The World Trade Center - Once the tallest skyscrapers in the world. prospering in an astronomical measure of 1368 ft. - 417 meters. Since its opening on April 4th, 1973, it was a complex of 5 other buildings - WTC 3-7.
On September 11th, 2001, everything changed. Not just for the World Trade Center, but for all of New York and the world. 16 hijackers took control of 4 airplanes and crashed them into landmarks of the USA; The World Trade Center (both 1 & 2) and the Pentagon. However, a fourth flight (Flight 93,) destined to reach its target (presumably the Capitol), failed after the valiant takedown of the hijackers by the passengers of the flight.
The World Trade Center, after being both hit by the airplanes, collapsed into debris and rubble. With heavy smoke billowing in the streets of Lower Manhattan, poisoning the lives of many. In the end, the destruction was done.
Over 3,000 people died.
However, years after 9/11, the idea of a new World Trade Center complex was up to debate. However, in a way, it developed speculation and controversy. Many people wanted a stronger and larger build of the original Twin Towers. Others wanted a new tower to arouse from the complex (called Ground Zero at that time.) Yet some wanted nothing.
In the end, everyone got a little bit of something that they wanted.
By late 2015, One World Trade Center was completed, at a height of 1,776 ft., the number nodding to the year America gained its independence.
Today, new plans for the site are still being experimented with. Businessmen, tourists, or civilians are coming to the complex every day. It is a new place of resilience and prosperity.
But in an important sense, we must remember what happened here. What took place nearly 20 years ago. We must always give our respects to the lost ones on 9/11.
