Water survival in the military teaches if you have long pants on! Pull them off, and ties the ends of the legs together... then place the tied legs over behind your head hold the waist and scoop air into the pants. it will fill up like two balloons, hold the waist together with air in it and stay afloat. you can do this all day. :) Mich Lee USMC

Falling off a cruise ship from the top deck, you would experience something similar to those people who jumped off the rising stern of the Titanic. It was even worse for them, because not only was the water -2 degrees celsius, they were wearing the cork life vests typical of those days, and upon hitting the water, the cork would immediately rise up, and hit the person's chin which such force that it broke their neck.

My only concern is how would they know if some has gone overboard on a pitch black dark night. Is there a system in place?

One important thing: if you behave normally on a cruise, you will never fall overboard!

Just a little correction: I work on a Cruise ship by myself. Lifebuoys are mainly not in use to keep overboarded people over water, but to have a obvious mark in the water. Because a yellow or orange ring is much easier to spot than a head over water. That it helps to stay over water is (only) the second function :)
@iVengeancee2 жыл бұрын
Lol. You’re missing out the point here. The device is there to keep the person AFLOAT. The orange and yellow ring is an implementation to help them to be spotted easier. Not the other way round.

Yeah cruise ships are gigantic, have seen a few in Norway and sailed in one which had 11 floors 🙈 cannot imagine falling from there.

That women must be extremely lucky. Falling off from that height suddenly, can easily get your bones broken (because hitting water from high up can feel like hitting concrete).

"The bridge - thats the captains room." What an awful description. The bridge is the control center of the ship for steering, navigation, etc. The "captian's room" has nothing to do with it.
@bd80265 жыл бұрын
Jakob With a K Correct. What’s the captains quarters have to do with bridge operations?
