Thank you so much Brianna and I am very happy to taken the halter off! Like you I have heard and seen way too many injuries to horses due to halters being left on. You can be sure we always take our off as soon as we are not “working” with them! 💗

I have learned a valuable technique from your horses for dealing with someone who jumps in front of me and tries to bully me. I'll keep my feet planted in place. I'll casually reach down and start nibbling on some grass or just smell the ground if there is no grass. I'll act as if I don't even notice them. But I'll tuck my butt a little and prepare to kick, if I have to.

Love the video. One recommendation from personal experience: I can't really tell but the windows in the horse trailer look to be open with bars across, and I would always make sure to have some kind of metal screen on the open window especially were the horse is standing. We used to trailer our horses with all the windows open (barred of course) because of the heat, however one trip a rock was thrown into the window from a car tire passing by and cut our horse 3 inches wide above the eye. If it had been any lower he would have lost that eye entirely. He was stitched up and ok, after a lot of blood and fuss. From my bad experience I hope to give you some helpful advice!!!! Or at least a full face fly visor for some protection. 😊
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And thank you for the story. I don't travel with the windows down for multiple reasons but I'm curious, how do you know it was a rock? I've seen horses cut themselves on the inside of the trailer somewhere. Glad to hear everything turned out ok for the horse
@shugar8204
@shugar8204 6 жыл бұрын
@@StableHorseTraining We assumed it was a rock due to the window being open and nothing inside the trailer that could have cut him so deep and harsh. Perhaps it wasn't a rock? It was our only logical solution after looking into everything.
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 6 жыл бұрын
I have no idea, could very well have been a rock. I was just curious as to how you knew with maybe a camera or you found a rock in the trailer or something. It's good advice either way, so thank you again for sharing!

I feel the opposite where I'm amazed people tolerate picking up a ramp all the time to put their horses in and out and have to clean it off to close it instead of just having one or two doors to open easily and have the horse hop up a height equivalent to a small log.

I watched your video on boots and was wondering since Bear is wearing only 1 boot how long it takes a horse to adjust his balance to compensate for the added height of the boot. Wouldn’t it be better to wear 4 so the horse doesn’t start walking wonky? Also how tight does the Velcro have to be to hold the boot in place especially those around the fetlock? I can’t find the other video about the boots again otherwise I would post my questions there. I really enjoy your videos and style of filming and narrating.
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 6 жыл бұрын
@@mogauthier1000 Doesn't take long at all and they don't walk wonky. Boots should fit very snug. That boot was replaced by a better fitting one after he settled in after that play time.

It's a cavallo hoof boot. I personally NEVER use them but he came with it because he ripped off his front shoes caught on a fence and that was on to protect his foot a bit. I trimmed him, cleaned him up and booted him with an easyboot from Easycare which fits much better and keeps stuff out that might get in the cracks. His foot grew out great, no problems.

how to introduce a horse to a herd with 20+ horses? I’m terrified that they will hurt my horse 😩
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 6 жыл бұрын
There is a decent chance of that happening. If there is lots of space and your horse is quick then it'll likely be ok though. Just stay out of the way. If there is a way to introduce a few at first, that sometimes works out better
@roseyry9248
@roseyry9248 6 жыл бұрын
Stable Horse Training she has two other mares at home and the other one is the leader, she is quick and there is a lot of space for her to run away but I don’t know how will she react with that many horses around her. I think it’s good that she is not the leader of a herd at home because she is not ‘bossy’, but I think that she never kickes back, as far as I’ve seen, she goes away or moves.... Once they have put my friends horse (he was also new) in the same herd I’m putting mine, and he was just standing in the middle and they were all around bullying him and he had bites on his skin and his fur was bitten off. He didn’t defend himself and I’m terrified that my mare would do the same and that they will hurt her bad. :/

A horse that knows how and when to move will fit in just fine. It's the resistant ones that get themselves into trouble. You can count on her getting small bits and pieces missing out of her, that's totally normal.

oh wait isn't that a boot to repair a hoof? i can't remember what it's called
@StableHorseTraining
@StableHorseTraining 7 жыл бұрын

I realize this is a 5 yr old video BUT, Is the new horses right front hoof larger that the left? It sure looks like it! Checked the rest of the comments and no one else mentioned it so perhaps no difference in the hooves. Or maybe it is just a difference in movement???? HHhhmmm.

He threw a shoe before coming here, so he was sensitive on it. The owner booted it to be extra careful.

No problem. If you scroll down the comments a bit you'll see that many others have been worried like you, I think that's great as we always encourage people to make some great observations. The main concern is what's on his foot. It's a boot actually and was put on there because he pulled a shoe off a day before he came here and we're protecting his foot a bit where the hoof wall got thin. It's a proactive thing more than really required but makes sure that he keeps some protection on the area for if he bumps it somewhere. Overall as you can see that he's running around pretty good, so no real harm was done.

It’s often horse dependent. So far two of our mares are very calm and welcoming to anyone new.

Stable Horse Training Thank you for trying to educate me, however, I understand horses quite well. I said that light heartedly and jokingly, as I am fully aware every horse is different. I also say that mares are more sassy because of personal experience. I was raised on a broodmare farm and now I train barrel horses. So the mares I deal with usually have the tendency to be a little more aggressive since there are babies involved.
@StableHorseTraining

So you find them more protective and defensive? Not sure what sassy means here.

aww 🥰 they’re pretty much cute, friendly and playful 😈 but are they twin siblings? and I also want to know if one of them is either a male stallion and I also just want to know if wether or not the other one ☝️ is another male (stallion) or perhaps a female (mare) horse 🐎 and they are such sweet, cute and sociable creatures that one day I really want to gently hold and hug 🫂 one of them one of these days and bond with it which one of my top biggest, excellent dreams to follow.
