I'm glad to have appreciative comments like this, but I confess that I also like watching videos of cats freaking out when they see cucumbers.

It seems Haydn doesn't get enough recognition. A god of counterpoint and form. Its stunning how compact and densely packed the music is. Such rapid treatment of material..It totally goes over my head...

I agree! He's a household name, but for some reason is always an afterthought on concert programs, even though his quartets rival those of any other composer.

Mr. Atkinson, what does one say? Haydn is completely brilliant and above all, economical. Not an extra note. Wonderful analysis

I'm amidst deep research on Haydn's symphonic sonata-form movements, I stopped by to have some productive rest and I am almost in tears of amazement at his ingenuity and ability. Knowing how humble he was adds an extra dimension to it. Here I definitely hear the Balkan influence he got over the years! Thanks for sharing.

Creo que no hay un músico que haya llevado tan lejos el equilibrio entre una música que nos hace vivir mejor, con Alegría y sin miedo, y que al mismo tiempo es un reto al intelecto. Viva Haydn, una de las mejores personas que han existido!!

here's something i find interesting - at 7:05, to me it sounds like the first and second violin overlap (which they do, but not really in the same way) and i end up hearing it as if that held A in the second violin is part of the first violin's melody. maybe its just because that particular melodic gesture of the melody leaping down by a fifth to the third of a chord is one of my favorite sounds, and its permanently etched into my brain from abusing it so much, but that moment always sticks out like a sore thumb to me. its a gesture i associate with abrupt shifts to a tender section, i guess.

I really wish you would analyze a chamber work by Boccherini. His music is often overlooked but possesses such an intrinsic value of its own that's I really don't know why people don't give it as much attention as the works of Haydn and Mozart.

Here are some analyses I think could be interesting: Introitus from Mozart Requiem Sorcerer's Apprentice (VERY interesting harmonically) Fugue 20 in A minor from WTC book 1

Can you do an analysis on the fugues in Beethoven’s Misha Solemnis?
@Richard.Atkinson

I may do that at some point. Especially the Gloria!

That's great to hear. I wrote an essay a few years back comparing the 'in gloria dei patris' fugue in Haydn's Missa solemnis, the 'cum sancto spiritu' fugue in Mozart's Great Mass, and the Gloria fugue from Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. That was one of the most satisfying pieces of work I've ever done, and I'd like to hear your take on the Gloria fugue since I feel my analysis was insufficient.

Man, why don't you have patreon yet? Also, I'm curious about the BWV 911. Please?
@Richard.Atkinson

My videos use copyrighted recordings, so I can't monetize them. I could do patreon, but I will likely make these even if people don't contribute. I'd rather have people share my videos widely than give me money.

Richard Atkinson Think of it this way: say 500 people decide to give you a euro each month on patreon. You can then afford a new microphone, maybe a better pc for editing faster - making videos faster, wasting you less time. And if your videos are of (technically) better quality, more people will watch them - and therefore share them. Do it for the musical youth, desirous of learning ;)

4:38 I think e Minor is not correct. its rather a 46 a minor chord resolving into the dominant of e major
@Richard.Atkinson
@Richard.Atkinson 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand which part you're talking about. At 4:38, there's a dominant E pedal tone that finally resolves to A minor in measure 148, but like I said, the music is still in A minor even prior to measure 148. I'm not sure how this relates to what you wrote.
