Bring the Windows 10 Taskbar & System Tray BACK in Windows 11 24H2

One thing I hate about the normal task bar is you cannot tell Windows to give you icons, but not combine them. The lack of choice in this OS whilst not having a satisfying default drives me nuts.

I like Explorer Patcher (EP) but my system got so fubar'd after a Windows update that I was left with no choice but to do a complete format and reinstall of the OS and abandon EP altogether. Since then I paid a few bucks for Start11 and haven't had any problems with conflicts between that and Windows updates the past few years. Although, I'm still in no hurry to update to 24H2 all the same.

I've still not upgraded to Windows 11 for this and a few other reasons. It is Exhausting trying to restore functionality they have removed, being such an anti-user company. Like you, I need to use it for several reasons but each day, each week, each year that passes I get closer to closing the door on Microsoft

I've said this before.. I updated once to Win 11, and within 5 minutes reverted back to WIn 10, Why? Because I couldn't make the Task Bar Small... Any other reason? Nope.. That's 100% why I still use WIn 10. All I want is Win 10, but next year I have no choice.. Which means I'll go to Linux Mint (Already have my customers, and dad on it) however, I'll have to more than likely change my hardware around to do this.. (FTW3 1080Ti, Corsair XT Fan+RGB Hub, Corsair Mouse, Corsair Virtuoso XT, Corsair Dominator RAM, ASUS Z490I.. etc etc) I don't imagine these parts are going to get along with Linux.. AT ALL, and as much as I love the idea of Linux I don't want to completely change my hardware for it.. SO, when I'm told that Win 11 has the ability to change the Taskbar size I'll give it a shot, but until then.. No way in hell I'm touching that garbage O.S. May not be a popular opinion, but Win 10 has been my favorite O.S, by a long shot.. Going to be rough to see it go..

Try 'Windhawk'. I've been using that since going to win 11. Tons of changes available including task bar sizing...under 'task bar height and icon size'

There's always windows IoT enterprise ltsc which gets updates till '31. Not sure how much functionality it'll have till then but I noticed alot of people talking about it on YT lately, perhaps that'll be a good choice till you get comfortable using Linux! Just trying to help is all

The one thing I REALLY miss in Windows 11 is the File Explorer. New one scxks. I found a workaround - launch Control Panel and hit the "up" button, you somehow get the old / good Explorer. WHY did they screw with this?

I think all you need to do, to just turn off "unwanted app blocking" in defender and epatcher should not be blocked without needing white list it.

As always, I enjoy these type of videos that show what windows from Microsoft has became and will continue to be until their market share drops below 50% for desk top operating systems. It is also nice that I have been running a Linux distro full time for the last 3 to 4 years now, and have never had the need to look back sense...

The more of these stupid things MS implements in W11, the less reason for me to upgrade. I'm still using W10 and I do not want W11 on my machine. I'm curious what the majority of people next year are gonna do who have a non TPM-Compatible machine and MS basically forces people to spend actual money on new hardware. Kind of really hoping for a healthy boost for the Linux community. I'm definitely considering switching to Manjaro or Mint fulltime at this point.

1:00 The Windows subreddit says that whokeys are not legitimate OEM keys. Supposedly they are from MSDN/Academic/MAPS/BizSpark type channels. Since 2012, surplus OEM keys don't exist outside of the physical one-license packages in rectangular white cardboard envelopes/COA & media kit. If you buy a Win11 key online, Microsoft will send send the key to you directly. Idk, just passing it along. Maybe someone else can chime in.

You're saying that it's not legitimate ⁉ I have purchased keys from all over the globe from as little as $1 to as much as $22, but I have never once purchased a key from Microsoft, nor would I ever at their $130 plus nonsense! Every key I have ever purchased legitimately worked every time. The last 2 keys I got from a "groupon" deal for $11 each. I bought two just to have a spare for my next build. One of them is verified and currently in use. They're all legitimate from my experience, and I've got at least a dozen now worth of said experience. Cheers 🍻

OEM is gray market. The idea of them being "legitimate," or not doesn't really matter. They work. They come from a variety of places. I actually got a retail thai key from them, so I am lucky. I'm very against Microsoft's inflated prices and I've used gray market keys myself since Windows XP

On Linux, if the developers of the desktop environment (DE) you use make a change you really hate, you can actually just switch to any other alternative, or even an older version. The operating system and the DE are separate. You can even choose to not run a DE. That is the kind of user freedom that Micro$oft hate. They allow you only one DE. And you need to take it, be happy or else. They don't even name it, though "explorer.exe" is the most central component, so that's one name, I suppose. They only briefly gave you an even worse option with the Metro DE. Well.. at least they named Metro. [/rant]

Linux doesn't have Mixed Reality support though sadly only Windows does unless Mark Zuckerberg fixes that for that matter I am just about to do everything with my Smartphone and in Mixed Reality since Meta Quest 3 supports wireless keyboards BTW I know WMR portal is deprecated I am talking about Meta devices which only works on Windows as of now unless you can find a work around I will delete it for Garuda Linux, EndeavourOS, or ChachyOS.

If you’re gonna use windows you have to accept that you don’t own your os and you never will. If you want more control Linux and openBSD are both options but I know some people can’t switch.
