Cod4 didnt in my eyes, more like it being entirely neutral towards it, it was subtle and its a bit harder to sympathize when it takes place in a setting that would otherwise be "generic" and you would obviously have to respect the hell ww2 vets went through. But i still don't think cod4 glamorized it TO A DEGREE with the nuke scene, hell you could even debate with the invasion of america in mw2 and 3 that it would show that it isnt entirely difficult to piss the right guy off and spark conflict, the airstrike scene always felt especially off to some people and raycevick kinda made it clear to me specifically, but the question "is cod pro or anti war" has always been dead center, even WaW glamorized it in some fashion, hell its a cod game afterall, not to make this an even longer read but mw wanted to make it CLEAR THAT WAR IS FUCKED UP by rubbing it in your face a million times so the player finally understands it, dont get me wrong though, great game and camp but cod4 with its dated graphics and gloomy color pallete made the nuke scene all the more fucking saddening

@@joeshiesty4613 he is saying you can’t actually gauge the player’s morality with a game that has different endings based on the player’s decisions. the player will not make those decisions because that’s what they want to do, but because that’s what they need to do to achieve the desired ending. especially after the first play through. a game such as WaW with a concrete story that is not impacted by the player’s decisions but has subtle alterations to its characters and narration is a better way to gauge this. although what he is saying is not perfect.

This actually ties into the level "Their Land, Their Blood!" At the start, you can kill, or leave, the wounded Germans in the starting house. Killing them is "bad karma," while leaving them is "good karma." In Eviction (this level) Throwing a molotov is bad, while shooting them, or letting the others do it is good. The first monologue is for two bad actions. The second is for two good actions. The last monologue shown is if you mix one of each.

Call of duty 2 was my first cod game. I loved the little videos that would play before each mission. Like, on the DDAY mission, you’d hear General Eisenhower’s speech and see actual footage from that day, or you’d see footage when playing as the soviets and whatnot. But, this game... they did not hold back. And I love it. To this day, no call of duty has ever been able to achieve the level of grittiness that this game achieved. Not a single person can change my mind on that, either. They showed literal hanging corpses being recorded from that war in the little snippets of footage before each mission. Even the battle plans truly made you feel like you were a part of something bigger. They didn’t censor a single bit, and it added to the game in the end. It was truly a game ahead of its time.

It's not just this scene. It's everytime Reznov/story gives you a moral choice that determines the journals entry. In "Vendetta when he tells you to hold your fire and wait for general Amsel, you can also choose to try and support the soldiers on the ground. In "Their Land, Their Blood" When Reznov says "Maybe our friend can help them bleed faster" at the start the mission you can choose to execute the wounded Germans in the house or leave them. In "Ring of Steel" after you break through the first line of defense, Chernov will mention there are survivor's, too which the Commisar will reply "these animals raped and marauded through the motherland without mercy. They deserve NONE in return!" at which point you can choose to execute the survivor's as you walk through the building, and take part in the firing squad in the alley way or you can choose to leave them. In "Eviction", as you just saw there's the entrance to the metro, but also at the beginning when there's the soldier asking for mercy and the wounded on the street above the metro when Reznov says "wipe the SCUM from the streets" Honestly, this was probably the inspiration for the Black Ops 2 choices.

In my opinion, the best part about this game is the fact it DOESN’T take place in the Western Front. The developers knew that side of the war was done to death, so they made the brilliant decision to only cover the Pacific Theatre and the Eastern Front, which are less familiar, had more vile and atrocious conditions and were fought with extremely-motivated soldiers. This allowed World at War to be MUCH more memorable and unique than any other COD or WW2 FPS and, as a result, it is easily in the top ten best FPS games of all time.
