I finally decided to get serious at reducing my phosphates. I tried everything and it was time to use Brightwell Phosphate E. It worked really well and I am happy with the results. Check out the calculator I used to decide the dosage.

My phosphates are currently at 0.3 ppm what would be the safest way to lower them with this product i have a 24 gallon reef tank mixed coral. Is there a certain amount or time period i have to follow to lower them? Thanks.

I would do a 12 gallon water change and get it to 0.15. That’s the easier math to do.

I’m using HW Reefer right now. I used Brightwell in the past, but now I’m going to switch to Fritz since they had it on sale for a smoking deal. I bought 5 boxes.

Informative video. I just got this and am dosing it with a Peri Pump so I put it in 5 times a day to break up the dosing. Nice to know it works overnight. It is leaves the water so fast I think dosing slowly over time is the way to go to get a consistent readings.
@shallowreefing
@shallowreefing 7 ай бұрын
If you dose slowly I would do it in the overflow so it goes directly into the socks and gets taken out by the skimmer. Like 1.1ml a minute pump would be perfect for this application

Hi! Tysm for this information. U do great at explaining phosphate info…! I’ve been searching KZbin for 2!!! Days about this.. all others. Not so good at devolving the information!😢😢 plz lmk how to understand what my 36 gal tank phosphates should be ? My tanks green n cloudy 😢 so scared to leave this Phos-Orzo hanging in front of my filter for too long also very important to know is what test kit I should get for my 36 gallon tank freshwater that is, to test levels. I have test strips. I do not see the phosphate level covers all things water in my freshwater tank. Tia. ❤ plz Advise. Thank you 🙏🏻

I am doing an update on this as we speak. My entire view on phosphates have changed. But a safe number to shoot for is 0.1 ppm phosphate. I use the Hannah checker to measure it. I believe in a more wholistic approach now where there isn’t just one product that will reduce it to where you want. But it’s more of a multi pronged approach. Reduce feeding, increase filtration, use phosphate E, find the source of your food that has the most phosphates in it and then find a substitute for it. My upcoming video will be done in about 2 weeks. I hope it helps!

Phosphate E works best when put directly into the skimmer neck. This is the way WWC does it and I've done the same for years.

I was at 8.0 and now I'm down to 1.8 I don't know what I'm gonna do and cant bring myself to use this stuff. YET. I bought the cheapest salt I could find and just gonna keep changing it and cleaning marine pure and sand bed. I am FOWLR but I love my fish. I would like to ad coral though.

Popped back up to 0.2 😢. It’s definitely not a long term solution. It’s more to get it down and find other means to keep it down. I may end up dosing it once a month to bring it back down. Still running GFO, phosban, and a cheato trash can 😆
@JCSReefing

@@shallowreefing your not running carbon right? Also, maybe check source water such as ATO for phosphates? Not sure if gfo or phosban would maybe strip the phosphate E out either?
@shallowreefing

@@JCSReefing yeah I run carbon with it. The fresh water is 0 phosphate and a feshmixed saltwater is 0.02 so super minimal. I think it’s from the sand. I’m just gonna up my water change game and always siphon the sandbed.

Refugiums aren't really for phosphates really, it works great to reduce nitrate. Have you ever tried carbon dosing? If you have high nitrate and phosphates, that will work best. Lanthium is hard to get it out once it is in.
@antonyh37
@antonyh37 Жыл бұрын
Not really so. I ran a refugium and tested with hanna and the refugium was so successful it bottomed out my nitrates and phosphates. Tested using hanna checkers. I got dinoflagellates after that. I shut down the refugium shortly after to save the system.

Does not work for fresh water 😢I used a whole bottle in a month in a ten gallon tank with brand new gravel and filled with distilled water was good for a week then off the charts so I tried this stuff no luck 4 platys two filters I feed a little each day it’s gone in one minute. I’m lost

That’s pretty crazy. If I had a 10 gallon tank I would just do water changes. It would be way easier than measuring out all the amounts and testing. Probably way cheaper to do water changes too

Water changes do not help lower phosphate, just nitrate. Your rock has bound phosphate that it immediately releases into the water column to reach equilibrium. This happens within seconds. The lower your phosphate levels, the longer it will take to have a lower equilibrium in the water column. Especially once you are under 0.10 Try diluting the phos-E 1:10 with RODI and slowly drip it or put it on a dosing pump. Check phosphate levels at least every other day.
