On Part Three, Original Van Ness Boy, which turf would become Van Ness Gangsta Brims in coming years, talks about the control over Crenshaw High School in the Fall of 1972 and 1973. The Principal referred to the school as Fort Crenshaw because the violence between the Brims and west Side Crips had gotten so bad. Michael also talks about Magnificent 7 Chuckie Madison and Rapper/Actor Ice T.
At seventeen, Michael would meet Thomas "Tootie" Reese, the Godfather of black drug kingpins, and was impressed with his tremendous wealth. After he became a member of Tootie's organization, Michael would have all the money that he had ever dreamed of. But the death of his best friend, Raul, to gang violence, changed the course of his life. He was plotting the murder of Raul's killer when the government took his freedom.
In prison, education changed Michael's life. He began to understand how his actions and the actions of those he knew and associated with were destroying black neighborhoods, and he became a social activist. His desires changed from wanting to be wealthy by any means necessary to wanting to save underserved neighborhoods from self-destructing, and to help young men and women convert their misguided street ambition into entrepreneurship.

To Kev Mac from Oran from Oakland. i absolutely remember the 1971 Crenshaw basketball team. I went to Berkeley High and the Berkeley High 1971 basketball team met Crenshaw high for the TOC of California. Berkeley High Basketball team was undefeated that year and we played Crenshaw high for the Championship and the last game of the season Berkeley High Basketball team ran Crenshaw high into the ground. Your center name was Poindexter got his hat given to him by John Lambert our center. Great game and We won the California 1971 TOC from Crenshaw High. Go YELLOW JACKETS THE GREATEST CALIFORNIA BASKETBALL TEAM EVER. UNDEFEATED THE WHOLE SEASON.

In the words of Dana Dane from the song Cinderfella… "Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!" I was loving your post. I could feel the sincerity and the love for competition while reminiscing on your high school years . But you lost me when you stated “the best California basketball team ever..” You’re talking to a guy who went to Crenshaw in 1985 when we not only went undefeated but won the World Title. We took city and state before representing the United States in the International School Sports Championship in Denmark and won all six games by an average of 92 points. Now who had the greatest basketball team in California again??

@@KevMacVideos OK player i stand corrected. But what about the other things i was saying about Black gang members idolizing Tookie, Ray, monster and other killers of black people while the panthers tried to make a better life for our people. Never do i hear anybody from a gang talk about Huey Newton, Fred Hampton out of Chitown and Angela Davis or elaine brown. Can you enlighten me cause i just don't get it. I even try to teach these Cambodian people black history, language, signs and lingo. These Cambodians want to learn while my own people tell me i am a old head and life has passed me by. SAD

I didn’t notice anything about gang members and the panthers in this post. However, you’re right, most gang members don’t normally talk about the aforementioned in interviews and I don’t know why. But I know OG Cutes talks about them, T Rodgers (rip) used to talk about them, and most others speak of them off camera. A better question would be why doesn’t Angela Davis want to do a interview, why won’t some of the elder panthers do a interview. There’s an obvious disconnect in the line of communication and education.

@@KevMacVideos from Oran from Oakland: When i see your videos you act like you admire those black gang killers like Tookie, Ray, Moinster and the gangs they represent. I just got one question to ask you. Would you want your son to grow up like Tookie, Ray, T Rodgers, or monster? Just yes or no. I have two kids and i made sure they weren't going that gang route. i don't admire gangs or gang life. I would rather my kids grow up admiring DF, King, Malcolm, Ali, Medger Evers, Rosa Parks Angela Davis Huey Newton All my life i tried to make the generation brhind me have a better life than what i had. Now the thanks I get is that i am a old head, life has passed me by. i am living in the past. So now i say nothing. You know like I know YOU ADMIRE PEOPLE LIKE RAYMOND, TOOKIE, MONSTER AS SOME GHEETO HEROS. All these people did was do what the whiteman did KILL BLACK PEOPLE. I GUESS YOU ALSO ADMIRE NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST? DO YOU KNOW WHO NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST WAS? HALA BACK IF YOU GOT TIME..

If someone tells you we didn't bang in the D during the 70s, they don't know their history. BKs, Flynns, Latin King Sconi, Chene Gang, T Stone, FA, PA, 7 Mile Doggs, 7 Mile BKs. On and on. What always puzzled me is, sinbad claimed tookie was shot in the head in front of crenshaw high. I've never heard or read about that incident before, so i've always asked myself whether it was fact or ficition. Was tookie shot in the early 70s or not? And i'm not talking about the incident in compton ca. 1976...elgin claims tookie was shot in the head in about 73

@@joemosely9383 well it could have been in 70, 71, 72 aswell, elgin didn't say a spefic year. Did tookie get shot in the head with a .22 in front of crenshaw high or not? Edit: it was sindbad not elgin

@@joemosely9383 i don't think sindbad would get such incidents confused. In 1976 tookie was shot in the leg with a 45 caliber in compton Sindbad said tookie was shot in the head with a 22, and then invented the turban style bandana to cover up his head wound. Sindbad seems way too coherrent to make such a mistake. But maybe it was someone else who was shot in front of crenshaw. It hat to be in 1970-1973 because sindbad was from the chain gang. It's still mysterious to me. Sindbads account seems credible and coherrent, but no one else ever mentioned it. And kev mac doesn't seem to bring it up either, and ask cutes about it. Maybe it',s sectet or something. i think it's odd.

@@space_dogg Sin-Bad is too young to be a Chain Gang. He was Born in 1960. Unless Tookie Got Shot in the Head in Inglewood or By an CG or IF, ill take Sin-Bad's story with a grain of salt. Tookie got Shot by The Pirus in Compton in 1976 and that was Spoke In Volume. Tookie was a Trophy. Top of the List to get Hit. Gangs Prize knocking down Reptibles, no Secrets if an enemy shot Tookie in the Head. Major Points and Bragging Rights, just like in Compton. It would be all over the Grapevine. I even know vng'$ has been on the other side of slauson, and kept post if ask me

Well it is indeed a fact that several VNG was south of Slauson and a couple of them turned Rollin 60s. He, himself even lived south of slauson. Keep in mind… Van Ness Ave runs through 60s turf and there wasn’t any 60s until 5 years after VNG. So his question was valid. In fact, Michael didn’t want to throw anyone under the bus so he chose not to say some names. Enjoy your day.

To Kev Mac: My name is Oran I am using my wife's account here. Hey Kev, i got a question to ask you? How do black gangs admire someone like Tookie Willams, Raymond Washington, Monster Kody but say absolutely nothing about Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, Fred Hampton ect. Did you know that the Crips and the Bloods have killed more young blacks than the KKK and the police combinded? That's outrageous. These gang members idealise black killers who kill their own people but say nothing about the Black Panthers who tried to make a better life for our people. See kev i am a lot older than you are. I am almost 70 and when i was a teenager and young man i ran with the Oakland Black Panther party for self-defense. How do you glorify killers like Tookie, T Mack Rodgers and Monster Kody but you say nothing about people like Angela Davis, and Elaine Brown Huey Newton and just forget about them? Kev you are one of the most talented articulate well-spoken and intelligent people on youtube. So could you please takeout a few minutes in your busy day and try to explain to me why all these black gang members are killing each other like dogs, idolize people like Tookie Williams, Monster Kody, Bare Foot Pookie, Raymond Washington but say absolutely nothing about Huey newton, Geronimo Pratt Angela Davis Elaine Brown. I just don't get it. By the way i used to live in Oaktown but now i live in Siem Reap Cambodia and love every minute of it. These Cambodian women just love black American men. have mercy. Halla back at me player. Oran from Oakland

This platform doesn’t exist for that topic. Although it’s been mentioned, in regards to white flight, and cultural elements pre-Crip era numerous times. If you want to talk about black history, create a platform, and dudes like me will subscribe and chime in, no question. But that ain’t the topic here. A’se

Didn't a lot of them Panthers become junkies, jealous of one another, etc? I don't know if this is idolizing as much as collecting and recording the origins and history of Los Angeles gang culture... We can idolize the Panthers, but same as any other fallible human; they fell short. No need knocking these brothers in favor of those
