Glad you have decided to keep the car original, I'm sure you will attract more potential buyers by doing so. I have to say your standard of workmanship and attention to detail never fail to impress. well done !

You're doing absolutely the right thing keeping it standard 😁

OMG those wheels look 😍- I agree that it would look better when the suspension at the standard ride height.

Now you've shown it with 17" alloys on, I do actually prefer the look to the standard alloys it came with. Shame that the coilover experiment didn't work but I'm sure it will look good with standard suspension back on. I know last week I said keep it standard but now you made me change my mind especially regarding the alloys 😉 cheers for the vlog Johnny & look forward to the next 1 👍🏻

I knew I would be playing devils advocate fitting the 17’s in this video but I couldn’t not do it whilst the car was sat on coilovers! Who doesn’t appreciate a low 90’s Ford on big wheels?!

I do like it with the 17s on it, looks much better. That's a rewarding job, i recently refreshed the arches of my Focus, and was horrified at how much mud was hiding behind the arch liner.
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
Agreed. It’s one of those jobs that no one else will know has been done at a glance but you will know your arches are mint and that is somehow a great feeling 😂

I’d keep the coil overs on Jonny having seen it, but maybe get some escort cosworth wheels just to temper the look. I mean it’s a loud car, and so you either go “lady going to shops” look, or beef it up a little. You can keep all the original bits and sell them with the car. I’d go for the OEM+ look, reckon you’ll get more enjoyment out of the project, sell it more easily (as long as it’s not too overly modified).

Do not delete that black stripe on sills. It matches the rubber part on front bumper and makes the car visually lighter (being a convertible with added metal braces on chassis). Keep it stock.
@Klingon24685 ай бұрын
Like the work you did in the arches they looked great. Did not like the way it looked with those springs. Did like the RS wheels. I think the sills will look mint when painted. I enjoyed today's video immensely, I look forward to the next one. 👍👍👍👍👍
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
Thank you. The sills are now finished and look brand new (more on that in the next episode!)
@boilerhousegarage4 ай бұрын
I'm 90% sure that the black underseal strip on the sill was actually there on the standard car, even if it wasn't rust-proofed further, the factory underside black paint did overlap to be visible. This was actually quite common on 90s cars to make the sill height appear to match the bumpers each side.

The car looks mint! I am in the middle of restoring a 1996 Astra F sedan that I bought for 300 Euros. Did the suspension lately and it was pain in the arse to unscrew the steering rods due to the age and the fact that no one took care of it in the last 11 years.

That’s the joy of working on old cars I guess! What should be a quick job always takes longer than you think it will!

What a great project and it’s looking superb. Years ago I bought an MX5 on coil overs. It was super low and grounded out on speed humps . I naively assumed I could just wind it up to a sensible height but it had dual springs so winding up the height just compressed the first stage soft springs which meant the car rode everywhere on the secondary firm springs . It had no suspension compliance and was dangerous to drive. In the end I got some used standard spec Mazda struts and everything was good from then on! 😂
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
Some cars need coilovers to unlock their potential, others were right from the factory. I can see that an MX5 would be pretty dialled in as standard!

That’s cool! Funnily enough my first car was an XR3i cabriolet - it was amazing, unfortunately I simply couldn’t insure it so it had to go. I was GUTTED!

17inch alloys and lowering a inch suits the car. And I would just leave the mods to that. What’s the story with the mk3 Fiesta?
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
The MK3 is in line for a good freshen up. That’s a genuine 50 odd thousand mile car. It just needs a bit of help to make it the best it can be!
@waynelittle55835 ай бұрын
It makes perfect sense to put coilovers on it it will improve it's handling 10 fold and next owner can go back original if they really want and a nice stainless exhaust is perfect 👌
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
The coils made sense when I fitted them, however they are just a tad too low for the look this one needs to leave with so unfortunately they won’t be staying on the car (maybe that means I need to buy another MK5 now to modify properly!)

Great video, can you tell me the product used to prevent rust. Cheers
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
Thanks. Sure, I use ‘Hydrate 80’ by Bilt Hamber as a chemical rust converter. I’ve always had good results with it 👍

I would have left the coilovers on the front and just had standard rear springs. Would sit nice without looking obviously lowered.
@HForceClan5 ай бұрын
Crazy enough I actually prefer the stock rims. 17'' looks too big for the car for me personally, or maybe because of the low height. But an amazing job!
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
I think if the coilovers were staying and I dialled in the ride hide front & back / maybe spaced the rears 5-10mm, the 17’s would look absolutely correct however this one absolutely does need to go back to stock!

Front bumpers a few shades off and the wheels it came on do nothing for it, diamond cut rs2000 wheels would look good
@JohnnyGetsCash5 ай бұрын
The front bumper is very slightly off due to the nature of plastic parts being affected by UV light differently to metal parts over the years, however this is rectified in the next episode!
