much 😅 Yes, all my videos are created in this fact-loaded style, please feel free to watch my previous productions as well! @@travelmentaryTV I'm sure you'll get that information in one of your next videos. I love watching railway videos of all kinds, but train/trip reviews are some of my favorite, and your presentation was emaculate. I only added about adding the trains speed overall and if it reaches it within the service because I save it to a library and while I have a first-class ticket section, the videos also go under their speed 2. But it was very enjoyable.

I never transit through Frankfurt Hbf, I always transit through Frankfurt Airport, the safest major train station in Germany. You can modify the minimal transit duration or make a Flex Preis booking. The system may recommend you to transit through Frankfurt Fernbahnhof instead of Koeln, Duesseldorf or any other crime infested station.
