I run the same G-Skill Trident Z5 Neo kit in DDR 5 6000Mhz Cl30 that HUB uses, it was a 32GB kit bought in 2023 prices, still about the same at $112.99 on Newegg.
@nateTrh2 сағат бұрын
Issue is Intel kneecapped the ring bus clock because it was probably the reason why 13th and 14th gen chips were frying themselves to death. This just means that memory speed just doesn't do much for gaming and daily tasks anymore. I'm just happy that Ryzen is optimized for cheap stuff like 6000-6400 low latency ram.
@manmansgotmans2 сағат бұрын
The 6000MHz cl36 DDR5 will probably be the memory sweetspot until DDR6 ram arrives, it's basically the 3600MHz DDR4 all over again in the sense that you know it will be good til it's phased out

The last time I was this early Meteor & Arrow Lake both sounded good on MLiD's channel. Sapphire Rapids fix seemed to consist of reducing tile count to 2 or 3, basically glueing together monolithic sized dies. Presumably the problem with Sapphire Rapids, Meteor and Arrow Lake is down to the special brew low latency glue Intel cooked up.

what a mess, from Intel as a premium company to a something that seems completely improvised, everything seems a patch of a patch, first the "efficiency cores" and removing AVX512, then removing SMT ... while still using lots of power and not able to compite on gaming performance ...
@Ivan-pr7ku2 сағат бұрын
Well, they left AVX-VNNI at least (one of the gazillion AVX512 extensions), although that NPU kind of nullifies its use case.
@lharsay2 сағат бұрын
I heard they removed HT because the development team couldn't get it working it was so broken.
@markhackett23022 сағат бұрын
@@lharsay But by "Broken" I suspect it was the Ring Bus couldn't get the faster speed needed to keep those cores fed, and trying to force it was why 14th Gen and the voltage fried (permanently) the raptor cove chips, and to avoid that, they had to dial back the bus speed, to keep the voltage in check. And therefore it was either starve those threads OR not have SMT.

This seems to confirm what Moore's Law Is Dead reported yesterday: "The worst part about Arrow Lake is, according to every single tech tuber and game developer I spoke to who has their hands on it, the thing doesn't work. [...] I've had other people tell me that they've had constant blue screening issues, and even issues with games booting them out of online servers, because the Ultra 9 was detected as running some kind of cheating code even though it wasn't. It's so bad that I happen to know that multiple reviewers are even wondering if there's a hardware flaw in Arrow Lake causing these instability problems."

I'm surprised they got rid of HyperThreading, it was a long-standing optimization to avoid parts of cores sitting idle while the core itself is busy with other things. I'd be very curious to know what motivated that change, have they come up with a radically different pipeline that can parallelize much better, or did they just trade the die space for other components like more L1 cache?
@markhackett23022 сағат бұрын
What motivated them? Ring bus. Throttling CPU cores at high speed.
@BtappinHD3 сағат бұрын
It probably has something to do with the hyper threading. The system is now limited to 8 p-cores, 8 threads with options to shovel other things to the e-cores. The problem is previously, the system used to be able to use 8-pcores, 16 threads, so it has more space to efficiently schedule tasks on the p-cores. E-cores are handling tasks that used to be on the p-cores' threads, so now we're seeing slowdowns in CPU intensive areas. The only solution would be to fine-tune the tasks that go to the p-cores and the ones that are allowed to go to the e-cores since they're working with less p-cores now. This reminds me of the downgrade from a 4-core 8-thread i7-4670K to a 4-core 4-thread i5-4570K. i7 obviously performs much better. Hopefully a windows update is enough for this, but I'm nervous that developers will be required to update their games to efficiently use this new architecture.
@douglasmurphy32663 сағат бұрын
No doubt, I wonder if you could take a quad-core, like an i3-14100 and see the same games that take a giant hit here have a similar relative loss in performance versus the games it excels at.
@JakkoTB43 минут бұрын
Great video. What stands out is that in the CPU intensive gaming benchmarks where Arrow Lake performs way under expectations, both power draw and cpu temperature follow the downward trend, yet cpu usage does not. It all points towards Windows/Intel/Game Engines not scheduling cores in the most effective way, similarly to what we saw on Ryzen/Windows not too long ago. I expect patches to be incoming, or that's what I hope at least, for the sake of healthy competition.
