@@funnythat9956 I can verify that peppermint oil does repel mice and rats. However, you have to use pretty high concentrations of it and as such it's not indoor safe. Better to make or buy peppermint oil and use a jar with holes drilled into it and a sponge inside to put the oil on. It lasts a while that way and has a chance to actually work. I tried this with several jars around my front porch and it did work, until it dried out.

They are a golden yellow color (which they are more attracted to and hummingbird are not). You use the same sugar to water ratio as for the hummingbirds. The difference is that the wasps get into the feeders and can’t get out. I have two and hang them in the same areas as my Hummer feeders. You will be amazed at how many wasps will end up in there. Empty it every other day or so. The hummingbirds won’t be affected by the wasps anymore.

If you have mosquitoes, they most likely grew in your yard, or an adjoining one. Check regularly for anything that holds standing water. If there is none, look around your neighbors' yards, and you can usually find the source. If they grow in water you can't drain, there is a virus that only attacks mosquito larvae. Drop a pill of it in the water every few weeks. If you can encourage bats, or are lucky enough to be near running water -- where dragonflies spend their "nymph" days, then emerge as super mosquito fighter jets -- these are among the safest mosquito controls ever designed.
@TampaDave3 жыл бұрын
Gab3 - They may not be the solution to your bug issues, but all three of those can be a solution to a lot of personal ones. All three have therapeutic value, for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. If you should ever feel unbalanced, just crushing a leaf of any of these and inhaling the aroma may prove useful. In the aromatherapy classes I took, no matter how many choices of oils you may have to chose from, the standard was: "When in doubt, use Lavender." It is calming and has a range of medicinal benefits. It is one of the many things I like about Seattle: Lavender everywhere!! Rosemary may be calming and uplifting at the same time, and has a range of benefits. Basil is one of the two most uplifting herbs I've ever encountered. I get a similar effect from crushing a basil leaf and inhaling the vapor as some cats get from catnip. All this to say, you have some nice herbs, there, bro. I like diatomaceous earth and ortho boric acid ("Roach-proof") for baseline control of insects in the home and garden. Regular borax and also baking soda can work well in some places. There are non-toxic bug traps and sticky strips. When all else fails, insect baits are my final insult to 6- and -legged creatures.

Peppermint extract or Tea takes the place of the peppermint oil. You just add the extract to water in a spray bottle or brew some peppermint tea let it cool then pour into spray bottle. I use small plastic bottle caps inside, and outside usually just dump a small pile in various areas. Repeat weekly for 3-4 weeks to catch the newly hatched ones. Will take out most roaches, perhaps not as effective on the small American roaches, but the bigger waterbug types will be disappear in days. If new construction, prior to drywall or enclosing the studs, buy lots of it and sprinkle generously on the foundation or boards to be enclosed.

The mint worked on an ant nest in one of my gardens plots. The nest was evacuated within 24 hours. I also found that the electronic sound boxes only stop the mice/rats from nesting nearby, it doesn't stop them from entering your property looking for food. The best way to rid the property of rodents is to remove all food stuffs such as bird seed, dog food left outside, compost boxes and put garbage in a sealed metal container not plastic. I live near a port city and rats are just part of the deal! Love my neighborhood cats ! 😁

SO...THAT'S why every cat in our area comes to my house. 9 yrs ago, a female cat went into our (open door) garage and gave birth to 6 beautiful kitties. I fell in love with her and made her mine. unfortunately, she brought her "hubby" with her. but....We fed them all, I named my babygirl, Cleopatra and the Tom, Smokey. We waited for her to wean the kittens before getting her spayed....too late...2nd litter came fast. We found homes for ALL the kittens. Smokey got sick and died within 1 yr. He was fairly old when he found us. Cleopatra died last summer. Jun 15th, 2018. I miss her so much. anyway, I have catmint, spearmint, peppermint and chocolate mint all growing in a side flower bed. And...the only one I planted was the chocolate mint. On a warm day, the smell drifts over and sooths my soul. I love putting peppermint in my Earl Grey tea.

Some good stuff here, nice to use natural methods where necessary. You got to remember that one application is not enough, you must be vigilant in your quest. I personally like some spiders in my home, when they get too much or are spotted by non arachnid lovers, I pick them up (try to get the male and female) and place them on my patio plants outside. They continue to do their thing with the visiting bugs. As for rodents, prevention is better than cure. Closely examine under eves and around pipes and ensure ALL holes are filled or stuffed with steel wool. Keep food well wrapped and sealed and check pantries regularly for incursions. I cleared all the mice using peanut butter in traps (I didn't like killing them, but it was freaking out everyone else). If they have no food or water source they cannot stay inside. As with spiders, ants do no harm so don't go crazy. If they are in my home, I just vacuum them up, simple.

I don't think it's borax, it's Boric Acid powder that works against bugs. I used it when I first moved into an apartment in Manhattan -- I got one of those plastic squeeze ketchup bottles, and used a knife to cut further down the pointy opening (making it larger). Then I crawled around the perimeter of the apartment, squeezing the bottle and poofing the powder into the space between the floor and the wall. Then I poofed the powder into the spaces between cupboards and the walls, around electric outlets -- and anywhere where pipes come through the walls. At first I thought it was useless, because it seemed to do nothing. Give it a week or so. The next week when I vacuumed, I vacuumed up tons of dead pests. Triumph! I hardly saw another one in the whole 12 years I lived there.
