Lots going on at D-Lab electronics. Still kicking out repairs on cool tube amps. I hope you have all enjoyed my past productions. Now things have changed. D-lab steps into a new journey. I decided to leave my day job and run the shop 100%. This will step up completion time, plus allow me to produce better video content for you to enjoy. I plan to roll this dice for a while. If it turns into disaster, I guess that corporate America could be a back up plan, assuming I'm not to old and obsolete. I have always believed that the shop could support Marcia & I. Now its time to see. If you want to help support me via repairs or donations, that would be greatly appreciated. I really want this to be a success, so I can serve you more efficiently.
Note: The filter caps and other classic components can be ordered from amplifiedparts.com

I've got one of those, a '73. The tube heater/pilot light circuit is wired phase-to-ground which makes it more susceptible to RFI. I'll be re-wiring that to a phase-to-phase configuration as Fenders normally were wired. I'll also add a push-pull volume pot (1 meg) for a switched negative feedback. The neg feedback is currently disconnected. That little amp got real ballsy with the negative feedback disconnected. The same speaker as the one in this video is in my amp.

Thanks for the great gain tip! I've had a love/hate relationship with my 64 Vibro Champ clone and recently rebuilt it, finding your tip after the fact. I'd already been slowing down the tremolo (works on a Princeton Reverb too), which is super cool. Last night, I swapped the v1 resistors as suggested.. holy moly!! All love for the amp now. It came alive!! Mine is in a Mojotone cabinet with a 12" Celestion Blue.. good match for the amp now. Building a 6L6 version now with big ass transformers, choke and more power filtering.. with this gain mod, it should be awesome! You got some skills! Hope your repair business has taken off!!

Terry you have always shown that you do what has to be done to pay the bills and it is scary to take that leap of faith to embark on a new direction! If you didn’t have years of experience and talent for electronics, it might be a bigger gamble. You ARE capable to make a great living just repairing amps and radios. Remember, that’s how Leo Fender got started! I commend you on doing D-Lab full time! More guitar amp repairs. You need to keep Tony on the ball! Love from your buddy in NW Colorado. Thanxz

Congrats man. I'm trying to teach myself how to repair ham, CB radios, but not limiting to that. I love vintage stuff. Ever since I got my Extra Class ham license I want to work on radios and open up my own shop. Any tips and tricks would be greatly apricated. I lack troubleshooting, but getting better. I have a whole bunch of Sam's Photofacts for CB radio and some service manuals.
@bobblum5973
@bobblum5973 2 жыл бұрын
Terry's techniques tend to apply to all vintage electronics, whether you're talking about tube or solid state, and guitar amps, ham or CB radios. Obviously the specifics change. But it sounds like you're doing the right things: finding documentation, asking the right questions, realizing your limitations but being willing to take the time and gain experience. Books can be found online or at used bookstores, or your local public library. Amateur radio books and online forums will help to learn radio theory and can be applied to CB. Be careful since there are a lot of people who claim to know more than they do. Terry has shown many cases of poorly done "upgrades" and repairs, so keep watching his videos to learn not just what he does, but why he does it. Good luck, and enjoy yourself!

Enjoyed the video Terry! Concerning your comment about angry viewers...if it was only about the videos and watching as a viewer only, none of us really has a reason to gripe about it, since having a "real job" along with doing the work that you love requires us as viewers to understand that everything you do takes time, and working a job along with family matters and the "fun stuff" for us, delays are to be expected from time to time. Doing a repair for someone on their equipment and charging them for your labors would understandably take longer with a day job than doing nothing but the repairs alone. Now, if it were MY equipment that you were working on, well of course I would expect it to be repaired and in top-notch shape a week before I send it to you... ;-) but seriously, I would have concerns about time but I think, and hope, that I would be more understanding than most...and as long as the timeframe wasn't stretching into years I think I would. I have a rig that I wish I could afford to have you repair, but it is way beyond my ability to afford. It is an ART-13 transmitter. That reminds me, I don't have a power supply for it either. Dang! Anyway, I really enjoy your videos and wish you the very best in your endeavors with the new changes you are making!!! 73! WB4RHA
