Reminds me so much of working with my dad in the truck garage over the winter months back in the 70s and 80s. Really not much different type of work, wooden rack bodies, dump frames, basic truck work and repair. Dad had a similar disposition, using good pieces and parts saved from various other projects. Those long bolts tell a story about the power company, and that's the kind of thing that's part of all those parts and pieces. Whatever you build will be useful, dad would also say you can make changes once you get a better idea of what you can use it for. Treasure every day with your dad, these are days that are priceless. God Bless.

You guys are blessed to have such a wholesome life. I get farmings tough, Im talking the other side of life - family, hardwork, having purpose and each other and living in the countryside. I am truly jealous, thanks for sharing a bit of your life so I can somewhat in a small way experience what I always wanted No kidding man, thanks

I have an old Ford running gear rigged up just like your setup for hauling trees/limbs around the farm. I stretched the gear out longer and it works great. It’s like the pocketknife piece of equipment.

I built a big round bale wagon in similar fashion to what you are doing 40 years ago, and used threaded rod to fasten cross members to the long beams underneath. Wagon is still in use, no longer for hauling hay bales, but carrying the combind pickup head.

My Uncle told me once he always had something on the side, grain corn, hay bales for horse people, something, cause the milk check was what it was and it was never quite enough. My Gierok hat just left St Paul usps. Thanks fellas!

It's always something special doing these things with your father. Thank you for the video and can't wait to see more progress on the running board...God Bless

It gets mesmerizing watching him saw! I don’t know why but it makes you get into it! Lol I can’t wait to watch your videos on sawing as well. It’s fascinating to just watch!

Could weld up a square that slides over the ends of the cross beams with a square tubing upright welded to it. Drill a hole on 2 sides to bolt it to the beam so the are removable

Seen the running gear thought you were making a hay trailer. You and your brothers could stack hay behind your New Holland baler!

Those old running gears come in handy. I have been getting my lumber from the Amish saw mills. Pretty nice lumber for the price. I rebuilt a Kasten running gear some time ago. I kicked myself later as I could have bought a new 8 ton E-Z Trail for almost what I had in it. I later bought the E-Z Trail, what a nice running gear. You can go 60 MPH and that thing trails straight.

Great video! And you should have... 😂 An idea for side pockets: bore holes 3/4 of the depth of cross members, to the size of 1" pipe. Just stick whatever length of pipe in the holes that you need. 👍👍

Looks like 963 gear, one of Deere's best. Have several; no weave at highway speeds. You picked a good one. Was wondering, you chain all 4 corners; we only chain 2 on a diagonal. Was told so that the main king beams did not crack. Did you ever have any crack/break?
