One time, I chocked on a lollipop. The ball part of the lollipop got separated from the stick part then a started to cough. My dad was doing his business then he saw me chocking then I went to the sink then he did anything he could but it did not come out and he told my mom and grandma to come where we were. Then everyone tried to help but it didn’t come out. Then in the last seconds of my life my grandma said to my dad to take it out with the fingers, so my dad did it and then it came out.

It's good to know this. When I was about 12 and my brother was 15, I choked on something. I was turning blue and my brother did the heimlich on me and saved my life. My grandmother and mother were there and neither of them knew what to do. If he hadn't been there, I'd be dead. Luckily I know how to do these things as an adult, I'm 35 now, and I'm teaching the kids in the family. Still do not know where my brother learned it back then, I think maybe at school in health class...maybe even in a movie who knows but he saved me.

I did - TWICE! Before the internet was popular, I used to go to the library every week. One day I saw a VHS (video) for the Heimlich Maneuver. I did not know what it was, I was young and I recently immigrated here from a Caribbean island. I read the cover , and because it introduced me, I checked it out along with some Make up tutorials and several non fiction books. I learned the procedure, practiced on a chair to also help myself if I ever needed it. A few months later my baby girl was eating a banana and was cooking. I did not panick, I did the Heimlich Maneuver and voila she was fine. About a year after that she was eating, and again she choked, and I did the same thing, and she spat the food out. It goes flying in the air - quite the sight! Thank goodness for my instinct to grab that video, because where we lived then was a new development, quite isolated and I had no neighbors to run to for help. Thank you for posting these videos for others to learn. The Heimlich Maneuver is one of the easiest ways to save a person's life, or that of our own... 😊👍👍

Thank you for posting this video. I am required through work to be certified in CPR and aid for choking. When I was a teenager long before computers I had watched a news program that demonstrated the Heimlich maneuver. A few years later while eating with my parents we were laughing and my father choked on a piece of meat. he began turning blue and I saved him by administering the Heimlich maneuver. Since then I have saved my daughter when she was about three from choking on a piece of hotdog. I recommend everyone learn and review the procedures regularly. You never know.
@colemarie92625 жыл бұрын
I wish pediatricians would recommend NO hotdogs for young kids....They are a massive choking risk! Because of the skin on them, your throat closing won't break that food up like squishier foods, and they keep the shape due to the stuff inside the skin. Grapes and tomatoes whole have the same problem, but hot dogs are such an acceptable "kid" kind of food I don't think most people know the issues with them. Glad you knew what to do and your girl is ok!

I saved my son from a total blockage when he was like 15 months. I used the infant one even tho he was over a year. It worked instantly. I'm a little embarrassed and relieved that it went okay since I didn't realize I should have used a different version. Also, I learned the infant version as laying them down on your leg rather than across your lower arm. It's the same thing otherwise as far as I can tell. Same angles and actions. Just on my thigh with his head by my knee rather than by my wrist/hand. Now that he's older, it's nice that I can use the adult versions of everything. Less clutter and confusion in my mind.

It happened to me once when I was practicing to hold my breaths but after the third gasp I saw myself leaning towards front and got my head banged on the table and in next moment that was probably after 5 seconds I heard my father calling my name. But today it happened with my father, we were laughing together on something my mom did and he suddenly chocked while drinking water I thought he would be okay but the moment I relaxed he fell on his face. I slammed on his back and made him sit and he finally got hold of himself. I still repent that if I had held him well he might not had fallen over his face. @LifeSaverCPRFirstAid Жыл бұрын
This is called "suctioning;" it is quite effective, but only a mechanical or manual suctioning device will help. "Reverse mouth-to-mouth" will not do anything. Typically only First Responders or EMTs will carry a suctioning device with them. Since ordinary civillians do not, they are not included in a CPR or First Aid class.

I gave him my husbands class ring to hold while I reached for his diaper pins. He started making a bad sound. I looked and the ring was nowhere to be seen. This is extra bad!! I immediately picked him up flipped him on his belly head down exactly as shown in the video. I prayed and then gave him one quick little "karate chop" between his shoulder blades and the ring popped right out! I was all of 19 at the time and my husband was at work. I am forever thankful!

We were eating at a restaurant a couple months ago when a child, maybe 5 years old, began to choke. His mother was freaking out and everybody was just looking at them wondering what to do. I quickly got up, not knowing what to do, and began doing the hiemlec with no success! Then, one of the employees grabbed the child, hit his back and removed "hard candy" from his throat! Parents, DO NOT GIVE CHILDREN HARD CANDY!!!! Anyway, it was a scary situation....everybody applauded the employee for his quick actions!

What a wonderful timing to put an ad in this video. Imagine someone dying and there's this ad.

I helped and succeeded thankfully. So its always handy to know and revist first aid videos. Just in case.
