On a different topic but related to the principles of a good golf swing. Shawn ( and all other instructors) tell us that maximum club head speed shoud be after the ball, and not at the ball. I always scratched my head on that one. Logically the club headspeed that matters is at the moment of impact. Basically, if the club face is 100 miles per hour at impact, with a smash factor of 1.5, the ball will leave the club face at 150 miles per hour and that is it. If the club continues to accelerate after impact, it cannot impart more speed to the ball as it is no longer in contact with it. Even if the club head reached 120 miles per hour at release after the ball, it does not matter to the ball. The speed at which the face struck it was 100 miles per hour at impact, not 120. The only I can somehow make sense of it is that if you try for maximum speed after the ball, you will maximize club speed at impact. For instance,if I try to hit at the ball for maximum speed I may reach only 90 miles per hour at impact, while if I try to accelerate through the ball I may get 100 miles per hour at impact. For me the only way this makes sense is that if there is an intent to reach maximum club headspeed past impact., the speed at impact will be higher that it would have been if I intended to get maximum clubhead speed at impact. i do not know if that makes sense, but I know for sure that the speed at the moment of impact is the one that gives its speed to the ball. Anyone is welcome to provide an answer as I really want to understand here.
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
There you go Michel! If the INTENT is to deliver the action that will collect the ball from where it is and release the ball to where you want it to go, you get much more speed. It is all about focus. If the ball is your target, the brain is getting ready to slow down SOONER. The kinetic chain of the body is incredible and just needs the proper command. In hockey you don’t slap at the puck, you slap the puck to the net. You serve the ball to the service box on the other side of the net. You bat the ball to the outfield. You deliver the golf ball into a flight plan that has it land and roll into the hole. YOU WILL HAVE MORE SPEED AT IMPACT IF THE INTENT IS THROUGH IMPACT AND TOWARDS THE TARGET.

I added some neon pink tape to the top of my driver and 3w a few years ago when I was playing a lot of twilight rounds. Yes it works for me, I put a dot of white paint on the top edge of each club, take into account where the sweet spot is at address ( with the ball in front of iron in relation to line of sight ). It helps me set my ball the same spot every stroke = straighter shots.
@njosephg3 жыл бұрын
Shawn, I have recently changed my grip to a stronger grip basically the same as SAV's grip. I LOVE it, for my irons, I feel compression and increased distance not to mention almost completely eliminated fat or thin shots, with my irons. (I have lost my draw a bit, but I believe with practice can come back to drawing balls with my irons). I am unsure and or still have awkward feelings about the same grip with my driver. I do believe my mental problem lies with myself trying to kill the ball. Instead of trying to just hit it or "collect and fire it into the direction I want". Is this normal, and or maybe too strong a grip for me with my driver?

Or was this observation a camera angle illusion?

If you watch the club face at the top of the backswing, this would be considered very closed; like Dustin Johnson. Page 14 USGA 2020 Equipment Rules: https: //www.usga.org/content/dam/usga/pdf/Equipment/Equipment%20Rules%202020%20v2.pdf • Attachments to the clubhead (other than the face), such as protective coverings, decorative items or alignment aids, provided the item is semipermanent. However, such items must not excessively protrude from the clubhead and must conform to the shape of the clubhead. Also, for driving clubs, such attachments must not serve to cause any confusion with the correct identification of a club on the List of Conforming Driver Heads. Such attachments should, therefore, be subtle, plain in appearance and discreetly positioned. Permanent additions to a clubhead would be considered part of the head and, therefore, the head, in its modified state, would have to conform to Part 2, Section 4 of the Equipment Rules (i.e. for dimensions and “plain in shape”). The two long-standing permissible “external attachments” are (a) the permission to use lead tape on the shaft or the head for weighting, and (b) the use of a suction cup at the end of the grip of a putter to assist with retrieving the ball from the hole. While lead tape can affect the performance of the club and a rubber suction cup would exceed the diameter of the butt end of the grip, the use of both of these items continue to be permitted on a traditional basis (but see Section 4b(i) below for details on the use of lead tape on driver heads with a high Moment of Inertia).

All you need to do is come over here and see for yourself! Plenty of guys longer than me but not many get as much out of their speed as I do! Today was 110-111 MPH and 310 yards total at 280 carry. After this winter’s workouts it will go up to 115 MPH and 325. Shawn

I’m really sorry, the idea is great but Jesus Christ that first swing, the action, the impact is terrifying

Wow.. This is unbelievable...Sav is hitting drives longer than any woman on the LPGA? Far further than Lexi even! Really? What is she doing in Clement's hangar?
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Make no mistake, Lexi can bust it out there! Savy would definitely be in the top 10 in distance on tour and we are working on her scoring in competition as we speak. She has been a soccer player her whole life and is now hooked on golf for the last 3 years and we will see where that leads us. It has been a real treat so far!

You're telling us Sav is hitting drives further than every LPGA player but Anne van Dam? Quick... Work on her irons and putting... Driving Distance LPGA 2021 Rank Player Driving Distance 1 Anne van Dam 291.29 2 Bianca Pagdanganan 284.04 3 Lexi Thompson 279.44 4 A Lim Kim 279.21

Can I legally put these lines on my driver? Setting up with the ball towards the toe makes me so mad
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
No issues with paint jobs and decals on the clubs; you simply cannot change it DURING the round either way.
@golflessons3 жыл бұрын
Edel had a collection of decals you could put on the driver to imitate the ones they have on their putters for alignment purposes; don’t know what happened to that…the difference here is we are framing the ball dynamically instead of lining up to a static ball. The key is to not try and manipulate the swing to “make sure” you do that; just predict and observe and witness.

@@golflessons I put masking tape on top of it to frame the sweet spot.
